The breakfast was beautifully cooked with quality ingredients and generous portions - worth the extra charge! Staff were welcoming and helpful. The restaurant was excellent, serving delicious food to a high standard - the cheese board was exceptional. Generally, the hotel is very characterful and steeped in history. It is centrally located. Our room was quiet and spacious, overlooking an attractive cobbled courtyard. The bed was very comfortable. Parking is to the rear accessed via a one-way street. Interesting church and National Trust house are within walking distance, both are worth visiting if you like history.

Nothing to dislike.

one whole day I did not have hot water, staff said there was a boiler issue. did not have hot water to shower or shave, from early morning to late afternoon, had to use the tea kettle to heat water to shave for my daily meetings. requested a concession and consideration on my hotel rate for that day. Reception said that they would bring the issue up in the next staff meeting with management. John Ridley my stay was from March 2 through March 10, 2025

Easy check-in. The bedroom & bathroom were large. Evening meal on the set menu was delicious - best calamari I have ever tasted. Staff on check-in and on evening meal were courteous and helpful.

Up & down of numerous flights of stairs to get to & from room (and I was only on the 1st floor) but understandable in a hotel of its historic age. It was a hot night, unable to initially open window due to the noise of people sitting & drinking in the court yard - aircon would be a major help. Whilst the breakfast was tasty the time it took to receive was long - there were only 4 of us in total in the breakfast room (and disappointingly to receive incorrectly to what I ordered). The flies flying around and landing on me in the bar and the restaurant during the evening.

The friendliness and professionalism of the staff: from reception; those involved in getting beverages and cake for afternoon tea/coffee; the restaurant staff for our lovely evening meal. The comfort and cleaniness of our room. I single out Sam for special mention. Although she was busy with tidying the reception area; she attended to our request for tea, coffee and cake straightaway. We felt welcomed and that our request was no bother at all. Her attitude and professionalism deserves to be recognised and commended by her managers. Thanks Sam! :-)

Late at night/early morning singing and shouting from people on Grantham High Street (no doubt from those leaving the nearby pub). However, we recognise there is nothing that the Angel and Royal can do about this.

You turn off the busy high street and enter an avenue of wonder. Little doors and subtle Christmad lights made it feel like I stepped back in time. Lovely setting . The smell of woodsmoke and comfortable surroundings plus the gorgeous alleyway provide a unique welcome. Staff friendly. Sumptuous bed and very comfortable. Thoughtful additions like pencil and paper, a table and 2 very comfortable chairs. Lots of touches to make guests welcome.

Curtains covered radiator, so had to raise them to get any heat. The room was cold, which was not surprising given we were in the midst of a cold snap, but staff provided a storage heater when I explained it was cold. Still went to bed with cold hands and feet. Heated towel rail on bathroom not working so after a shower guests shiver before diving under the duvet.

After a few weeks of travelling, we decided to upgrade our room on arrival so we could have a bit more room. Due to the age of the building, each room is very individual. The team showed us options for an upgrade, which was really lovely. The room we chose was spacious and comfy. Navigating to the hotel was easy. Parking was no trouble at all. The bar and restaurant were nice too.

4pm check-in. This was quite unusual. Everywhere else we had stayed this trip was 3pm.

The location was perfect being near a wedding venue we were invited to. The building was fascinating ,a very old coaching inn. Lovely old reception areas,and an ornate dining room.Super wall displays and artefacts. Our reception was very friendly,the staff uniformly charming. Our bed was so comfortable ,and despite a little expected clatter from people below or in the town,slept soundly. Our bathroom was roomy and elegant.Staff had thoughtfully placed a large fan in the room.We loved the original sash windows. We took breakfast.The staff in the dining room so attentive, breakfasts super. The central courtyard was a great place to meet our family who joined us at the hotel,and we enjoyed a pleasant drink out there.Again,delightful staff. The stay here,plus a family wedding to attend made for a fantastic weekend.The staff ensured we had one room ready for our family to use before the wedding(@£40 extra),and placed us close together.We really appreciated this attention.

Ah,well.For our room rate I would have expected a fridge.There was the usual cupboard for one beneath the kettle. There was no inclusive of breakfast option,a room @ £142 would imply this.One of the party was paying more for a similar room.Breakfast @ £18:99 was delicious and good value ,in a super setting too. We thought everything a little too expensive,and if guests use a third party booking service,are charged £4 per night parking.

Fantastic, historically interesting building. Attractive decor with luxurious and comfy furniture. Lovely, well stocked bar and really welcoming staff. Fanciest dog friendly bar we've ever been in (normally it's obvious you've been put in the doggie corner!). Very pretty outdoor courtyard with plenty of seating and tables, fairylights and plants. Gorgeous! Food unbelievably good (dinner and breakfast). We'd only booked as a stop off on a long journey, so we had no expectations. This was so good we'll be returning 'on purpose' as soon as possible! Brilliant car park, too.

Bedroom clean and comfy. However, the quality of the food, the great service from the staff, and the lovely bar and courtyard areas were so A* we didn't want to spend much time in the bedroom anyway!

We had two flat tyres that meant we had to stay overnight in Grantham. First time ever here and we were pleasantly surprised. We learnt that Sir Isaac Newton lived here in his youth for four years! The hotel has history dating back to the 1600s or so. It has lovely decor with lots of character and that old feel. Room was very clean and priced reasonably. Bathroom was really nice and spacious. We were very impressed with Yorkshire tea in the room and we even had biscuits and water bottles. Breakfast was served until 9/9.30am so we missed it but it was priced at £17.50 so we did have doubts about having breakfast here. We used the bar downstairs and loved the beautiful relaxing courtyard. We would stay again.

Charming, well equipped and comfortable. The location is great. The staff are excellent and the restaurant is outstanding. We will definitely stay there again.

For first timers the car park was difficult to find. Once you know , it is spacious and convenient. Explicit directions and photos on your website would be useful. There was a lovely ornate mirror above the bathroom sink but the lower scroll work had collected a large amount of dust and dirt which was right in our eye line when using the sink. Such a shame since the room was spotlessly clean otherwise.
