A lovely hotel - with hotel prices; we normally book B&B but as we were walking the SDW and needed somewhere in Alfriston there seemed to be limited choice. Hotel itself has some lovely old features. Can't fault the service - and breakfast was really good, in fact the full English was almost too big (cut back on day 2 so could enjoy more of the rest of the food on offer). Lovely location near to church, and Alfriston itself has a lot of interesting buildings including the NT Clergy House. Were able to sit in small alcove off the lounge and relax with a book (once previous occupants had left for their meal!)

We had a 'Superior Double room' (#17) which was the lowest priced room; not sure what makes it Superior (although the tea/coffee making facilities and complementary items were better than elsewhere). Very small room (admittedly the size is mentioned on the booking form) - apparently if booking direct there might have been an upgrade available when checking in (I perhaps should have asked anyway - missed out on a bath). 4 massive cushions on the bed - why? Just made the room feel even smaller! Very limited space for cases. For some reason the water from the cold tap came out warm (or even hot) even after letting it run for quite some time.

Wonderful place to stay. Right in the heart of the country in Sussex. So quiet, lovely place , beautiful room with bath and wet room shower. Staff from minute i arrived were excellent. I asked if i could have a fan in my room, the lady found one and put it up by my room. Beautiful surroundings, had a nice cold beer in the quiet and sunshine. Had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, the manager was very helpful and even gave me a nice aperitif compliments of the chef. Food was top class as were all the staff. Superb saty,

Great central location, lots of character, warm and welcoming hotel. Staff very smiley and helpful. Bed was very comfortable, lots of hot water and a delicious breakfast. We also had a lovely meal in the delightful restaurant one evening.

The hearing in our bathroom hadn’t been turned on before our arrival and as it was a huge bathroom, that meant it was quite chilly. The heated towel rail in the bathroom never did get above lukewarm despite a sign on it saying ‘Caution - these pipes may be very hot’! If only…

Staff were incredible. Cathy in the restaurant is always so accommodating, jovial & warm. Check in lady was great and Glenn/ Glynn (the gent at reception) totally fabulous, great local tips & advice & nothing too much bother. Really appreciated the upgrade & adore visiting. Gorgeous little town & I love coming back here.

Room gets really hot. It’d be great if the window opened higher. If breakfast was an option until 10am that would be amazing. ~ Otherwise loved everything

Excellent location. Charming and well-appointed house. Our "classic" room was comfortable and a good size, but with very small bathroom. Breakfast good, but not exceptional.

Steep steps from car park quite difficult with luggage. Not easy to make use of kettle in room - no socket convenient for a table suitable to put the kettle on. We were surprised that there was no actual bar, but drinks were available on request late evenings (e.g. on returning after Glyndebourne) if you could find a member of staff.

Great location and staff very good. Had one freezing day/night in our room with no heating due to a fault, but I think a one off and just unlucky. The location/village is beautiful and lots to do and see in the area.

Breakfast was excellent and evening meal was good, if not quite up to the standard of breakfast. I may just have ordered badly and we had large lunches on both days, which can spoil dinner

Generous, well-prepared breakfast with good range of options. Excellent friendly and cheerful staff - receptionist immediately offered us a ground-floor room when she saw I was on crutches. Pleasant public spaces, good range of newspapers. Excellent village -centre location, and we had quiet bedroom overlooking the Tye.

Couldn't regulate the hot radiator in the bathroom, and we don't sleep well in hot rooms!

Loved the style of the room. Beautiful bathroom. The restaurant's evening meal was delicious with local ingredients. Breakfast was amazing! I would return for a short break.

The room was too hot. Even though I turned off the radiator, the room retained the heat and was a bit uncomfortable at night. We should have opened the balcony doors slightly. The bed was a bit too hard for our liking, but that was a personal preference.

There were two complimentary macarons under a little glass bell, sitting pretty in our bedroom. Charm also oozed from the well decorated living room and exposed beams in our room. The restaurant with its low light, low jazz, low ceiling felt cosy and elegant. The menu was safe but well executed, particularly the vegetarian option. I loved it. We were also brought deep-fried oysters as surprise amuse bouche and that was a first. Thank you so much! (Ps: Do not miss ‘Much ado books’)

There was a copy of the daily mail on offer and that felt unnecessary. Also, a footnote to say that the shower temperature was quite temperamental.
