Everything! Becky was lovely and even interrupted her break one day to give me some info. Lovely soft towels. Spacious room. Thick curtains. Heated towel rail switch meant it was easy to regulate the temperature. There was a much needed fan in the room. The room was in the courtyard block which was lovely and quiet (apart from a couple of selfish guests but that's not the hotel's fault). Shower was the best I've ever used, powerful and hot. Bathroom very clean. Plenty of storage and a big comfy, double bed with plenty of pillows. Of the 3 hotels I used this time this was definitely the best by far. Hotel is nicely furnished and peaceful.

Would've been helpful to have had a price list/menu for the bar/coffee options. The lift in the courtyard block was very temperamental, not always working. Shame there was no way of having the windows open more than a couple of inches.

Apart from the first day,we didn't have to wait long for breakfast. The location was stunning, and I loved our room which overlooked a green area with the sea beyond on one side and the cliffs on the other. Our room was elegant. You could have sat in the bay window in a muslin dress and imagined you were Lizzie Bennett! The street on which the hotel is located has 4 blue plaques-Lord Byron,Lady Nelson,Ada Lovelace and 'Lady Bountiful' all lived there at some point in history. The hotel staff went above and beyond-and quickly. Emily was particularly helpful in lending us a portable heater. Exmouth is a great location for exploring. We did quite a lot of walking along the SW Coast Path and round the estuary. The swimming pool was useful on a wet day. We had no problem travelling around via the very efficient train service, but buses are also regular.

Breakfast was average. There could have been more choice of cereals( Granola perhaps?). The choice of cooked breakfast was fairly limited. Porridge might have been added.

Room was lovely and comfortable, There's a lift to take you up the floors but there is a small set of stairs to get to the different level on the floor. It's an older hotel, but even though it's not modern, it's clean and well kept throughout. A parking space can be prebooked if available for a small charge per night which is handy as there are limited spaces. Parking is available on the roadside, but can get busy. Breakfast can be prebooked during your stay which starts at 8am. Small choice of continental options, with a full english menu to also choose from. Dog friendly so fantastic for us, with a separate area where we could eat with the dog. Central location which means it's around a 10-15 minute walk to either the seafront, the marina or the town where there is a good choice of restaurants and bars. It's on a hill, but it's not too steep. Prebook at The Beach, Rockfish and The Bath House for really great food. Staff were all extremely helpful and accommodating.

Not a fan of mixer showers in the bath but it was workable and good power.

Very friendly staff, allowed us to check in early and were on hand to help with questions and serve drinks in the bar later. The room was a good size, bedding clean and the bed comfortable, we both slept really well. There was a nice bar and plenty of comfortable seating areas. Breakfast was lovely, cereal, fruit juice and some pastries on the continental and then a cooked to order full English and toast, fresh coffee was also served. We enjoyed our stay and would book again as it was excellent value for money and the staff were fantastic.

Room decor was dated, the bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade, (room213) Parking was terrible, very small car park only available to pre-book at £10 a night, on street parking was free but we struggled to find anywhere and ended up a couple of streets away. The staff were great through and allowed us to pull into the car park to unload/load luggage. The hotel is up a hill, so a bit of a walk down to the seafront, not easy if you have mobility issues, but very good for the views.

The hotel location was excellent, the view from our twin sea view room was beautiful. Although the decor and furniture was dated( yesteryear charm? ) all served their purpose well. The beds were firm, clean and comfortable. Breakfast choice was very good especially Full English. Reception staff were both very helpful.

The hotel is old, but it is clear to see the ambience it once had, when in the future, the bar is up and running as intended, and lunch or an evening meal might be an option, with a bit of a refurb it will hold its own with the ‘shabby chic ‘ . We enjoyed our brief stay. Parking is a bit tricky.

The view from the room was lovely, bed very comfy, lovely shower. Room has everything you need it to have. Upon arrival, the room I had been allocated hadn't been cleaned. The staff were very quick to give me another room which had a lovely view and much better decor! They were so friendly and it wasn't an inconvenience at all and were super quick to handle me which was greatly appreciated.

As above, it is disappointing to walk into an uncleaned room (although handled very well by staff). The lack of parking was a bit of a pain (I ended up parking where I thought I could and got a ticket). There was some black mould in the tiles on the bathroom, which can easily be sorted with a spot of viakal and a good scrub. The mechanism to switch between the waterfall shower and the smaller shower (which I prefer) was damaged, and I couldn't get it to work which not the end of the world but would have been nice to be working.

Good location, great views, lucky with parking on the road outside. Large room, twin beds, spacious bathroom with shower over the bath. Lovely large towells. Lift, luggage storage as we arrived early before our room was ready. Tea and coffee in room, plenty of storage space. Breakfast was good, didn't have any of the continental, but the cooked breakfast was fresh and piping hot. Good ch oice with veggie and vegan options. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Quiet location, we were at the Pavilion on the evening, very short walk, although steep path in places if you have any mobility issues.

Shower took a while to get the temperature right as it was mixer taps, but incredibly powerful! Carpet in our room was stained and tired. Bed was very firm, I did toss and turn quite a bit to get comfortable. All in all, great value for money and I would stay again.

Dog friendly. Good location. Welcoming staff. Good quality clean bedding. No restaurant but we were able to order in food to eat in the bar which made travelling with the dogs and kids easier.

Dogs only allowed in certain rooms. Had to book a courtyard room which was clean but rather run down. We then had to pay an additional £60 for the dogs to stay (£20 per dog per night for the first dog then £10 per night for second). Seemed a disproportionate amount given the state of the room. Other dog friendly rooms may be available but weren’t an option when we booked.

Unfortunately, at the time of our stay, the hotel had a problem with access due to a broken lift from the car park. This was only a problem for ME due to recent hip surgery and mobility. The hotel staff were very helpful and moved us to a Courtyard room ( ground floor access) without any issue and arranged for our breakfast to be brought to the room as I could not access the dining room. They were very accommodating and we would certainly stay there again.

Extractor fan in bathroom very noisy.

The location of the Royal Beacon is excellent. It's set back from the sea front, quiet and relaxing. On line it gave the price for breakfast as £15. We didn't pre-book it but decided to have it when we arrived and they offered it to us for less, at £12. The staff were very helpful and friendly which made the stay more enjoyable. Over all it was a good experience staying at the hotel and although the part we stayed in is a little dated, it was clean and the room better than I expected. I would stay here again.

Nothing.
