We booked based on the reviews and were not disappointed. Room was excellent, comfortable bed and seating area to relax. En-suite was spotless and well equipped with modern facilities. Location of the property was perfect just a stroll from the harbour and all the local restaurants. Private secure parking. Excellent breakfast, a great choice of continental with fruit pastries etc. with cooked options to order made to perfection. In addition, the dining room was spacious and with lovely views of the bay. Great hosting from Peter with plenty of great advice and recommendations on things to do and see during our stay. A bonus was the home made cakes baked daily by Helen which were delicious.

In all honesty there wasn’t anything we didn’t like about the property.

Peter and Helen were extremely friendly and helpful hosts. The hotel is decorated with lots of antique furniture with very attractive and sometimes unusual results. The bedroom was well equipped and everything worked well. Breakfast was excellent with a very good range of cereals, fruit and some unusual and attractive extras, as well as a very good selection of cooked options and excellent homemade marmalade. The car park is a very good size with well sized, well marked out spaces.

After staying in numerous hotels over the years, we can honestly say that the breakfast offered the most variety, especially homemade muesli, jams and ham, we have ever seen for a B & B hotel. A very nice touch was the homemade cake for the guests. Peter and Helen are fantastic hosts with the help of lovely happy Paul! Location was great. Lovely views. Walking distance to town. Room was perfect, an excellent idea was a small fridge containing fresh milk and bottled water.

Location, cleanliness, comfort, friendliness of Peter & Helen - nothing was too much trouble for them. Breakfast was so lovely, everything fresh and lots of homemade items which were excellent, including Helen’s delicious cakes which we enjoyed in the lovely garden. Peter & Helen are excellent hosts and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. We would highly recommend a visit to The Somerville.

It is a fantastic building with plentiful parking, a real bonus. Peter was an excellent host and made me feel welcome. The room was fantastic, and the bonus is the tremendous lemon drizzle cake Helen makes daily to welcome guests. Helen, get yourself on Bake Off. Fantastic locally sourced breakfast, both hot and cold selection, best I've had in a while, and I visit a lot of hotels/B&B's. I will 100% be back if I'm back in the area. Thanks - Rob from Glasgow

A great mixture of quirkiness & luxury, with some fun touches. Very friendly hosts with random amusing anecdotes thrown in! Extremely comfortable bed & lovely shower. Fabulous breakfast of your choice, cooked exactly how you want it, as well as a huge choice of fresh, healthy options. Yummy homemade lemon curd; yummy orange & plum compote. Very pretty, private garden; quiet location, only 15 minute walk to the seafront. Plenty of free parking with CCTV.

This place is exceptional, above & beyond our expectations. Peter & Helen were the most delightful hosts . Breakfast was the best we’ve ever had & nothing to much trouble. Always there for local knowledge & best places to go . We have been to Torquay several times& when we go back we will be booking at this great find .

Nothing to dislike !

The Somerville is a lovely hotel. We came as a party of 3 couples and each couple had an excellent room which had its own character. Everyone was very happy. The somerville has several things going for it which sets it apart. First is the owners , Peter and Helen - from the get-go they make sure you are welcomed , relaxed and helps by providing local knowledge of what and where to go. Second - The location is just a short walk from the harbour but has ample parking. Third - The Decor and Rooms -it is furnished with items made by local artisans . As mentioned, every room has it's own unique character. The rooms are exactly as you would expect from a top flight B&B : clean, tidy, well thought out, excellent tea and coffee facilities and good quality toiletries. Fourth - The Breakfast . Its excellent , made with local produce and cooked to perfection.

Absolutely loved staying here even if it was for only 1 night. Peter was an exceptional host,nothing to much bother,very helpful,great conversationalist,all round legend. Thank you for making our stay welcoming. Great B & B ,very clean,good room,great comfy bed and a fantastic breakfast. Would definitely be going back.

The location was convenient for town centre and near bus stop. There was free parking. The decor was homely and inviting and there was a lovely, well tended garden. Very attentive host who knew everything about the local area and a fabulous breakfast spread with exceptional choice and great quality.
