We loved the history and character of the property and our room. We loved the size of our room and the comfort of our bed. And we thought the staff were excellent, friendly and courteous.

The bathroom door was concealed into the wall making it very heavy to open and difficult to enter up two wooden stairs. Unfortunately after using the bathroom for half an hour, I forgot about the two stairs out of the bathroom and had a nasty fall hurting myself significantly. I believe that a little sign on the inside door saying “mind the steps” would have avoided this incident. I had difficulty walking for two days after this fall.

We stayed in the Abbots room, it’s a very good sized twin room, decorated well for the period of the property. Small seating area. The room overlooks the beer garden and cricket pitch. The beds were both cosy and comfortable. The room had two good sized bottles of water, a coffee machine and kettle. The bathroom was absolutely tiny, but understandable given the grade 1 listed status which no doubt prevents any modifications to enlarge this. That being said, it contained everything needed and the shower was nice and strong.

The bathroom door squeaks loudly. We did mention this to the staff, but it wasn’t repaired whilst we were there. The re was also a noisy pump in the store room below, this woke us the first morning. We mentioned it to the waiter at the evening meal, and it seemed to have been switched off as it didn’t waken us the following morning. The hospitality from the Inn in general was of a high standard. The food and drink were excellent, we were even provided coffee for our onward travel.

Loved how atmospheric it was. Very clean. Our room was bright and airy with a lovely view across the fields and church. We entered our room to low classical music which was a lovely touch. The beds were super comfy too. The shower would be a bit on the tight side for the larger traveller but it was very clean. We booked a table at the inn for our evening meal which was delicious, and we were given a complimentary drink. Wednesdays also allow for 25% discount on food if you download the butcombe app. Breakfast lovely too! No problem with parking either. Overall a great stay!

It’s a beautiful, old building tastefully renovated to a high standard. Has such an interesting history in a lovely location. Twenty minutes from Bath, where we spent the day. Allows dogs & has a great outside area for warmer days. My family stayed in 3 rooms which were all beautifully furnished with antique furniture & quality decor & bedding. We all love our food & we’re not disappointed (won chef & pub of the year) Although it would have been nice to see more gluten free & veggie options. Delicious choice of breakfast as well. The staff were all so friendly, especially Holly behind the bar. Can’t praise it enough, excellent value for money, highly recommend.

An incredible, historical old inn to stay in. Our room was beautifully presented, and spotlessly clean. Two mini bottles of prosecco was a lovely surprise (for my partner's birthday). The inn has a fantastic outside terrace area at the back with a lovely view - perfect for warmer weather, when it comes ! We ate in on our 2nd evening of our 2 night stay, and the meal (hake) was absolutely delicious. Clearly made by a chef who knows their stuff ! Breakfasts were really good too. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Norton St Phillip itself was an unexpectedly pretty village, and a delight to walk around.

Unfortunately our room was situated above a kitchen / utility room of some sort, which had equipment running all night, which was a bit noisy. Earplugs were provided in the room, but even using those, I did wake in the middle of the night feeling hot, and then took quite a while to get back to sleep due to the humming noise from below. My partner felt she could have done with something to hold onto when stepping out of the bath / shower.

This place is amazing, so old and full of history and yet so beautiful. We had a lovely twin room for our girly trip and it was perfect for us. We were greeted on arrival with free, complimentary drinks at the bar. We had a delicious evening meal in a comfortable and relaxed dinning area. The staff couldn't have been nicer, they were so pleasant and so attentive it just made our stay even more special. It's a 10/10 for the customer care given by the wonderful staff. I took lots of photos of this fantastic building to show my partner how awesome it is and I can't wait to return with him for another stay.

There is nothing to not like in my opinion.

Its history was unbelievable, the oldest pub in the uk. Coming from Oz we found it awesome and a privilege to stay with Linda and her team. Thank you Ian for helping us with our luggage and all the staff who were so friendly. The breakfast was delicious too and the welcoming drink was much appreciated.

Nothing, just wished we could have stayed longer. Next time we promise we will.

Everything was a delight 😁 from the moment we arrived and were offered a complimentary drink, till we entered our room and soft classical music greeted us inside ❤️ Breakfast was excellent and delicious. The town 's location is perfect as it has a direct bus service to Bath. The unique historical aspects of the architecture is a special treat. We felt like we had discovered a gem 💕

The front door to our coach room was quite low as was one beam over our bed, so anyone taller than about 5 ft 8 would need to bend to avoid hitting their head😉 a minor inconvenience given the charm of the Inn.

From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty. We arrived really early so we. Had a delicious lunch while waiting for our room. Nothing was too much trouble. The young man who checked us in carried me bag upstairs, we stayed in the Abbot room. He explained everything to us and left us to settle in. We’re REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE REFIT AND HOW SYMPATHETIC THEY HAD RESTORED IT. Loved the old books scatted throughout the rooms.

Nothing; however the coffee machine did get the better of me.

Characterful historic building. Thoughtful and pleasant staff, Lola in dining room, Oscar at check in and older gentleman on check out. All very helpful. Took food intolerance seriously . Beer was good. View from terrace overlooking country church. Meals were good

Room too dark to read except in bathroom! Too many plastic plants, leading to there being a shortage of useful surfaces to put things on. Heating didn’t work when we arrived but was seen to by staff help. Good to have fresh milk provided in room , but as no fridge, keep it so.
