We booked after a national press review and we were not disappointed. In fact this wonderful ancient mill exceeded our expectations in every respect. The location was idyllic with wonderful gardens and seating areas on every side of the mill to sit, relax, watch the River Wensum babble by, enjoy the locally brewed ale, excellent wines and, perhaps most of all, the quite exceptional cooking with innovative dishes. Every member of staff was warm, welcoming and highly efficient - treating us as valued guests. A remarkable conversion of a beautiful mill into a modern pub/restaurant with rooms. All within easy reach of the highlights of the gorgeous Norfolk coast.

It didn't affect us but guests staying in the rooms should be aware that internal stairs could be problematic for those with mobility issues - as can be expected in an ancient mill conversion.

All good - friendly staff, comfortable room and bathroom with shower which is much preferred, excellent breakfast. Did not dine there as was attending an event, but local friends say it is excellent. The hotel garden is very attractive and it is in a lovely setting.

Only a slight cautionary note just for solo women travelers - as I was attending a local function I was unable to return until around 11.40 when the hotel is closed - access to rooms after hours is behind and down the side of the building via iron stairs up to a side door with an access code - it was very dark and poorly lit and would have been a bit daunting if I had not asked the driver who delivered me back to come with me and use his phone torch and wait to see me safely in.

The hosts were very responsive to all the queries I had in advance of our stay. We had originally booked four rooms but one couple were unable to make it. The hosts were very helpful about which of the rooms I should cancel. Our rooms were all clean and there was plenty of hot water in the bathrooms. Our room was described as compact and although it was small it had everything we needed for a two night stay. We ate at the Mill both nights, once upstairs in the restaurant and the second night in one of the nooks of the bar (though we had the restaurant menu). We all enjoyed the food. A goo range of beers and after we drank all the Jameisons they had on our first night they made sure there was a new bottle waiting for us for our second niight. Breakfast was nice with a good choice. The weather wasn't on our side for our visit but had it been less windy and dry we would have explored the area. We would stay again.

Personal preference would be to have had a TV in the room. Would also have liked firmer pillows but again that is just a personal preference.

Bed was super comfy and the pillows AMAZING. Breakfast was fresh and hot, scrambled eggs were delicious. Friendly staff, building is beautiful and tastefully decorated. Gardens are also beautiful. Only 15 minutes from Thursford.

Very thin walls I'm afraid, lack of information and greeting when we arrived. Walking into a busy pub with my daughter was daunting and we had to stand and wait for milk, really embarrassing, stood wet in our coats with suitcases. Lack of light in the room, obviously this is due to the age of the building, but very dimly lit. Room was cold when we arrived and stayed cold, really needs a small chest of drawers for clothes. I would stay again as I would love to try out the restaurant and explore the area.

Beautiful spot on a small river, gorgeous beer garden and lovely old building. The room was on the small side but comfortable and with a large modern walk-in shower. Nice beer and tasty food. Step outside the front door and you're straight onto some quiet country lanes, perfect for walking/running.

Few complaints, except that dinner service was very slow. We waited around 90 min from ordering till we received our main. It was well after 9pm by the time we were eating, which wasn't great for my elderly parents. (It was a Saturday but the restaurant wasn't full). The food was tasty, if pricey, when it finally came out.

Lovely location and setting. Rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Liked the little added touch of the flask of fresh milk and the Tunnocks Tea Cakes in the room. Good coffee machine with decent coffee and a decent sized kettle in the room. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was lovely. Breakfast was also very good and the staff were friendly.

We felt rushed to leave and go back to our room after dinner. The restaurant and pub had emptied, it was a Sunday eve, but we felt like the staff wanted to lock up and go home. It was before 10pm. Also, it is a dog friendly hotel but after walking your dog there are no bins to put waste in.

It’s lovely- it has beautiful things to look at, a building made up of lots of lovely rooms , very quirky and individual . It’s very peaceful and set next to a river , stunning The owners and their staff can’t do enough for you- the food we had was delicious. We were told the breakfast is first class - it was !

We certainly didn’t dislike it for being an older property - lots of stairs and a few cobwebs and creaky floorboards - which just added to the experience

Everything! The mill is a stunning building set in a beautiful area of the countryside on the outer edge of Fakenham. The facilities are spotless, and the staff members are all very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast started with cereal and/or fruit juice followed by a choice from the hot menu. Needless to say, the Full English was devoured on both of the days we were there. This was walked off on the first morning by going on the walk outlined in the brochure in the room, which took you through part of the lovely surroundings. Highly recommended. Unable to fault the accommodation, the service or the people.

I couldn’t get dinner in the evening so had to just have a sausage roll !! Wasn’t told about the timings when checking in , also I had to ask for the tv which I requested via email to be told you don’t have any in the rooms but it was then sorted as I had a email stating this was a request . Staff not overly friendly at all on the Sunday but the girl at breakfast Monday morning was great .

Great ambience (pity about the weather,) and very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfasts and one very good dinner. The sausage rolls, for lunch snack, were awesome. It is an old place, so we should not complain about steps etc. which add to the attraction (unless you have crutches as my wife did!) and I LOVE the man at the top of the stairs.
