We needed a one-night stop before visiting our son in Manchester and the Governor's House fitted the bill. Our room (No. 9) was very comfortable and, although over the bar and quite noisy at first as there was a works do below, turned out to be quiet later. We ate in the restaurant and were served by Olivia who was both friendly and professional - the perfect combination in a waitress! We had the lamb shank and the steak and ale pie and both were excellent. No breakfast as we were meeting our son for breakfast but it seemed to be very good value.

My husband would have liked more mushy peas puree!

From check in to check out everything was fine. The room was clean spacious and bed was super confortable, and very quiet. Even though we were the only people staying there a full breakfast table was laid out with loads of different options and my cooked breakfast was great.

The only small critism is that the shower over the bath only has an overhead shower (no-slide rail kit) not all women want to wash their hair everytime they shower and there wasn't a shower cap or a plug for the bath tub. Maybe either a plug or shower cap may have been useful.

I have nothing but praise for the Governors House. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was exceptional. A warm welcome from Mark on arrival and every interaction with staff throughout my stay was the same. A real gem. It was so nice to stay in a place that was such a high standard with a friendly feel. A bonus was the quality of the evening meal. Had fish and chips and can honestly say the fish was the best fish I have had in a long time. Another added bonus was the cosy bar area and positive vibe. Also lovely and warm on what was a very cold evening. Will definitely stay again.

My only negative comment (which is not a reflection on the hotel) is that my Satnav (Waze) actually took me to a housing estate and I had to use google maps instead to find the hotel. Surprising given its prominent position on a busy road.

The room was very good value. It was clean, well equipped and well maintained. This room was quite compact but comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. Check in and out was super easy and the breakfast was pretty de ent.

The rooms are above a pub so inevitably there is some noise. Windows only open a little so difficult to cool the room when hot. The pub below is good but the food was definitely middle of the road - convenient but not amazing.

I have stayed at this pub/hotel before and very much enjoyed the experience. The rooms are sizable and comfortable, the beds are very comfortable. Food from the restaurant was very good and there was a great selection for the breakfast menu. Overall this was a fantastic one night stay, with free parking that was very close to the airport. The staff very friendly and very accommodating for special requests. I would defiantly stay here again.

It was a hot day when we were here and the room was very warm - there was a fan provided which did help a little.

Used the place as a stopover when flying from Manchester early next morning. Great location and much better value than airport hotels. Tasty food and a good range of beers.

The evening meal was very good but many of the choices on the menu weren't available, or, at least we were told they weren't, then magically some reappeared. A bit confusing but it didn't spoil our meal! There was a noisy crowd in watching the football but we found a quiet corner of the dining room to eat in.

A warm welcome and service from friendly staff. The room was comfortable and quiet and the ambience of the bar downstairs was very pleasant. The breakfast was very good - a freshly cooked hot course and plenty of variety of food available. It was great to see healthy options like fresh fruit and low fat yoghurts, low sugar muesli etc.

My particular room, including bathroom, was on the small side, but nicely presented and perfectly ok for a solo traveller or couple.

Loved the location and the room size - we stayed in a family room and our two young children had the sofa bed. Really clean and the checkout of 11am was perfect for us. Great breakfast too.

A mini fridge in the room would have been helpful as we have a toddler so have lots of food we need tp keep chilled. Also we only got two towels for four of us - minor, just more helpful as a note for the team.

I had stayed there before so knew what to expect. Good location, fair price, very convenient place. Staff friendly and helpful.

Mostly it went well. Breakfast is good but could be improved. We found the fruit selection to be limited, even tinned fruit would improve it. Also, the hot water is in a flask. When we went down for breakfast (about 8.30am), the water in the flask was too cool to brew tea properly. Easy to deal with, just needs to be refreshed periodically.

Cheerful, attentive staff. Public areas (bar, restaurant, lounge) very attractive, comfortable. Easy parking. Good breakfast and evening meal. Bedroom ok.

Green King policy of not putting toilet brushes in en suite bathrooms is disgusting. Bath becomes extremely slippy when using shower-over-bath and Green King do not supply bath mats in bathrooms. This seems a very dangerous practice. Wi-fi difficult to connect to.
