Beautiful hotel overlooking the sea, pier and beach. Staff at reception and in the attached Greek Restaurant were fantastic. Very friendly and informative.

It's a minor point but the name of the more expensive rooms, Princess Quarters conjures up an image of a large spacious room. The room is of an average hotel size, the bed is a standard double. This didn't spoil our stay one bit and we would stay there again. I would suggest a change of name for the Balcony rooms to avoid disappointment.

Great location for beach and arcades. Clean hotel. All the staff were very friendly from reception to bar staff and waiting staff. The food was very nice and great breakfast. There was entertainment with a ska band, very good. The restaurant attached is very nice and lovely decoration. Shame we are not closer to visit more often. Wi-Fi included

Booking.com double booked our room. We booked last September as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations. We booked the room with sauna shower but had been booked on a long term booking and no similar room was available. Our room overlooked a sports bar which had music and noise until late into the night, although good music was loud, would suggest you take earplugs. There is a car park at the back of the hotel but limited spaces. There is street parking but maximum 2 hours with no return.

Room was good, clean and well presented. Breakfast was good with decent selection and service. Staff very helpful on arrival and hotel well presented

Bathroom was very small, the sink was in the way of sitting on the toilet. Hotel WiFi cut out constantly and the TV didn’t have any BBC channels and what channels they did have would often freeze or not work. I had not checked with staff so maybe something could have needed to be reset but used my tablet and phone instead.

Great Beachfront location. Sea view from room. Balcony with room. Bathroom very clean. Staff friendly. Greek restaurant in hotel was well designed and had a lively atmosphere. Hotel recently decorated so public areas were well maintained. Would stay again.

Due to location being on the beach front there was some noise during the day from the fair rides opposite the hotel 0 but it all closed in the evening so no noise at night, Hotel does not have it's own car park and the public car park behind the hotel can get busy due location near the beachfront. Would be useful to have some pre-bookable parking bays reserved for hotel guests in that car park. Lift in hotel is dated and needs modernising.

The room, staff, location and food were all great. Was given the option to upgrade to the empress suite (room 106) which had the jacuzzi and a few other extras and was well worth it. Was there for Valentine’s Day and they really went all out for that which we weren’t expecting but was very cute. Breakfast was lovely and ate dinner in the Greek restaurant and that was also very good.

The only thing that let the stay down was that we had an extremely noisy group of lads in the room next door who came in at 2:30am and decided to carry on the party in their room until check out the next morning! Although the staff can’t really control that the walls were very thin.

I and my girlfriend enjoyed a cosy weekend away in our room. It was clean and well presented on arrival and was cleaned in the same manner when requested. The only minor complaint would be the lift. It was an amazing stay, and the breakfast was immaculate!

My only complaint was that the wall was fairly thin, and the lift seemed old and rickety. It worried my girlfriend who has leg issues and couldn't always walk the stairs.

It was in a convenient location for my mother, because of her mobility difficulties. The staff were exceptional when we arrived and as soon as they saw that my mother had some difficulties, they offered us an alternative to our booked room. They were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much of a problem. The room was clean and well maintained and the breakfast was served quickly and good. Overall, value for money. We stay in the town often but this is the first time we have stayed at the Royal Hotel. We definitely plan to return there.

Due to the location, it can be noisy, particularly at night. However, if you want to be in the centre of all the town’s major attractions, it is to be expected.

Smart monochrome decor throughout with a spacious room and good bathroom, including a bath and shower screen. Breakfast/dining room very good and attentive service by the young waitress and newly started reception lady. No private car park, but free roadside parking in the side road till 11am (2 hours free from 9am) so no problem. At £58 including a very well cooked breakfast it was excellent value.

Nothing really. Light came in the sides of the curtains early morning, but very few hotels provide full blackout. Visor necessary!

The room was spacious and the staff were really welcoming and helpful throughout my stay here . The breakfast, we got a full English and a Bacon sarnie , they were even kind enough to wrap our food so it stayed warm and dust free whilst I took it upstairs. Can't wait to come back :)

The lift... But I'm aware of it being old and apparently it's owned by the residents in the flat above the hotel .. surely some improvements can be considered, the stairs much quicker option ... if you have a good set of lungs on you ...

The service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble! Even when I phoned down at 11 30pm on Saturday night to say that I couldn't get any hot water for a bath, someone came up to my room really quickly and resolved the issue for me. Breakfast was great, we had a good choice of hot breakfast. I had the vegan breakfast both mornings, it was absolutely delicious and unusual. I am not a vegan, or even a vegetarian, but would thoroughly recommend it. The staff were so very friendly. I really liked my room and was very happy to have a bath in the ensuite, as I had requested. The mattress was wonderfully firm, with a great anti allergenic ( as requested) heavy duvet We ate in the restaurant on one evening - the food was wonderful! They had Greek night on the second night which sounded like great fun. If I am ever in Clacton I would stay there again!

The lift could do with looking a lot smarter to match the hotel.
