I stayed for two periods -- 12-17 May and 19-20 May 2025. The room I had for the first stay (Room 31) was excellent, reasonably spacious and with a magnificent view. I was initially told I would be in the same room when I returned on 19 May. Unfortunately that promise was not broken and when I got to the hotel on 19 May I reminded them of the promise but was told Room 31 was not available and was given Room 19 instead. That was nowhere near the same standard - small, pokey and with a view only of the car park at th rear of the hotel. I would have been very disappointed to have been given that room for my first stay.

Only what I have mentioned above. I had breakfast in the hotel every day, which was excellent. I had dinner there on five nights. That was very good too.

This was my second visit to Mallaig, and I really wanted to stay at the West Highland after hearing great reviews. They weren't wrong. Great location on the hill overlooking the ocean, friendly staff, amazing food, terrific atmosphere, and the room was very comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

Wasn't a negative for us, but the hotel has no elevator. We were on the third floor, and I could see how the stairways could be a bad thing for older folks or those with mobility issues. I'm sure the staff would have assisted with bags if we had asked. The only other item of note that could be perceived as negative would be that the shower is quite small. I am 6'3" and 250 pounds, and it wasn't the most comfortable experience. That said, it wouldn't dissuade me at all from booking another stay at this fantastic hotel.

Friendly staff, very easy to find and close to bus, train. The view from my room was spectacular

Dinner was good until a gentleman showed up and used his phone with video at his table. It was o disruptive and changed the whole ambiance of the space. Tourists or not,maintaining the space for all to enjoy would be the best. One person changed it for everyone in the room. I guess we are getting use to this entitled behaviour - I hope not - it old be way enough to request patrons go to the parlour, their room, or outside away from guest to ensure the pleasure and hotel experience is maintained. By having it stated makes it easy to implement for all staff-ensuring the mood and ambiance of the hotel and restaurant is consistent for all guests.

a wonderful view but think too expensive . This hotel needs a lift very badly - reasonable room but TV on ceiling not good and although reasonable size room for a single it needed some drawers or shelves for personal stuff. There was some hanging space but rather high up like the mirror in the ensuite. The expensive charge for the room should include breakfast . When I had breakfast it was very good with a very wide choice HOtel had a good facilities and bar downstairs. staff very good and helpful.

No lift . TV impossible to watch as too high up and not easy to get extra tea bags and milk etc

The location is fabulous with views across the water. The staff were all lovely and the room was spotless. Lots of parking available although a short walk from the train station if you don't have a car. The outdoor seating area is fantastic. The food in the restaurant was delicious and a very tasty breakfast is available.

The room I stayed in was a bit tired. The heater available was very old and didn't fit with the style of the room. For the price I felt the double room was basic but had a fabulous view. I was disappointed in how tired the room was and the quality of the fixings compared to other hotels I have stayed in with a similar view and a similar price. That said, it would not put me off returning.

Excellent room with a view over the harbour. Nice bed; slept very well. Restaurant very good indeed; super food. Not cheap but good value in my view. Staff generally very good and delightful. Superb view from the hotel terrace. All in all, an exceptional stay in what I would consider the best hotel in the town. Reception staff were outstanding; most helpful and pleasant.

Some of the waiting staff were a bit inexperienced but well sorted out by the principal waitress. Very much busier the second evening. Access is an issue for those less able. A steepish hill to climb to get to the hotel. A series of steps to negotiate to get to the terrace and then more steps to ascend to the reception. I was on the 2nd floor and there is no lift. The young lady on reception carried my case up to the room with ease and a lovely attitude. This issue goes with the topography of the town but those less physically able should be aware.

Wonderful! Very close to Glasgow Queens St railway station, shopping mall, Sainsbury’s. Newly renovated building interior & apartment with a modern finish. Spacious room with fully equipped kitchenette, 2 seater lounge, very comfortable double bed. The apartment is exceptionally clean. Very good light with big windows & efficient blinds. The stairwell /stairs also well lit & very clean.

When booking, it wasn’t clear that the apartment was on the second level with a lot of stairs. There is no lift in this building. This information needs to be written in bold lettering. Getting to the apartment would be a challenge for people with health issues & heavy cases. The buildings in Nelson Mandela Place are numbered in a random fashion, so a single door to the apartments is easily missed. Perhaps a photo of the location next to the other businesses would help.

Excellent seaview from the bedroom Description was 'cosy double room' but there was ample space with a large shower room. Breakfast was amazing Evening meal in the Terrace Restaurant was equally good with sea views Staff were friendly, kind and helpful After checking out we were able to wait for our ferry in the lounge Good parking Near shops

The atrocious weather and not knowing whether our ferry would run as the 6 ferries before ours had been cancelled. Thankfully the service resumed with ours as there was a small lull in the wind speed, enough to get a ferry across.

One night stay after a week on the outer Hebrides. Great place to unwind for a night before our onward journey home. Room had a great view over the bay where the whales and dolphins were playing. Good food in a very light and airy conservatory-style restaurant, also with panoramic view of the bay. We intend to incorporate the West Highland in our next foray north.

Alarm bells rang at check-in when the receptionist was diverted for 10 minutes to deal with a room cleanliness complaint from another guest, but we needn't have worried - our room was spotless

The location of the hotel is superb with far reaching views across the sound to Skye and the other small isles further out to sea. The welcome was prompt, warm and friendly and you could tell the owners had paid a lot of attention to the room. It was modern and comfortable with every convenience needed. Dinner was tasty and enjoyable with spectacular sunset views of the sea and the sky to accompany our meal. I'd recommend the West Highland to anyone visitng Mallaig, it was excellent value.

There was nothing we didn't like.
