A warm welcome from the reception and a room upgrade for our anniversary was much appreciated! Personal touches in the room with welcome drink and Madeira & homemade biscuits was thoughtful as well as premium eco minded bathroom Amenities. Spa was pleasant and pool was heated perfectly ! Dinner staff were lovely and food good. Breakfast service was fine but warmed plates and a more peactical self serve dish ( heavy lidded cast iron caaseroles ) for hot food proved a bit awkward . The coffee cafitieres were generous . A lovely treat to stay ! Great job on the refurb overall.

Consider Adding sauna panic button and life ring near pool Bedroom a bit over warm at night with windows open . Breakfast serve and choice ( eg porridge / poached / fried egg ) maybe wider for autumn into winter ? Provide warm plates for hot foot Dairy free milk option ?

Everything. The Alfriston is , for me, the very best spa hotel I've ever stayed in. I have been twice, and both visits have been exceptional. The staff are amazing - friendly, kind, welcoming. They do everything possible to make one feel comfortable.It's very dog-friendly ( I took my Golden retriever with me). I adore the location, the superb spa and pool. The delicious evening meals out on the terrace. The generous breakfasts. The top quality food. I cannot praise this gorgeous hotel any higher. I love the interior decoration of the rooms. The cleanliness - sensible considering children and dogs abound. It's all perfect. I can't wait to come back for my third visit!.

Breakfast was included and buffet-style, with a large choice. Lunches and teas were served inside or out on the large terrace. The bar has a good range and the wine list is especially good. Dinner was very good and I beleive the menu changes daily. The setting is superb, a few 100m from the quaint town centre with many pubs and shops but also a short stroll to the river, or a longer walk to the sea, and it's on the South Down Way. Staff were friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The grounds are extensive and there's a heated pool (included) and a chargeable spa.

The rooms are on the small side, and the en-suite bathrooms are ridiculously small and tight, with barely room to squeeze inside when you open the door. I'm afraid that's quite a big negative and may be enough to stop us coming back. It's also not very disabled-friendly, although they laid ramps for my wheelchair-bound friend his room and bathroom were no different from mine and very difficult to use for anyone with limited mobility.

The hotel is in a lovely location on the edge of the beautiful village of Alfriston. The lady on the reception desk was friendly, efficient and helpful, as were the other members of staff. We were offered a glass of Chenin Blanc at check-in, which was a most welcome after a long drive. The room was well-furnished, the bathroom a generous size and both were spotless. The spa is lovely, though the steam room was rather lacking in steam!

I advise people to avoid Room 35 (or others in the Coach House) as the front window is close to what appears to be the main extract from the kitchen and the side looks on to a diesel generator next to the spa. Both are noisy. The other criticism is that the hotel charges by the hour (£20/hr) to extend check-out beyond 11.00. If you want to use the spa in the morning, you have to get up early or transfer your clothes to the changing rooms there ... or pay up. This is not a cheap hotel so I would expect more flexibility.

Beautiful property and beautiful grounds. The first room we were offered was right next to the car park away from the hotel but with one phone call they managed to find us a room within the hotel which was just perfect. We did request a vegan breakfast and had pre-warned them, but unfortunately they didn’t provide us with one. However, they did refund me my money for the breakfast so I can’t complain and the staff are really really friendly and helpful. I would rate them as excellent as what problems I did encounter were dealt with well.

Period property, immaculately maintained, beautifully decorated.

The Orangery is lovely location for breakfast, however the hot food was actually tepid rather than hot and the scrambled eggs tasted slightly off. Also as one is offering very small bowls for cereals etc., then one should ensure that the honeydew melon pieces are cut either small enough to eat without further cutting or thin enough to cut easily. Because with a small bowl and only a spoon it was not easy to make the portion easily edible.

The crab linguine did not contain any crab pieces. It should have said it was linguine soaked in a crab rue.

The hotel has recently been totally refurbished and everywhere is very stylish, clean and new. My room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Nice touches like quality biscuits on the drinks tray in the room, a glass of wine offered at check-in and a personal welcome note on my bed. The outdoor swimming pool is lovely.

Just two comments: (1) The cooked breakfast offering is all pre-cooked and kept in dishes on hotplates. The food was lukewarm, and inevitably nowhere near as nice as breakfast cooked to order. (2) The hotel is very open plan on the ground floor, and I was in a room along the corridor from the bar area. On the night I stayed there was a group in the bar enjoying themselves, and the noise was very audible in my room. However they did not continue beyond 11pm - not sure if that was the decision of the group concerned, or if the hotel management requested no noise in the bar beyond this time.

Comfortable room, beautiful decoration, clean and well maintained, helpful and friendly staff. Nice pool and spa area.

We came with our baby and had at first received room between the street, parking lot and the ventilators / generators, making it very loud and impossible to open windows at night. We asked for a different, quieter room for our baby, and the staff were very friendly and were immediately offered another great room in the main building. Breakfast was only buffet and not many options, quality rather average. Could be fresher and more variety.

Beautifully renovated, spotlessly clean, real attention to detail as per guest comfort and optimum leisure experience. Nice little touches such as a welcome drink of cold Chenin blanc, handmade buscuits, premium tea bags, Bramley bath and hair products. The spa and outdoor pool are exquisite - recommend Alessandra for probably one of the best full body massages that I have ever had. All the staff were beautifully presented, polite and eager to help - Helen in reception went out of her way to be informative & helpful. We had two nights and the weather was wonderful so we have returned feeling like we have been abroad - thank you all so much and very well done to everyone working there.👏👏🙏🏻🙏🏻🥂

I liked everything

This hotel is located in stunningly beautiful countryside in Sussex and it is a delightful building in itself. The spa was my highlight, especially on a sunny September day to be able to swim outside in the heated pool and use the other facilities. That was bliss! Our room had gorgeous decor and extremely comfortable. We had a magical stay.

We wanted to extend our stay for another night but the prices for that night had rocketed.
