The property’s location was exceptional. The views were stunning. The room was amazing and had a balcony that made the most of the views. There was a lot of attention to detail in the room with the hosts little decor touches as well as details on the map to help you find your way around. Ann and Brendan were lovely hosts. Very helpful and friendly. They made the stay really enjoyable. Breakfast was superb with a lot of choice to satisfy all tastes. I will be recommending this property to friends and family and would definitely stay again.

The only negative (and this didn’t in any way impact the stay) was the plumbing. The taps in the sink made a loud noise and the cold tap in the shower came loose.

What a beautiful place to stay. ! Ann and Brendan made us so welcome after a long arduous journey. Parked car close by and left it there for three days. Fabulous room, glorious sun terrace where we had delicious continental breakfast one morning surrounded by a lovely garden and great views. Bathroom spacious with every attention to detail to ensure an enjoyable stay. Dining room breakfast equally lovely( have learnt a new way to cook poached eggs !!).

Parking for some might find it difficult? But we walked down to the town every day and took a local bus back up the hill in the afternoon/ evening- so convenient- drops you off at the top of the road the. A short walk downhill to the front door.

Despite using booking.com many times before and had some great stays away, I have never taken the effort to leave a review before. However I feel with our experience of this stay it was well deserved. On arrival we were greeted by the owners and lad to the decking overlooking Dartmouth rooftops and Bay and given an overview of Dartmouth and history along with a pot of tea (lovely touch). Our room was coat and very high ended regards fittings etc..nothing was a problem and the hosts were exceptionally accommodating. The room had a balcony with the same view as mentioned before and is stunning. The breakfast was also a highlight and was freshly cooked to order and again sat out on the decking...amazing. We always like to try new places and experiences however I would return back here. I must also re emphasise how warming the the goats were...and finally great value as we only paid £135/ night which I thought was very very good value for money.

Going home

The Compass Rose is a delightful place to stay in Dartmouth. The view of Dartmouth from the balcony was beautiful. The room was well appointed, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Brendan's breakfasts were delicious! Despite the hilly location Dartmouth is only about a ten minute stroll from the Compass Rose. The tiled steps leading into town make the return journey very manageable even for a couple of pensioners. There are a number of excellent restaurants in Dartmouth. Ann kindly provided us with a list of their favourites prior to our arrival so that we could pre-book. We tried both Andrea and The Sea Horse and thoroughly enjoyed both.

It is difficult to offer any opportunities for improvement as everything about our stay was so good. The only comment I could offer is that parking is a little tight, especially if you have a large car and are not a competent parker. However, we managed to park our Landrover Discovery without any issues. So this is not a major concern.

The room was gorgeous, very clean and well kept, the bed was huge! along with a big bathroom, everything was spotless. Ann and her husband were extremely helpful with recommendations for where to go and eat in Dartmouth. The breakfast was probably our favourite part, as the one morning we had the continental breakfast in our room overlooking the river Dart with the sun shining and it was delicious, the following morning we had the full English in their breakfast room which did not disappoint! I would highly recommend staying at compass rose, as we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay here and were made to feel very welcome.

Everything was delicious and accommodation very clean and comfortable.The view was lovely.Being a little less agile these days ourselves the accommodation area needed a bit of negotiation as there was a narrow approach road and lots of steps to go into town when walking. Very quaint and olde world,but well worth doing if your fit enough.We were OAPs and managed it the once or twice,but chickened out the second time on the return and caught the bus back.We loved hearing and seeing the steam train over the far side of the water.

Only really the approach road the very nasty bend to take us down to the accommodation.Driving a car to the end of the road was so very narrow and makes turning difficult as too was getting into the parking place on the property.

Reception by hosts. The property, the furnishings, the facilities and the views. The breakfast. Above all, the attention, care and support provided by the hosts.

Nothing. All excellent.

A roomy comfortable bed. The views were really good, reminding us as they did of our previous visits to Dartmouth in our sailing days, I walk with the aid of two walking sticks, and although the walk into town was difficult... We could ,of course have called a taxi! I chose to do so (walk) on every day of our stay, despite the hardship! breakfast was very good, with lots of choice. Anne's continental breakfast was superb, with lots of fruit, and the toast! in a basket, with hot stones placed under the cloth wrapping, keeping it wonderfully warm.Not quite so steep roads, for my poor legs, would have been good, but i don't think Anne and Brendon could do a lot about that! My friends have two names for me, Pete the boat, for obvious reasons, and dream weaver, for my long ocean voyages in past days,,Compass Rose is certainly a dream destination!

A much longer stay would have been a lot better! Maybe in the not too distant future. The truth is, there is so little not to like!

We had a fabulous room with a balcony which we could sit out on, affording us the most wonderful panoramic views of both the river and the hills as well! We loved the comfortable room, the walk-in shower and so beautifully decorated throughout. Our breakfast was served with open doors overlooking the same wonderful view as in our room. Our hosts, Ann and Brendan were so hospitable and we loved hearing their stories and also the recommendations they also gave, especially the bus that drove up the hill to near their location at the end of an evening! We would definitely recommend staying here!

Delightful hosts. Excellent communications, friendly and informative. Wonderful room, clean, bright, very good quality throughout and then there's the amazing view!! Very comfy bed with high quality bedding. Breakfast was really excellent with plenty of choice of hot food. It was served on the balcony so we could sit out and enjoy the view. We've already booked for next year but instead of 2 nights for a whole week. Loved it here.
