they are making a real effort to create somewhere different. the inn is centred around a yard covered with a tent like shelter creating the most wonderful "inside-outside space. the food is good and the drinks served with a smile. we are a little old to stay up for the lively music scene but thoroughly enjoyed the ambience.
nothing to dislike. we were very considerately warned that there might be noise from the bar on a Friday night but we found it nothing to worry about. if you don't like "quirky" you might not fully appreciate the decor. we like "quirky", so we did.

THIS IS A VERY QUIRKY PLACE AND YOU CANT STOP LOOKING AT THE DECOR. BREAKFAST WAS OK, LACEY WAS EXCEPTIONAL VERY HARD WIORKER, HOSTING, CLEANING, COOKING SERVING
STEPS WERENT BAD BUT MY MISSUS WAS STRUGGLING HAS SHE HAS A STICK AND THERE ISNT ANY DOWNSTAIRS ROOMS, BATHROOM WAS SMALL, AND THE SHOWER WASNT GOOD FOR A FAT LAD AND LASS, BUT WE GOT IN.{not together}. THE LOO BRUSH COULD DO WITH A NEW ONE. IT CAN BE NOISY, BUT THATS TO BE EXPECTED AS IT IS A PUB. AND DID EXPLAIN THAT BEFORE BOOKING.

Perfect place for us. Nice place for a drink. Room was clean and well done. Breakfast was excellent.
The staff were quite ignorant. Asking for ice to be added to MY pint of cider, resulted in her taking the pint and tipping some away ( I had just paid £7 for it ) to fit the ice in. I mentioned it to her, but was met by a cold stare and then some chat between her and her colleague. Any way apart from the staff, the place was very good and I would definitely stay again, I just wouldn't ask for ice.

A very quirky pub, full of character with well appointed rooms again with loads of character. Room was spotlessly clean with lovely quality toiletries and a good tea tray. Breakfast was exceptional. Our television wasn’t working and we were offered another room which we declined but did enjoy a complementary drink. Staff were friendly and helpful.
The bed in room 3 was terrible, mattress folded in half when slept on and was saved marginally by a very thick mattress topper. However this did not enable a good sleep at all. Mattress needs replacing asap! Such a shame as we would have given a ten otherwise.

Breakfast was great and the lady that looked after us was a credit to the Hotel - friendly and helpful. The staff were all helpful and accommodated our late check-in without issue. Rooms were quirky and individual, with a lot of effort going into the furnishings and finishing touches. We had a large double room with plenty of space, although another member of our party booked the twin room, which was a little tight for space and very dark with little to no natural light, but did not spend much time in there other than to sleep - just not great for getting ready for the wedding we were attending!
The only downside is the lack of parking and the noise early in the morning - but this is a town centre location, so is to be expected I guess.

What is to not like about The watergate yard, amazing , atmosphere awesome, staff very friendly and go above and beyond. Ryan, the owner (sorry we didn't get to meet Hollie), is very warm welcoming . Staff John and Hayley, great and fantastic hospitality, and nothing too much trouble. Rooms are very comfortable, and everything you need . Food is outstanding and really enjoyable, and compliments to chefs . The atmosphere and design of all areas were fantastic, artwork truly loved

The hotel was the perfect location for us as we were attending a wedding nearby. Communication was easy during booking and during our stay, accommodating our needs as we were a large group. Breakfast was good value with lots of options
The twin room was quite cosy for two people but the other rooms were a good size. The breakfast too slightly longer than expected however this was understandable as we were a large group

Great decor, loved all the little quirks! The facilities were good, and everything was spotless. The staff were so nice and went beyond to accommodate us, a group of us were here for a friends wedding close by. Wasn’t bothered by noise whatsoever (not open till late) and had a great sleep. There’s no parking as it’s in town, but there’s lots of places to park only a few mins away - we used sainsburys and paid £10 for the weekend.
Perhaps a tad dark in the rooms, maybe one of the walls or the ceiling could be a lighter colour to lighten it a bit.

The entire pub and hotel was fantastic. It was a little quirky but in a brilliant way. The welcome, check in and escort to the room was really quick, really organised and really smooth! The bedroom itself far exceeded expectations. So clean, so comfortable and so well decorated. The breakfast was excellent too and was delicious and very well presented. Really couldn’t fault the place and would definitely hope to stay again without any hesitation.
There was nothing I didn’t like. The entire trip and stay was perfect

Check in was really easy and we were able to check in a little earlier than advertised with no extra cost. The room was nice and well equipped with kettle tea coffee etc, iron, water bottles. The breakfast included in the price was excellent - served in the pub below.
As this is a pub there is of course a little bit of noise, however we were out until late so didn't bother us.
