The Bat and Ball is perfectly located on Old Dover Road, which means we could walk for 10 minutes and arrive at the city walls of Canterbury, down under the subway, and we were there. Canterbury is a must-visit town, yes, it has a cathedral, which makes it a "city", but it feels like a town. We walked for hours exploring the old and modern shops, buildings and cobbled lanes. The cathedral costs £18.00 to enter and is stunning, then a pint in the Shakespeare, perhaps to soak up the atmosphere. Breakfast is amazing with a huge bowl of fresh strawberries and yoghurt, tea, coffee and pain au chocolat, yummy!

The Bat and Ball is literally on Old Dover Road, so if you are a light sleeper, the traffic could prove to be a problem. The room supplies a fan to try to keep you cool as the window needs to be closed because of the traffic noise.

The Bat and Ball B&B was clean, well presented and tastefully decorated. Our room was warm and a good size, bed was comfy. Room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Easy-peasy check-in and communication from the hotel was excellent. Continental breakfast was plentiful and of a very good standard including fresh pastries, and berries. Staff member at breakfast was friendly and attentive and made sure breakfast items were topped up. Location is a good 20 minute walk from the main high street so we got a taxi to take us into town in the evening (£10). This didn't put us off as the accommodation was so good (and you'd pay more for town centre anyway!). We'd definitely stay here again.

Efficient check in process, helpful staff, rooms newly finished and immaculately clean. Set up on top floor was perfect for our family of 5 - two rooms on their own landing and one slept up to 4 people. Beds comfortable and the property was quiet even though there were guests downstairs. Continental breakfast was fine but finished at 9am which was a bit early on a weekend and considering checkout is 10. That would be my only suggestion to improve. We would definitely book again.

Breakfast finished too early

Staff were very accommodating allowing us to check in early as we had arrived early. Instructions for gaining entry and collection of the key fobs very clear and easy to follow.

The curtains in the room were very thick and good quality however they did not close due to not having a full rail and as the windows are old sash windows there was a draft coming through which could have been prevented with the curtains as the blinds didn't.

All good. Breakfast was continental, simple but good quality and healthy. Enough selection for us. Bedroom was comfy. Bed linen was lovely. Shower was best we’d ever had in a hotel. Really good, modern, clean, splash-smart etc.

Stairs are narrow and steep. Not a problem for us but great care needs to be taken with cases. It’s a bit of a walk into town, but we quite like that.

Had a lovely stay, site was close to the main attractions. Explored the cathedral and the xmas markets. The hotel had all the essentials and provided good breakfast. Staff was lovely!

The hotel is right on the main road so we could hear traffic during our stay, not the hotel’s fault but could be something to consider if you want a quiet stay.

We were travelling through Canterbury on our way to the Eurotunnel, having a really early start the next day the Bat and Ball staff left us some pastries and orange juice to start our day. The bed and rooms were super cosy and warm, this is the second time we have been back to this place (and we will definitely go again).

This was a great little find. We had booked at the last minute as we wanted to see the Christmas markets. This was in a great location. The room was beautiful and the staff very friendly. Also breakfast was delicious. What a great find. I highly recommend and if I am in the area again, will definitely book again.

Lovely clean and well-appointed room. Easy check in with key code. Hassle free. Staff low key but accessible if needed. Nice toiletries including conditioner. Great location, slightly outside town centre with convenience store opposite. Overall, it was a lovely stay.

Slight noise from traffic on main road
