Lovely only thing that was on downside was breakfast advertised at £15 I got charged £18 and it really wasn't worth it at all overcooked bacon and sausage snotty eggs and pastures a bit stale but a good selection and fruit and cereal available

We've been coming here for 20 years. It has gone downhill a bit but still great.

Undercooked bacon and sausages at breakfast and no fried eggs. Inedible fried bread harder than pork scratchings. Taking six attempts to get the car park barrier to let you out is annoying.

Very nice place to stay, central location and great view. Great place for meetings and a beautiful venue for events.

Roomservice did not work. As for the room it would have been better with enclosed terrasses on the garden level floor where people with dogs stay. We travelled with a dog and so did the people either side of our room. The communal terrasse with privacy screens meant the odd dog on an unplanned visit and occasionally people walking past the patio doors (only window), which could easily be prevented. Not a major issue, just room for improvement.

The hotel is beautiful and has amazing views of the bay. It is well situated for the harbour, bars and restaurants. There were plenty of parking spaces. The drinks and snacks were reasonably priced. The room was larger than expected.

We were lucky to have hot weather during our stay. There was no fan or air conditioning in the room so we had to leave the windows open. Our room faced the car park and it got very noisy early in the morning with deliveries. There was no fridge in the room which would have been very useful. biscuits with the tea and coffee would have been nice. They were a bit slow to replenish some of the hot breakfast items. Some people might find the hill up to the hotel a bit of a struggle but to be expected with the cliff top position and worth it for the views. Some evening entertainment would be a bonus and would have encouraged us to spend more time in the bar.

The room was excellent , large and clean. The breakfast was very good with an excellent choice of food. Some of the staff in particular the bar staff were unhelpful and quite rude which was disappointing. The hotel itself is beautiful with stunning views.

A view of the sea without anything other than gardens in between (many hotels have a road in the way). Good amount of parking avoiding stress, choice of open air or under cover (though different charges). Fabulous history, marble, great views. Staff are lovely. Now joined the “skip a clean” so no worries about when they want to clean, you can still replenish supplies of water tea etc. from reception plus you get £5 credit per day towards food & drink, with the bar having a good choice of food (snacks & meals) & drink. Room has very comfy bed, good bathroom and our room had a dressing area with two wardrobes, plenty of space! Excellent breakfast, though occasionally had to wait for items to be replenished. The pool area is good, and I hear the spa is also great.

Stopped supplying biscuits! Shame. The pillows were not as good as previously. It’s a bath & shower over with curtain, I prefer a walk in shower but there is a good handrail plus shower mat for safety. No table on the balcony to use with the two chairs. Very out dated curtains in the corridors!

We booked a deluxe double room with sea view. It did not disappoint. Large room. Large bed. Plenty of storage. Lovely bath and shower. Solid walls so no noise from other rooms. Balcony with chairs were a bonus, although outside paintwork was shabby. Gardens were lovely, but only explored them once as the steps were closed for painting. It was lovely to be able to get food at any time in the sun lounge. Breakfast was very generous, but busy. Only there for three days so didn't use the car in that time. Spacious public rooms.

Misread my booking details and thought breakfast was included, also didn't expect to pay for car parking, but it was worth the extra. None of the staff appeared to have been there very long, or were experienced, but they tried their best to be efficient.

The petite lady who greeted us every morning For breakfast, on the very first morning, as she was talking us through where the different foods where, thought it was ok to slowly stare me and my partner up and down, from our shoes to our heads, one at a time, whilst standing a foot away from us. It was so blatant. We felt very uncomfortable around her and have never experienced this kind of rudeness in any hotels in our years of travelling. I don’t like to single anybody out, but when we’ve paid a lot of money to stay somewhere rudeness from staff for no reason, is unacceptable. This put a little taint on our trip and unfortunately we won’t be returning to this beautiful hotel.

You have to ignore the appallingly ugly 1960s makeover of the exterior, and the unwelcoming approach road that makes you think you've accidentally turned into the loading bay of an out-of-town supermarket - because inside, the Imperial is magnificent! From the stained-glass dome in the lobby to the palatial lounge, the hotel is a fine example of Victorian splendour. The decor everywhere is beautifully maintained, and the views across Torbay from the bar and dining room are superb. Our room was spacious and comfortable - for some reason many hotel rooms only have one comfortable chair between two guests, but here the room was well furnished. Although not booked as a room with a sea view, we were in fact on a corner of the building so had an excellent view from the window on the end wall. The staff without exception were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The choice at breakfast was excellent. I was initially going to mark breakfast down because no Marmite seemed to be available (my personal measure of a good hotel!), but on asking for it Marmite was duly supplied. We did not try the spa or the swimming pool. Being just out of season the pool was closed for repairs, and in any case it was too cold to swim at this time of year. The location on the headland is fantastic, with the aforementioned views over the bay, and only 10 minutes walk to the harbour and the town. (The walk back up the hill after a night in the town could be a bit taxing for the less mobile, however.)

Dinner in the restaurant in the evening was good, but over-priced for what we had. The food served in the lounge bar might have been better value, but lacked the atmosphere of the dining room for a special occasion. £10 a night to park in the car-park seemed a bit stiff on top of what we paid for the room. It was a bit disappointing we couldn't use the balcony of our room. The TV reception seemed very poor - we couldn't get ITV or Channel 5.

we had a balcony room looking out over the bay. it was a standard room but large enough for us. the furnishings are shabby and perhaps the hotel could do with some care but the shabbiness does add to the style. It has been used in various Agatha Christie films and books and that was our reason for staying here. The views from the room and the conservatory where meals can be taken were wonderful. The young recestaff were very welcoming and polite.

For some reason our cold tap gave out warm water but we were given bottled water to drink so that was fine. we didn't eat at the main restaurant but perfect should have as the lounge menu offered mostly small portions and. on one occasion, inedible food(the £18 pound burger). However I did have a really nice afternoon tea there.
