Room was: very spacious; bed large and comfortable; clean and tidy; Sea view was excellent (5th floor overlooking beach); The breakfast was excellent with a good range of food to choose from. Staff were cheerful and helpful. We used the Piano Bar menu rather then the restaurant, which was; excellent; value for money; tasty; well presented and served in good time.

The decor and carpets are in need of attention in the upper floor landings and stairwells. Unfortunately the stairwells were also very dusty and did not appear to have been cleaned during our stay, and a good while before.

We loved the size of our room and the sea views . Good choice of breakfast and nice dining room . Room service good . Beds made each day . Good room for small children . Parking spot next to hotel . We love staying in this hotel . It’s perfect for us . It’s not trying to be an up market hotel and the price reflects that .

Most areas are tired and need updating . Bathroom was very old and tired ( but clean ) . Does not smell good in some areas . TV and WiFi didn’t work but not an issue as didn’t need it . I am sure that there is further work planned for the hotel and we can’t wait to see the changes .

The size of the hotel and our room were huge. Maintained its beautiful Victorian atmosphere .lovely sea view and breeze through the big open windows. We were able to park right outside the front of the hotel for free. The staff were polite and very helpful. Our evening meal was very tasty and arrived at our table within minutes of ordering.

There was a lot of dust everywhere in the room also the windows were in need of a good clean.it would have been nice to be able to see out of them probably. In saying that it must be a Mammoth task keeping this gigantic building clean. The only thing I thought should have been dust free was the portable fan in the room it was absolutely filthy.

“I was staying in Victoria Royal Hotel in many occasions while I had training in Hastings. The Hotel is located at the seafront and has a beautiful sea view bar lounge, dining and rooms. It’s a perfect and popular location for swimmers, joggers, cyclists and has a lovely promenade all along the seafront. There are plenty of free parking spaces at the back of the hotel and a lovely peaceful hidden garden. There are also yoga classes within the hotel for extra charge but there is no need to book, you can just walk in for your convenience and the classes are adapted to individual needs from complete beginners to more advanced. The hotel is decorated in a traditional Victorian style and the rooms are all very spacious with high ceilings. Always fresh crispy bedding (I had some issues with others B&B around Hastings in this matter) so now I always stay only here. Very polite and helpful staff. Lovely breakfast in the morning looking at the sea.”

The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The hotel has a quaint air of nostalgia and some real history. I can't help but image what the hotel and St Leonards would have been like in its heyday when the royals visited, but it certainly feels very different (pleasantly so) from the usual large hotel companies. The staff here are not robotic helper, rather they genuinely care about your comfort, happiness and wellbeing... highly recommended.

Clean the windows - I had a sea view through a haze of dirt from the main road - which incidentally is very busy. Of course, the hotel was built 100 years before cars were even around.

Lovely old building but more could be made of it. We had an issue with our room but staff were happy to act on it and move us to a different room. This was an upgrade to a sea view, which we appreciated. I think it's a shame that this lovely old hotel isn't invested in fully, it looks and feels dated and shabby, but not in a good way. It could be amazing with a lick of paint/a good carpet clean/losing the horrid net curtains! It was comfortable, staff were welcoming and helpful, I would have liked to have had breakfast in the dining area as it looks out into the sea, but our itinerary didn't allow for that. I would recommend this hotel, but don't expect too much if you are used to the finer things in life. That said, I'd stay here again, as the staff were great and the en-suite bath was lovely and deep!

We had a suite with sea view which was exquisite. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was superb Sofa in lounge part was past it's sell by date but everything else fine. Breakfast was excellent with attentive staff. Restaurant food was good although staff were rushed and bar staff had no idea! We put this down to being Christmas Holiday and realise nobody wants to work those days. The ones that did were very friendly but overwhelmed. Getting a drink at the bar was a test of skill as staff were very young and wrapped up working the till and ignoring customers. Again we accepted no one wishes to work these holiday shifts. All in all we had a splendid time and will return again.

Not sufficient staff for the number of guests. Boxing evening the afternoon tea things had not been cleared as waitress was rushed off her feet. However they were very friendly and tried their hardest.

Loved the history associated with the hotel stunned it dates from the Victorian period, which is very remarkable and is in amazing condition considering its age. The room was very spacious and the beds were very comfortable making for a lovely night's sleep. The food in the restaurant was very delicious with a wide variety of food on offer and booking a table was very convenient and straightforward. The food at breakfast was self service so very easy to get what you wanted and also when you wanted at your own leisure and pace. The views from the room itself were amazing out to sea and some of the best of any hotel around. The staff were very pleasant and helpful making the stay all the more pleasant.

I chose a room with a sea view, and that is exactly what you got, a full sea view, as the promenade is just across the road Self Service Cooked Breakfast buffet, was very good, and the dining room also has the sea view. Restaurant staff respectful, kind and helpful. Dinners were also very good. Nice quality shampoo and gel. Iconic hotel where Queen Victoria stayed as well as other royals in the heart of the Burton, the architect's, St Leonard's with lovely park behind and seafront in front

2 items listed as being available were not actually provided: biscuits and slippers. Not a big issue, but in my view the room should be at least as advertised. As documented, car parking limited, but streetside is free, but space may be a bit of a walk away and up the hill.

The breakfast was good but would have liked to have seen options for Vegetarians/Vegan on display or a board to ask for our vegetarian options. Plain yoghurt as well as there was only flavoured….peach and apricot was the only flavours. Location was absolutely lovely.

There was a slightly musty smell in and near the lift….it might have been coming from laundry cages which was close by but I feel this could easily be dealt with. The hotel does need a little bit of care and attention but I love the old style the hotel portrays.
