Ideally placed near to Frinton on Sea. The room and bathroom are very good. Mattress could do with replacing on both beds. Breakfast is really good, pleasant staff. We were visiting family and didn't return until around 10 pm,hoping we could have a nightcap prior to retiring to our room, only managed the one night as bar appears to shut early. Apart from that,we did enjoy our stay.

Beds are really in need of new mattresses. It would have been nice if we could of had a 10pm nightcap. I do understand staff have to go home ,maybe if we had asked prior to going out ,if we could have ordered beforehand. Not to worry.

We liked everything about this pub/hotel. We were in the area for a funeral and because the wake was being held at the Rose and Crown, we were lucky to get a room as they only have 5. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, from the time we arrived to when we left the next day. The service, food and drinks were great. They laid on the buffet for the wake which was really good too and we had dinner in the evening and it was lovely. We also met the owners who happened to pop into the bar and they were super nice and welcoming. The room was very comfortable and cosy and clean. Great shower which is always a big tick for me. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice. Great electronic door system on all doors which makes you feel safe. I would definitely stay here again if I visited the area. There is a spa down the road (The Life House) which I have visited before and stayed over but if I did it again, I would book a day spa and spend the night at The Rose and Crown. Thanks for looking after us all.

The only thing I didn't like was that I couldn't stay longer!

The young lady at check in was very friendly and helpful. In the evening she was joined by another young lady who was also helpful and pleasant. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean although a little small I would think for some people. We ate in the bar on the evening of our stay and the food was tasty and hot.All in all a good stay and I would stay again.

Breakfast was the total opposite to the evening and was no where near to the service or standards we received at other establishments.Firstly the staff were less friendly and less prepared. The breakfast area was not even ready when we arrived ,no coffee or tea ready. The lady took our order and then we had to wait around 30 minutes for cold smoked salmon on toast and a poached egg on toast (obviously they have very slow toaster) .Although edible the meals were less than appealing and were not included in the room rate.Overall we both wished we had skipped the breakfast and eaten elsewhere. My advice to the owners would be sort out the breakfast offering and include it in the room rate.

A lovely village pub/hotel. The atmosphere is relaxed and uncomplicated, the staff down to earth and very nice. Ideal to spend the night here if you disembark from the Hoek Van Holland - Harwich ferry in the evening. Can't judge the dinner, because I didn't have it there.

If you don't partake in the suicidal English Breakfast, the 'Continental Breakfast' is usually very poor everywhere in England (except maybe in the really big establishments). That is not different here. Having said that, the staff is so lovely and forthcoming that one doesn't mind.

Warm friendly, courteous and attentive staff team. Public areas were clean and presentable with a pleasant ambiance. Also benefits from a private paved rear garden. Our room was clean, comfortable and bright, well apportioned with excellent facilities. We had dinner and breakfast and both meals were selected from excellent and varied menus offering adequate choice for all palates. The meals were of generous portions and excellent quality. They also have entertainment nights with tribute acts, unfortunately not on the evening we were staying.

Nothing. All good.

Location was perfect for us as we have family in the next village. Staff were very welcoming and really looked after us. We arrived late but this wasn't a problem at all. The room was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The shower was great! Breakfast was amazing, really tasty.

Only slight was that the room was really warm, but if it hadn't been such a warm weekend this would have been a plus!

the room was large, clean and comfortable with tea making facilities. a big tv (much bigger than we usually get in rented rooms). Shower was powerful. the staff were very friendly. we had lunch and breakfast here and cannot fault the food or service. The room had a large fan in which under normal circumstances would’ve been fine but we stayed on a night when the outside night temp was in the mid twenties so we baked…not the hotels fault at all.

the pub area was a little dated.

A friendly welcome. The room was tidy and clean with tea and coffee a plenty and biscuits awaiting us. Breakfast was good and with a good choice from full English to scrambled eggs on toast. Had lunch here as well and again the food was very good and plentiful.

Says there is free parking but only has 3 spaces, so as all taken had to park on road which is a busy one. CAUTION as to where you park.

We had a very warm welcome from Zoë. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff. Room 4 was spacious with a comfy bed and a hot powerful shower with lovely fluffy towels. The room was very clean and quiet. The breakfast was very tasty. The pub had a comfortable, relaxed feel with sofas as well as chairs and tables. It had a log burner, although it wasn't on when we were there.

There was nothing that we didn't like, it was all perfect.

Friendly & helpful staff, Clean comfortable room with all you could need - kettle, complimentary coffee, tea, biscuits and water plus hairdryer and fan. Excellent full English breakfast included in price. Also enjoyed a very nice evening meal - beef and ale pie followed by strawberry cheesecake.

Single beds seemed rather narrow & a bit restricting. Shower was not very powerful.
