We stayed for one night at Barnfields Retreat in a double-bedroom with en suite shower room and a lovely little balcony (table and chairs included) overlooking the huge rear garden and adjoining paddock. We were met by our lovely host, John, who welcomed us into his 'quite unique' home.. The room was very nice, with a little fridge filled with complimentary soft drinks, which proved very welcome during the recent heatwave! John also provided us with a jug of fresh milk to put in the fridge...for our teas and coffees in the room. Breakfast was delicious, served with care and attention by John. It included cereals, fresh strawberries, yoghurt, toasted bread....and lovely toasted croissants. A great start to our day! There was plenty of parking at Barnfields and a number of eating places for an evening meal within a reasonable distance (plenty in Clacton-on-Sea). We enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Barnfields to future visitors. Thank you, John!

One small point: The en suite door appeared to be slightly warped and, therefore, wouldn't close properly.

We had a pleasant stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The hosts - John and Elizabeth were extremely friendly and offered a great experience to their guests. Kids loved playing with their pet dog and had plenty of space to play and relax . King room with additional lounge , delicious breakfast , main lounge , access to a big garden are ideal for families to spend quality time . If you are looking for quiet and calm place to stay for a good price , definitely recommend Barnfields . We will be definitely booking again .

We were welcomed by the host on arrival and was very attentive to our needs. 9 yr old son with me loved the freedom of big garden and pond to venture too and the dog was a major hit and good company for him. We were going to Walton 1 day so much closer than coming from home. Very unique stay with a round bed and statues around house and garden . our room was nice with balcony and seating and sofa indoors for couple of nice chilled evenings. Host found out I had food intollerances and was thoughtful and went out to get more suitable supplies for breakfast.

Warm and friendly greeting by John. Great room with balcony overlooking the garden. Cold drink and milk in mini fridge were complementary. Good continental breakfast in pleasant surroundings. Friendly chat with John before we left.

Two small points: 1) bathroom door did not always stay shut so had to put bath mat against it to ensure privacy 2) bathroom sink drain and waste area could have been cleaner

I had a very comfortable stay here. John was a pleasure to talk to (as was Minty the dog!). The location is wonderfully peaceful, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Really enjoyed the quiet, relaxed continental breakfast in the morning. The mini fridge with complimentary milk and other touches was much appreciated. Secure off-road parking was a great bonus. Will stay again when back in the area for work.

A very comfortable stay in a lovely quiet location. Breakfast was delicious and our host was very friendly and keen to make sure our stay was as comfortable as possible. The bed was comfortable and it was great having a mini fridge in the room - with some complimentary snacks and drinks included!

You have to be happy to drive in and out of the town, but that wasn't a problem for us.

Lovely continental breakfast, would of been nice for a full english. John was such a great welcoming host. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet his wife as she was away. Their dog was so cute. My twins loved it here playing with the dog. Felt so comfortable and relaxed, john was a young man at heart and we all got on so well. Was nice decor in the rooms, the wife had brought her culture in the rooms, and we had the lounge to ourselves which was nice to chill out. The garden was beautifull and lovely to relax in, until my twins made so much noise playing, nice pond at the back with ducks. Nice touches was a mini fridge with complimentary drinks. Would come back again in future.

A full english would have been nice, also just needed a bit of a clean but not too bad.

The owner John went above and beyond with his accommodating attitude and friendly service that he provided! The bedroom was a very good size with a stocked fridge which contained complimentary snacks and drinks and a jug of fresh milk. The room had a balcony which was perfect to sit on and catch some afternoon rays with a cuppa! The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever stayed in! John met us with a smile and with his companion, little Minty the Yorkshire Terrier , we instantly felt welcomed into his home! The dining room is a good size and again, John was full of smiles and nice conversation during our lovely continental breakfast!

Although the property may appear slightly dated, the service received far outweighs this!

The property is fantastic and in a really good position,we had lovely views of the grounds from our Balcony. John was great he was always on hand.
