Everything was really good. Easy to find, loads of parking space, all staff very friendly and obliging. Can see been recently decorated, and was clean. The room and bathroom were larger than is commonplace ( cf Premier Inn ) with newly fitted and tiled bathroom. Furniture somewhat dated but served purpose. We had twin very comfortable beds. Shower power was weak, which was our only downside. Buffet breakfast was lovely with all you could wish for and you helped yourself to whatever. Nice comfortable reasonably priced well stocked bar.

As above the shower power could have been better, but we managed

I love the faded grandeur of the building. It was warm and comfortable.

Unfortunately breakfast on Sunday morning was a shambles. People were queuing for self service food but it was virtually empty. It took 15 mins for the eggs to arrive. There were no croissants or pastries. Guest were having to stack dirty pots on other tables in order to have a table to sit at. Far from the normal standard and we have stayed there 3 times this year. The bar was very poorly stocked no gin or brandy . My sister asked for an extra pillow as she only had one, it never arrived. Very disappointing

We had a refurbished room which was a great improvement thank you Rob, still has a few minor issues which we mentioned but on the whole a very good stay. Good free parking arrangements, excellent location, very helpful staff, reasonable bar and food prices, discount food voucher was appreciated. There were biscuits and bottled water in the room along with the tea and coffee which was nice. The beds were very comfortable.

Breakfast was a bit overcrowded and could have been hotter, one of the evening meals had to be sent back as it was not hot enough, this was quickly rectified, apart from this they were plentiful and reasonably priced. The newly refurbished room had a couple of points that we thought could be improved, the kettle needs to be the type with a removable base as the current fixed type needs to be unplugged from under the table when taking away to be filled up each time, to view the TV from both the single beds it obstructed the bathroom door access when it was pulled out, although it did not bother us on a one night stay we noticed that there was nowhere to hang any clothes in the room which may be an issue to some, we gave these points as feedback to the manager when we checked out.

The location is excellent. Very nice hotel. Our suite was very good, didn't mind the older decor. Bottles of water and biscuits to go with the tea and coffee in the room every morning if you have used them. Breakfast was great. Lovely staff, they are all very friendly.

The only thing I could say about it is that it would have been nice to have air conditioning in all the rooms as it got so hot very quickly in the room. They did have a fan in the room which made it more bearable. Only other thing is that the mirror in the bathroom could be lower. The wife could not use it.

The Orwell Hotel is 130 years old, its beautiful and full of history, there are several different areas to sit and have a drink from the bar, including outside seating, the lifts take you to the floor you need, the room and bathroom had everything you need, including tea, coffee, kettle, milk, hairdryer etc, the bathroom had shower gel, shampoo, body lotion and soap. Everywhere was clean, maybe getting a little old in places but it's all part of its character, the dining room was beautiful with thick carpet on the floor and chandeliers on the ceiling. There was a choice of a full English, yogurts, cereals, toast, croissants and fruit for breakfast, plus tea coffee and fruit juice, food was buffet style so you help yourself to anything you would like. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to go back one day.

There was only one window that opened in the bedroom and because it had a safety lock on it, it only opened a couple of inches, the room was quite hot, luckily there was a fan which helped a bit.

Felixstowe is a great place. A real gem. The hotel has been taken over and by what i can see it looks like they will be doing the place up if some of the facilities are to go by. Staff very friendly, bar prices not normal hotel expensive. Breakfast was eat as much as you like and very welcome. Rooms show signs of decoration or revamp required. We had to change rooms as no bath plug but this was not a problem and they sorted it quickly. Free parking was welcome. We will stay there again and prop up the lively bar. Be good to see its old world charm brought into the 21st century. Don't expect it to be super smart but it has character. Give it a go.

No bath plug. Some shabby odd parts of decor.

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at this wonderful hotel, and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with the kindest hospitality and care. Every single staff member went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed, valued, and completely at home. What truly stood out was how the team made our birthday celebration unforgettable. The warmth and attention we received made this more than just a stay — it became a memory we’ll always treasure. We can't thank the staff enough for their kindness and the joy they brought to our celebration. If you're looking for a place where you'll be genuinely cared for, this is it. Already looking forward to our next visit!

I love this historic little hotel in Felixstowe, which retains much of its original features and charm. Long may this be so, as I know there is a little refurbishment underway! Hopefully, it won't interfere with the period vibe. Warm, welcoming reception with staff that could not have done more to accommodate our wishes. They were lovely and you wouldn't find better in a much more expensive hotel. First rate staff all round. A super-generous buffet breakfast, with Suffolk treats like black pudding. Incredibly good value for money and a short walk from the town and seafront, with their varied mix of interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. This is my absolute favourite Suffolk hotel. Thank you, Orwell.

Herb teas and a few cookies or biscuits in the rooms, as well as regular tea and coffee, would be nice. But certainly not a deal-breaker.

We stayed in the Deben Suite again, which is our favourite, it is spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and professional as usual. We do stay here mostly when we visit Felixstowe. We had the Afternoon Tea for two (with Prosecco of course) and it was really lovely, highly recommended. I look forward to returning with my family soon.

There was previously a fridge in the Deben Suite which we were expecting to have but it did not have one this time which was deflating as we had already bought some yoghurts & fresh milk and other basic fridge bits when we arrived (the shop across is not open yet so we had to buy before arriving). It would be lovely if this suite could have a fridge again as we are there for two weeks in September. The hotel will also be even better when the restaurant is open again for evening meals. My hope is that when it is open again, it will not just be with a basic menu like it was recently but more like the dining room menu as well as a basic pub meal menu, like before

It's obvious that this hotel is undergoing change (for the better). The common areas (restaurant, bar, lounge and reception rooms) are exquisite architecture with simply incredible original features featuring ornate plaster ceilings, chandeliers, wood panelling, fireplaces, display cabinets, wooden ornate staircase, the list goes on. If you live in Felixstowe please visit the bar just to sample this for yourself. The bedroom was ok. The owners are actively upgrading rooms but my bedroom was perfectly fine, the bathroom a bit tired but spotless. There aren't many hotels you can get for £48. Get in there now because in time, this place is going to be a gem. Well Impressed.

Instant coffee for breakfast! You can do better Orwell!
