Our room was big enough for our 2 hounds, and we had a sea view, an upgrade. The bed was huge, with lovely linens. A bit hard for me, a thick mattress topper would have helped. A decent shower, lots of hot water, nice quality towels and products. The spa facilities were good, sauna, jacuzzi and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Need to print details of how to turn on sauna, only managed because another guest knew about it. Sunbeds were provided outside so we could sunbathe when the weather was good. The bar area, tastefully updated, was in a lovely room with big windows to view the gardens and sea. The background music a preferred touch. There was a large lounge area also, but this never seemed to get used. The main restaurant was downstairs opening out onto the gardens. We preferred to eat upstairs in the bar. It is a very dog friendly hotel, dogs welcome in the bar. The food was exemplary- a small but different menu each night. I didn’t take breakfast so can’t comment.

Nothing really. It is gradually being updated with its new owners. I’m sure its star rating will rise if any of the recent upgrades are anything to go by. But we still had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The owners are from very impressive backgrounds in the business, and it shows.

We LOVED a great deal about this hotel. Especially having just paid over 400 pounds ($800) for a room in Salcombe, with sensational sea views (it was on the beach), but where everything else was underwhelming (room okay but not $800 special). Food same, and expensive. This lovely little hotel however was a fantastic surprise! We hadn't expected much initially from the images, but I wish we had stayed here for our two nights away. It is a lovely old building with an interesting history, run as a 3 star hotel. It has been taken over recently by a family, two of whom are a young couple, with considerable passion and hospitality experience from a couple of London's top hotels. They were delightful to deal with and couldn't do enough for their guests. Currently it is a 3 star hotel, but the couple are planning to revamp it room by room. They have already revamped/modernised the bar area that has been sensitively and tastefully done, and perfect relaxing place to enjoy a G+ T! If this is the standard to expect by the time they are done, it will be a top class 4 star hotel, so be quick and book a room whilst you can, as their rates are extremely reasonable currently and the hotel is comfortable and clean. We loved it, and will definitely stay again! We visit the UK annually. The hotel was sparklingly clean, the staff incredible - passionate, helpful, and on it! We had a sea view room, and though the hotel is set back a bit from the road, the views of the sea were lovely and the hotel grounds spacious. The bed (number one for me) was really comfortable and the room, though not huge, more than sufficient. You get personal service here guys, + dinner was delicious. The hotel also has an outdoor heated pool, and a smaller indoor pool and jacuzzi that we enjoyed! We loved staying here and can't wait to see what the family do with the place.

Nothing!

Truly outstanding! The room was great and very smartly presented, with a big, comfortable bed, with particularly soft, fluffy towels and nice toiletries in the bathroom. I knew there was a heated 10m pool available for guest use but the jacuzzi tub and sauna were an unexpected bonus! All the staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, making my overnight stay great. The menu is seen online looked promising but in reality was mouth-wateringly delicious! There was a very reasonably priced set menu with four options each for starters, mains and desserts. The food was genuinely excellent. Great room, great facilities, great staff, great food, great location, and at £68 or so for the room, great value. Can’t really ask for more!

Nothing - everything was excellent

Brilliant stay, the hotel was just perfect. Every single member of staff was so attentive and welcoming. They looked after us and spoilt our German Shepherd, he was a very lucky boy! The hotel has a real homely feel, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. The bedrooms were clean, nicely decorated. The location was great, short drive to the beach and a short walk to the village. We only stayed one night, so we plan to go back and explore the area more. Thank you for looking after us and showing our dog so much love.

Having to leave!

The pool and terrace was where we spent most of our stay. That was wonderful. We were allowed to use the pool before our room was ready which was great. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had breakfast included and I was provided with Gluten Free bread. The room was comfortable and clean.

It would have been nice to have a shower screen instead of a shower curtain. The door lock was a bit tricky and I had to ask for help. The price of a beer was £££.

Breakfast was superb but was only surpassed by an a la carte exemplary dinner. We decided to stay an extra night owing to the quality of the food and service. We were not disappointed. The outdoor pool exceeded our remit but a surprise, there was an indoor pool too. With a well stocked bar available and staff on hand to cater to your needs, this establishment felt five star. The location meant we had the opportunity to explore Dartmouth, Totnes, Torcross, Kingsbridge.

Having to wave goodbye to our new favourite get away. We will be back in a few weeks to soak up some more outdoor sun and ambience poolside.

Very nice clean room, beds very comfortable including the pull out bed. Very spacious rooms for a small family.Indoor pool facilities were great for the family. Bar area is very modern.

You can see the new management have been working hard on improving the Stoke Lodge hotel. There is still a lot of investment needed in the hotel, from replacing old hall way carpets, ceiling repairs etc. but don’t be put off because this is a really nice hotel in a great location and I’m sure the new management will turn this hotel into a five star establishment.

The room was clean and tidy The bed was comfy. Had evening meal, but no breakfast, which was very good. Dressing table area was large so very suitable to work from. The lady on duty the evening I was there was very helpful and friendly. The swimming pool was clean and a lovely facility to be able to use. Would use again if in the area.

Very slight niggle - chair to dressing table was a bit low to work from, comfortable to sit in though!

We loved our stay at Stoke Lodge. The location was great, just a mile walk down to Blackpool Sands along the South Coast path. Everyone at the hotel was so friendly and helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Also recommend the local pub The Green Dragon, great food and friendly atmosphere.

The outdoor pool was being cleaned, so we weren't able to use it.
