Breakfast was a good 'full english' with everything fresh and eggs not overdone. Decaff coffee available and a gift of sausages for our dog was appreciated. He was also made welcome by all staff. We weren't hurried out even though we sat there until after 10.00. It was convenient to have the restaurant next door for our evening meal as it was rather out of town. We were also told that a Take Away could have been served from there in the hotel, though this wasn't offered until after we'd eaten. The receptionist was very obliging and we'd been given a ground floor room as requested. He also set up the internet for us. As it was quite a long walk for my disabled husband we were offered a wheelchair, which he declined, but he was pleased to use the seat half way along the corridor. Our dog was also made welcome by all staff. The shower worked well, the wardrobe had plenty of hangers.and the beds were comfortable. Convenient sockets for hair drier etc. The garden was very convenient as was the bar! The parking place right outside the front door was also convenient.

An option of fruit with breakfast would have been good and maybe self service toast instead of it being served when we first sat down. The garden was being swept by a very friendly member of staff but the garden itself was very dry and dusty and rather unattractive, especially the pathway to get to it. I realise the unusually hot weather contributed to this but maybe a water feature would have been an advantage as dogs were welcomed. We would also have appreciated directions and maybe a simple map to show the nearest dog exercise areas. One small detail, the timing for breakfast differed between the receptionist and the hotel notes in the room.

The room was clean, comfortable, warm and ideal for us. The facilities were good, tea making and tv is what you get and that's ok. The staff were great and friendly and breakfast for the price was good. Do not expect 5 star but the stay was great and we would return. Room 33 was ideal for us. Don't believe the one star reviews as it's a low budget stay and you get what you pay for.

Only downfall at breakfast was the speed that the cooked part arrived before I had time to finish my cereal. Otherwise they prepared a choice of breakfast which was great. Also the power shower was very low on pressure and needs attention.

Our second visit, so we knew this hotel, that is such a lovely building, is a "work in progress" . We were pleased to see actual improvements being carried out and that now the weather has dried up a bit that outside has had more tidying up. We had a different room this visit and it overlooked a pleasant garden with seating! Once again we found the hotel both well aired and warm. Opening windows, and warm radiators are a big plus! Once again it was clean. Again lovely towels and good bed linen, plus a well furnished room with big TV that has Good reception. Good WiFi, too. The staff are welcoming and cheerful, kind and thoughtful as well because my gluten free requirements were remembered. The breakfast is very nice! We liked that there are lovely dog, and indeed child if you have children, places to get to within a few minutes walk. Our dog has self contained car accommodation but some guests had nicely behaved pets with them and they were clearly welcome! The hotel stands back from the road and is very quiet.

The only thing we would feel would be an improvement...taking into account this hotel is being restored throughout, is the provision of mattress protectors. The mattresses are clean and comfortable but we do like that extra layer.

This is a hotel undergoing restoration and we knew before booking We liked that our spotlessly clean room had a very comfy bed, a not fancy but clean bathroom, nice bed linen and good towels, plus toiletries. Our corridor had a lovely new red carpet, and our room was recently carpeted,too There was ample parking, a warm welcome and good tasty breakfast. We also liked the retained old features of the property. It was excellent value We liked having a bar in the evening and we were served very pleasantly

Outside could have done with a bit of a litter pick. The odd beer can in the border, the messy car park to the side of the hotel that needed a good sweeping ....and would very easily improve the whole overall impression So "first impressions" were not the best. Inside, accepting work is being done, some parts do really need It! However, we hope to stay again. We do prefer mattress and pillow protectors but the quilt, bed and pillow were "as new". Protectors would help keep them nice!

This was my second stay at this hotel. I was in a different room but the bed was just as soft and comfortable as my previous stay. The tea and coffee facilities are well stocked. Breakfast was included in the price and the full English is of a good standard with plenty of toast. There is a lovely stained glass window well worth a moment of appreciation. It's only a short drive to the city centre. Ideally placed for exploring the surrounding area. Good parking facilities.

The shower didn't work as well as the one in the room on my previous stay.

End of the day it was an old building that let's be honest has seen better days."BUT" It was clean and everything worked.The staff were helpful.It was £65 for the two of us.The place wasn't exactly sound proof but that was the fault of the guests not being considerate when leaving at 5.30 AM.Other than that nice place.Lot of character.Bit of investment and it could be boutique.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was tasty. The main building is beautiful with gorgeous stained glass windows

As the man who checked us in told me, they have only just taken over and are upgrading and making some things better. It was a little tired and worn in places but clean and tidy and comfortable. It has potential once the work is completed.

loved how comfortable the bed was, the size of the room was amazing, the places itself was so nices not much traffic heard, even with the window open what was really nices and was able to get a good night sleep moat nights.

did not like that we got no housekeeping at our stay over the week. We were there having to find someone for things that was not a full experience of the stay, also dis not like the light coming from under our door ever night and also been a weaken up around 6 am a few days to someone trying to enter are room or been waken up by housekeepers been a bite to loud. been a housekeeper myself would of been telling them to please keep it down however was able to go back to sleep the days we did not think that someone was not trying to get into are room at that time of morning. would say the prices of the room from Friday to Friday was a bite much for what it cost.

The staff were polite and very friendly as were the locals I met. The morning chef was more than happy to make alterations to our breakfast The building itself was very old and dated however as someone who loves old buildings it was a treat

The bed was a bit hard however I know people might like that and the sound proofing from the road mouse was not great so I was awoken quite early.

Only one cup in room ? Only one pillow each . But found some in wardrobe…. ? Not enough milk in room same as most places ….

As above , the main issue I had with this hotel was outside front door to the right . Bin was overflowing with rubbish , empty cartons , burger boxes etc when we arrived and still same when we checked out ? When you arrive that is not good image for rest of place ?
