The location is excellent if travelling by train. There is easy access to the heart of the city centre and anyone who fancies visiting the bars and clubs on Botchergate. Staff (especially those on reception) are extremely helpful and go the extra mile to assist. The room is value for money and reflects the classification of the hotel. Beds are comfortable. Complementary drink tokens to be used at the bar in the hotel were a bonus, whilst the breakfast was value for money with children eating for free.

Some of the facilities, such as toilets in public areas are a little tired. If sleeping on the side of the hotel nearest to Carlisle Railway Station, you are likely to hear PA announcements in the station until late in the evening.

The hotel staff was very nice, the hotel a bit older but decent and clean. The beds were very comfy. Breakfast was English and very good.

Sadly our room was very stuffy and hot and you could only slightly open the window. It was also extremely loud from the outside. We stayed on a Saturday so the bars and clubs were open and drunken people would shout and scream in front of the hotel basically until 5 AM as the parking lot was apparently just as a meeting place. Closing the window did not to anything as it was quite old. Also it was so hot in the room you would not want that. The noise is not the hotel’s fault of course, sleeping was still very hard.

Delicious English/Irish cooked breakfast, also sireals available. Fruit juice, toast, tea/coffee included in breakfast. Right next to Carlisle train station, 5 minute walk to Carlisle Castle and a 10 minute to the city's bus station. Hotel has bar. Friendly staff. Check-in was quick and simple. Phone in room to call reception. TV on wall. Some plug sockets in room. Small fan in room.

The location was great, right next to the railway station and close to restaurants, bars, shops etc. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Also there was a fan, a heater, an ironing board and iron in the room. Overall happy with the accommodation.

The shower was over the bath which is fine but it could have done with a handle fitting to help when climbing in and out as the sides of the bath were quite high. The only other thing was the prices in the bar were quite expensive, i expected the prices to be higher, as they usually are in hotels but these were particularly high 🤔

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I think it is fair to say Best Western has not got the best reputation for some of its hotels. I chose this one because of its close proximity to train station (it couldn’t be any closer!) A few steps after exiting the station and we were inside the hotel - especially welcoming as upon our arrival the heavens opened and within seconds we were in the dry. First impressions were excellent - clean, bright reception area and served by a friendly, competent receptionist.The day only got better. We had booked 2 suites which were spacious and clean. Yes, I know the bathrooms are outdated but they add to the charm. I think I am right in saying this hotel was built for Queen Victoria - have a look at the ornate ceilings as you have breakfast (which was plentiful). I am sure QV would have felt quite at home in this rather special place. If you like modern this may not suit but if you appreciate ‘old fashioned’ and don’t want to walk far if arriving by train this ticks all the boxes.

I could not fault anything - and I usually can so a big thank you to all the team at this hotel who ensured we had a first class stay. Staff were particularly good - we felt as though they actually cared whether we were happy or not.

The hotel decor was beautiful and clean. The staff were so friendly and very professional. The hotel was also in a prime location and very handy to all the bars and restaurants. The bed was amazing and very very comfortable. The hotel room was lovely with really nice facilities like a kettle and tea and coffee. The bathroom had soaps and shower gels. Excellent stay and would highly recommend this hotel. A special shout out to the bar staff and Barry who allowed us to have our drinks without rushing us out the door and even offered us another drink before shutting the bar for the night considering it was well past shutting time. We had a great stay and definitely would return and recommend it to family and friends.

Extremely comfy bed and great breakfast. Location superb - right next to the station. Conference set up was great - they happily made changes we requested and were very efficient.

It would have been nice, when organising the conference in advance, to have been able to speak to someone actually on site who knew the facilities well and would be the liaison on the day. Instead I was dealing with someone in Glasgow who had to check every question so could never tell me straight away. The set up on the day would have been smoother too as they would have known my precise requirements.

The location of this budget hotel couldn't be any better for access to Carlisle town centre when arriving by train- or by car, as the hotel has a small car park for residents use at a fair overnight rate. The hotel is a refurbished older property and is not without some well used some charm. Breakfast was great, staff were helpful and to the point. I was very happy with my stay at the price paid. For those visiting the racecourse the taxi rank is just outside the hotel and £9 each way.

The bathroom tiles were a bit shabby. Ididnt let this bother me for the 30 mins I spent in there during my stay.

The staff, particularly on reception were really warm and helpful, and just made me feel very welcome. There was plenty of choice for breakfast. The lift to the bedrooms was fast and efficient. The sofa in the room made it more homely. Desk with spotlight on useful as I had to work. Plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits left in room. About 30 paces from the train station which was perfect for me. Heated towel rail with obvious switch to turn it on and off. Bedroom was warm.

The room was a little tired (although netter than I expected for the price paid). As I was there in an Amber storm warning it was very windy. The old sash window in the bathroom shook so much that loads of old putty went over the bathroom floor and I was a bit worried about using the bathroom in case the glass blew out. The blind was blowing in the breeze even though the window was shut. So the bathroom was cold and draughty. The receptionist did say the next morning she would put maintenence onto fixing the putty.

For an old establishment, the whole building had an air of freshness and cleanliness to it. When asked, the staff did say it had had a paint makeover which did work. The room was fine and the bed very comfy. Although it was a cold weekend, the room temperature was nice. The bathroom was a bit dated but the shower worked well and the place was clean. Staff were friendly and helpful and we were told we had left something in the room on a few minutes after we had left so hadn’t travelled too far to enable us to return. The idea of a drink in lieu of laundry change was a novel idea which we enjoyed.

For weekend parking we found out it was cheaper to pay the £5 per 24 hours in the station car park rather than the £12 charged by the hotel. There was a lot of empty fast food cartons on or around the entrance later at night as we returned. It appears that people congregate around the entrance to eat their takeaways whilst not actually entering the hotel.
