August 2025
Very quiet and dark location in the countryside, comfy rooms, and three electric car charge points in front of the building (£0.60 per kWh, paid via a web app where you just enter your card details and plug in). The breakfast was very tasty and there was lots of choice. The one staff member we dealt with was very friendly and welcoming (she was the only staff member we met during our stay as we arrived at 10pm and left at 10am!). The room had everything we needed and looked recently renovated. The shower was a little weak but it was nice and hot.
Outside the window of our room (number 8) was an extractor fan flue, presumably for the kitchen (room 9 was on the other side of the same flue), and the fan came on at 0630 which woke us up. It’s a shame as the room was absolutely silent otherwise. The breakfast has no buffet, so everything has to be ordered (except coffee, tea and juice), and our first order took half an hour to arrive, even though it wasn’t that busy. There appeared to be only one member of staff serving the breakfast, but maybe this was because it was a weekday morning. The food was absolutely worth it when it arrived though!

Very pleasant, professional, and polite staff, courteous and efficient while also friendly and laid-back. They were very happy to help with all requests. Clean room with pleasant and quality furnishings, comfortable chairs and bed, lovely clean bathroom. Good range of books in the lounge areas. Breakfast was beautiful and quality food, loved the drinks from the coffee machine, tasty cooked breakfast and porridge. Plenty of parking and ease of access into the hotel. Very quick check-in process. Good bar knowledge by staff who could recommend nice local ales from nearby breweries.
Lighting in the room was a bit dull. There was no bathtub in our room (we stayed before and had a lovely bath in the bathroom - we were looking forward to this :( The prices at the bar were a bit steep, I was surprised to pay £14 for two drinks. The kitchen closed at 8.30pm so fortunately we had already eaten, but we thought that it might be open until 9pm.

Very comfortable beds and an excellent breakfast. Soft towels. Radiator that we could control easily and a window that opened for fresh air during the night The young lady who worked as a waitress and receptionist very attentive and polite
Water pressure of shower very poor in the morning. No dressing table or anywhere to put toiletries. Toilet roll had to be placed on the floor because the roll not easily accessible. We didn't want to dine at the hotel but had to travel several Miles to find a local shop for snacks. So best to bring snacks with you.

We had a lovely time and enjoyed a high quality dinner. Staff were very friendly and a relaxed atmosphere all round. Breakfast was served quickly and check out was easy. Overall a very nice time had and will happily go back and recommend.
I dont like adding negative comments when most was very positive but to say something I would comment on that we found the room to be a little dusty and there were stains on the toilet lid and sink in our Premium room. I also found the breakfast sausage too small (But tasted great) and the bacon too thick as it was quite hard due to sitting under a heat lamp I would think. Small things that didnt retract from the overall stay.

The food was excellent, value for money with good quality ingredients. The breakfast was first class with lots to choose from and they cater for all needs. This is my second time staying here for work as the commute into Carlisle is perfect, roughly 10 - 15 minutes away from where I need to be and a nice drive in. I would rather stay here than any of the chain hotels in Carlisle as you get more of a personal service. I was even given a nice cold bottle of water to take up to bed with me. Its the little things that go a long way. The rooms are all on par with each other so you won't be disappointed with what you get.
That I couldn't stay for longer!

Ample free parking, exceptionally clean with friendly, helpful staff! Lovely characteristic coach house. Nice outdoor seating, beautifully and tastefully decorated inside. Very good value with an amazing breakfast included. We booked an evening meal for our stay and the food was fantastic. The bar can get quite busy with locals (we stayed on a Friday night so perhaps that was the reason). I would recommend booking evening meal in advance as I imagine it gets booked up quickly, especially at the weekends. The room was lovely and clean and the bed was so comfortable. Plenty of tea/coffee/biscuits in the room.
We only booked for one night!!

The place is full of character and history. It has its own story to tell. It is spotlessly clean and welcoming. Our room was really sophisticated , yet very comfortable at the same time. It’s very much a country pub- the local shooting party were just meeting back up from their day and looked very smart! The location was great as we were on our way up to Scotland and within a reasonable distance from the motorway. Food in the evening was great and the breakfast was excellent. Staff were really friendly.

This is such a wonderful hotel. The staff are absolutely fabulous, well informed and can't do enough for you. The room was spacious, toasty warm and well furnished. The meals were hearty and delicious and the breakfast was lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
There was an issue with the light in our room that made it tricky to get the children to sleep and the manager was away so unable to fix it. The staff did try their best to remedy the situation but were unable to fix it. Absolutely not their fault though!

Booked as a one night stop over on our way to Scotland from the Midlands. Very friendly welcome from Sam on arrival. Our room was large and beautifully decorated, extra large comfortable king size bed. Plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. The bathroom was exceptional with free standing bath and walk in shower, illuminated mirror is always a plus for me ! We enjoyed a meal on the evening and breakfast was just as good. Both served by Chloe who was lovely Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
Nothing to not like !

This is a beautiful property with so much character! We loved the log burning fires, traditional decor and our beautiful room! The food was superb and service was excellent. The restaurant area is lovely and my son was thrilled with the pool table in the lounge area! Our room was quite cool in the evening as the radiator thermostat had been turned down prior to us staying but the owner very quickly sorted a fan heater for us which soon warmed the room up. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay!
The sofa beds in the room were not comfortable. They look lovely but there’s no mattress so they weren’t nice to sleep on.
