Our stay at Poppies Hotel in Callander was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were charmed by the historic character of the building—elegant, timeless, and lovingly maintained. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between classic Scottish charm and modern comfort. Our room was beautifully appointed with thoughtful details, tasteful decor, and a warmth that made us feel instantly at home. It was clear that great care had been taken to ensure every element contributed to a restful and memorable experience. Breakfast the following morning was a true highlight—exquisitely prepared with high-quality ingredients and presented on a heated plate with care. Whether you prefer a hearty Scottish breakfast or something lighter, there’s something to satisfy every palate. But what truly elevates Poppies Hotel are the wonderful hosts - Susan and John, together with their team. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, they all made us feel like valued guests from start to finish. Their passion for hospitality shines through in every interaction. If you're visiting Callander, Poppies Hotel is a gem not to be missed.

Nothing at all

The owners were very friendly and helpful, gave us suggestions for dinner. The room was lovely, and we had a large bay window with a beautiful view. The bed was comfortable, and there were plenty of pillows. Good selection of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. The information folder in the room was very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast, plenty of choice. Hot food selection had to be ordered the evening before. However, there was also a great selection of breads, cereals, yogurt fruit, etc. Plenty of parking and the owner kindly let us park after we checked out as we wanted to have a look around Callander.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. The room was spacious, warm, clean and very well appointed with high quality soft furnishings. The breakfast was delicious with super service and quality food. Location was just right being only a short walk from a choice of pubs and restaurants in Callander with ample parking.

The owners are continuously updating the property and there are always things you would like as a guest. For us, a shelf in the lovely walk in shower would have been useful. Mixer taps would save water. Door furniture could do with updating, but these are just observations not dislikes.

The location was perfect in walking distance to local restaurants. The breakfasts were amazing, really good quality ingredients, and the poached eggs were perfect. The beds were very comfortable. We would definitely recommend this property and would go back.

Just one very small thing the tea tray in your room only had one pack of biscuits, would have preferred a pack each. Albeit there were 2 biscuits in each pack one each I still think there should be a pack each!

Very warm welcome and friendly caring service throughout our stay. Great selection of whisky at the bar. Breakfast delicious and varied, with Scottish and vegetarian / vegan options. Bed very comfortable and our room was spacious with a seating area and dressing gowns which made for a cozy evening. Water and biscuits provided. Powerful shower. Just everything you would want and more for a comfortable weekend.

Can't fault anything, we hope to come back one day.

This is a first class establishment. The whole hotel is immaculate and tastefully decorated. Our room was excellent with a good layout, comfortable beds and a great en suite where everything worked. We had a warm greeting from the owners on arrival. Our breakfast was also well presented and of good quality. We have stayed here before and would not hesitate in recommending to others. We intend to stay again when next in this area

There is really nothing to fault this excellent small hotel.

John was so welcoming and accommodating. Giving us the room downstairs was really appreciated. The breakfast was lovely. The rooms are lovely. Really loved the front lawn and the parking area. The public rooms in the hotel are delightful.

The only thing I didn't like was that I was only staying one night. We wished we would have booked more nights and done spoke trips.

Very comfortable and nicely furnished room (no 6). Good location only a few minutes walk from the centre of Callander. Good off-road car parking in front of the property and safe for motorcycles if touring. Very nice bar area with a huge choice of whisky as well as other drinks. Very good breakfast in a nice dining area and great service from the owners. Overall an excellent B&B which we would highly recommend and we would definitely return if in the Callander area.

There were no issues.

The room was beautifully appointed, with little extras like the butterscotch cookies, and a chocolate on the pillow. John and Susan were excellent hosts and couldn’t have been kinder or more accommodating - they sorted me out a taxi to get to Dunblane station and were very forgiving when I slept in the first day and missed my breakfast slot!

There was nothing to dislike!

Our welcome from Susan made us feel like we had arrived home. The room was fresh and spacious with a very comfy bed. They have a really beautiful bar downstairs where it would be lovely to relax in after a wet day hiking. You order your breakfast from a wide range the night before and it’s lovely to have everything brought to your table in the morning. There was a feeling of calm competence in this hotel and we would definitely return.

Shower was a bit small.
