We love The George - great food and really nice proper pub. My mother (who is 90 and extremely fussy!) pronounced the breakfast as the best she's ever had out and about! Good choice at dinner too - as a fish eater I'm always grateful for anyone not relying on the ubiquitous salmon as the fish dish and the sea bream was very good. It was 'steak night' and my partner's sirloin with sides and a glass of wine was both delicious and excellent value.
although the bedroom is a very pleasant environment, the bed is on the small side and a little uncomfortable - but that's being very 'picky'

Staff were lovely, helpful and welcoming. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious, as was the included breakfast. The room was actually a suite, which I hadn't expected. It was nicely decorated with vintage cottage style furniture and fittings, the kitchen had all I needed, and the lounge area had a wonderfully peaceful view over rooftops to the distant hills. I would like to have stayed longer.
Not having a car meant a long-ish walk up a gradual hill to get to the place from the village below (10-14 minutes or so), but the relaxing bar and cold cider afterwards made up for it.

Full of character property, loved the nooks & crannies. Our room was a suite which was lovely, had everything we needed and more. Super cosy and made you want to stay there. The stuff was lovely and super helpful. Location is great as you are walking distance to town yet a bit out so you don’t get all the tourists. Food was amazing! We massively regretted not having dinner there (we had booked a high tea in town). Only had chips which were SO good, and breakfast this morning was awesome … coffee was excellent!!
Can’t think of anything

The staff were all very friendly. Having a separate lounge/kitchen was very useful as we were staying several days and could leave the bedroom uncluttered with coats, bags, etc. The food and service was excellent - lovely breakfasts and excellent dinners. The George is in a quiet area about 15 minutes walk from the town centre. We found it a great base for exploring the surrounding area by car.

Very friendly welcome from the staff, car parking right outside, a short walk into town, excellent breakfast was included. We also had dinner there which was delicious. We had a lovely private space in the Rosemary suite on top floor including bedroom, en-suite bathroom and a living room with sofa, tv and kitchen facilities
Room was initially very hot, but we managed to cool it down with the windows open - note there is a switch for the towel rail in the living room area (we stayed in the Rosemary suite) so we turned it off after asking the staff about it. Stairs are quite steep and some are small, be careful on the way up & down!

What a lovely place! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The people and the service are amazing, 10+ out of 10. Not only did they help get our luggage up the stairs, they found umbrellas for us to use on our outings and were there at every turn for anything we might need. The bar staff are super friendly and the cook was amazing. Breakfast is the best I've had, and there were several menu items to choose from. We stayed in the small apartment and really enjoyed having a separate area to watch TV and relax. All in all, we loved our stay here. We would like to return again some day and spend more time with these wonderful people. They truly are the best! ❤️
I would have given 5* all around, but the shower is tiny and my husband is not. The bathroom has been newly renovated, and there is so much space that it definitely warrants a larger shower. It should be mentioned that there are some really steep stairs. A few little extras in the kitchenette, like paper towels and a sponge, would have been nice.....I'm sure all I needed to do was ask. We actually tried to extend for another night, and although the room wasn't booked, for some reason they couldn't accommodate us. 😞

Initially we were greeted outside of normal hours by Courtney, who welcomed us to the George and took time to show us around the facility and pass on a little of the history of the building. The whole layout is a little quirky, but all the more for it, which adds to the authentic feel of the place. Martin and Amber own the property and are exceptional hosts heading up a team of very friendly staff. Adam is the head chef and comes in for special mention, his food is excellent and wonderfully presented. Our room was lovely, bed extremely comfy and we had a separate and spacious sitting area with basic kitchen area. A great bonus. Overall, we stayed at the George for 5 nights and loved the whole experience and commend Martin and Amber for their part in creating a wonderful welcoming and memorable experience. Thank you.

Lovely country village pub with rooms in a quiet road. Perfect for an overnight stop. We enjoyed it. Nice leather armchairs in the bar and great ambience. We enjoyed our dinner and also had a lovely brekkie.
Not really any complaints. The only small thing - they don't supply any non-dairy milk for tea/coffee at breakfast. Fortunately I messaged to ask Amber before arriving as I can't drink dairy, so brought an alternative with me. I was a bit surprised in this day and age, but it was only one night, so not a problem.

We loved the location of the property. The room was beautiful with everything we needed and spotlessly clean
We weren’t told that it was closed on a Sunday. We went out for a walk and everywhere was locked up when we got back. There was no warning of this on booking or arrival. All our dog food was locked in the kitchen so we had to go to the shop and buy more. We walked back to the pub for a drink after being by the river to find it closed. All this would have been fine if we had known

Lovely Room with a floor above with two comfortable settees and a table which we could use as a television room. The room also had a very handy kitchen area with a full sized fridge. The staff were very friendly and helpful at all times of day and the food was good. The parking was very useful and just a short walk from the centre. We will certainly use the George if possible if we make another trip.
I have recently had ankle surgery and found the stairs quite difficult as they are quite steep.
