Location excellent, a few minutes from the water, ferries, restaurants, shops.The room was spacious and charming. It included a very comfortable sofa. The Garden Room has its own entrance. Breakfast was hearty and delicious. This was a full English breakfast, bacon, sausage, fried tomato, egg, mushroom, toast, jam and to perfection, generous in size. Staff are amazing, welcoming and eager to ensure that their guests are a priority. Ally very helpful, always a big smile.

Only negative maybe for some, not for me, and I am a light sleeper, could be that the music from the pub although muffled seemed to extend till 11 pm perhaps a tad later. This would not prevent my staying there on another occasion, and I hope to do so.

From the moment we arrived (and mistakenly drove down the narrow dead end street😬) the staff were nothing short of kind and helpful. Arliya especially was the perfect hostess-she couldn’t do enough for us. The room was cosy, cute and comfortable and super clean! Yes, there is a fair bit of sound from the downstairs pub but this should be expected and a small trade off for being in a perfect central position. The breakfast was by far one of the best early start experiences we’ve had. Thank goodness we made The Fortescue our choice over highly priced other hotels in Salcombe… many uk hotel staff could do with learning from those who work here; they are welcoming, accommodating, beyond helpful and clearly understand how it feels to be a visitor. Thankyou all.

Nothing but make sure you consider parking… we chose the boat yard creak car park (by the wonderful Crab Shed) which makes a great walk into town so drop your cases first!

Breakfast included options were good. Staff very helpful and friendly. Room and bathroom much nicer/bigger than expected. Enjoyed the central location and considerate attitudes of staff members. From offering more tea etc for the room, to alerting us of family member having left their bag on a bar stool and getting it back to us safely. Really appreciated the kind atmosphere. Dinners were also delicious.

Only issue is the noise at night. They thoughtfully provide ear plugs which do help a bit, but if you need somewhere quite it's not for you.

We had an absolutely excellent stay at The Fortescue Inn! From start to finish, everything was spot on. The location couldn’t be better — right in the heart of Salcombe, making it the perfect place to enjoy a drink and wind down after a day exploring. It’s very much a lively pub, which they make very clear from the beginning, so naturally there’s some noise — but that’s exactly what you’d expect from the most popular spot in town! Also I keep reading here complaints about the breakfast no included, for us it was included full english or whatever you like from the menu. The breakfast was also delicious. The staff were truly amazing — so friendly, helpful, and always making sure we had everything we needed. The amenities were great, and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Whether you’re looking for a place to stay or just a classic Salcombe pub experience to end your night, this is definitely the spot. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back!

Price might be high but it is expected from the area.

The staff were really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us to make sure our stay was enjoyable, one of the owners Vas was really friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Tali and Yani were also really friendly and helpful, as was the manager who was on that day, everyone was but those were the names I remembered! The room was spacious and the bathroom was modern, everything was clean and comfortable.

Nothing, from the food, atmosphere and staff, it was all spectacular!

The staff were amazing! There was one girl who welcomed us and was also there at breakfast who made us feel welcome and very well taken care of. She was friendly and bubbly. The rooms were beautiful and clean. Breakfast was amazing!

The location was in the center of town which meant that we woke up at some point during the night because of a partying crowd.

Breakfast was excellent, as was the location. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and made up an extra bed in the room on request.

We were a bit disconcerted to find that there are no staff on site during the night, and not much in the way of instruction in the event of fire. This is relevant, as the fire alarm went off (false alarm) at 2.30am. If departing staff hadn't heard it and come back, we would have had no idea how to turn it off or who to call.

Amazing location on Salcombe high st. Room was really light and airy. Roomy clean bathroom with large walk in shower. Comfy bed. Lovely breakfast (good choice of cooked breakfast). Extremely friendly helpful staff.

We were told that it could be noisy but didn’t hear any noise. Could have done with a bowl of fruit at breakfast

Lovely warm friendly atmosphere. I ended up making quite a few good friends with the staff members especially Matty and Jemima who decided to take me for a little nighttime tour due to being on my own because my son was asleep!! Bearing in mind he was 22 and totally exhausted by the Sea air! Great night good laugh good people. Breakfast was perfect.

Really tried hard to stop the miserable emoji on this comment but for some reason it kept putting a sad one and it definitely deserved a really big happy one because that's how we both feel when we stayed!! I actually can't think of anything I didn't like about the place, I was a bit dubious about our room being next door to the kitchen, however once the door was shut, we could not hear a thing it was total silence and that peaceful we fell asleep straight away! The bottles of water in the room I was truly grateful for as we were so hot and the amazing selections of teasing coffees were as outstanding all very good quality which is very hard to find in a hotel nowadays.l. lovely bathroom just walking into the shower was such a great feeling instead of having to climb over things!

Ideal location and very genuine service with great menu. The staff were all very friendly, a proper pub with a varied menu including decent food that the chefs have taken effort and care to cook. Refreshing in the era of ‘wall to wall burgers’. I was disappointed that the lemon posset wasn’t available on the evening we stayed as it’s my favourite desert. One of the team, Jemima, went to trouble of arranging for the chefs to make some more in time for me to have one for breakfast the next day… not something I asked for, just something she thought I’d like… you can’t get better service than that! It was a damn fine lemon posset too, as was the rest of the breakfast. This is one of those pubs that exceeds your expectations and where you still find a bit of genuine character and friendly charm. 🙂
