Accessibility by public transport: Accessible, but not great. The place is a short walk from one of the bus stops nearby. However, to go into Oxford (or come back), you will need 2 connnecting buses. When we visited Oxford, a bridge close to its tube station was undergoing repair and we were informed that we had to deboard on one side of the bridge and wait for buses on the other side. Bus services can be quite erratic in Oxford and that only adds to the difficulty. Rooms and facilities: Great! The room and washroom were sufficiently spacious and well supplied. My partner particularly loved the quality fo the toiletries. Food: Exceeded expectations! Well, have you seen the conversation between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt comparing American and British food? Bear and Ragged Staff have me siding with Emily Blunt. I wouldn't go so far to say British food is better, but I can confirm that the Bear and Ragged Staff's menu and execution is exceptional. Staff: Great! They are nice, friendly and helpful. If you need anything, just give them a shout.

Unless you are nitpicking, its hard find fault with the Bear and Ragged Staff.

Our room was very spacious & well equipped. The choice for breakfast each morning was excellent & all food is cooked to order so very fresh. The dinner menu was superb & over the course of our stay we tried most choices and all were fabulous. The staff were great and most helpful - a special mention to Ruby who is a credit to the establishment We were aware that the building is old and that there were narrow stairs up to the room but this was not a problem (staff more than happy to assist with suitcases) - its all part of the character of the establishment The Bear & Ragged Staff is in a lovely village outside of Oxford and although we didn't have a car it's only a short walk to the bus stop and the service is very regular We would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return again in 2025!

Nothing - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Arrived early and was met by fabulous staff who were so friendly and went out of their way to let us check in, offered advice on how to travel in to Oxford and where to find a decent atmosphere for watching the rugby. Room was spacious, neat and tidy, very large bathroom although the shower made a whistling noise when turned on. The room was up a very old, characterful staircase that would be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues or was drunk! Breakfast was leisurely, varied and enjoyable. Would happily stay there again and recommend it - the highlight really was the fabulous staff.

Everything about this hotel was amazing. The staff went above and beyond. Very friendly and thoughtful. We slept in a beautiful room that was spacious and comfortable but continued to have the old world charm we were looking for with modern conveniences. The food was really delicious, reasonably priced and great drinks. It's obviously used by locals and their pups which we loved to see. We weren't right in Oxford but within very easy distance either by car or bus and we used both. It's a really beautiful town and one of our favourite places to stay in our 7 week holiday. They have a few sister pubs in other towns and because of the good experience at the Bear and Ragged Staff we had lunch or dinner there. They were really good as well but this was the best.

Not being able to stay longer.

The hotel had its own parking lot which was important for us as space is often at a premium. It's several miles from Oxford and there is nothing much to see or walk to from the site, but it was a perfect spot to stay for a night while visiting Oxford. Our room was on the top floor and the doorways were about 5'9" so I had to duck a lot and hit my head some- so that roo, though beautiful with exposed beams and a first class bathroom, would be better for shorter people. We also ate at the facility and the food was good.

Everything was fine, really. Having a restaurant and attached pub that were open almost all the time, made it convenient to be in this small commuter town.

The old architecture, preserving the past, very large room above restaurant/ pub, very quiet and comfortable though, cute decor, large bathroom, outstanding breakfast and lunch, free carpark behind hotel in courtyard and in the street, accommodating staff at breakfast and lunch in terms of meal modifications and nice-smelling Christmas tree in front room to entry room to breakfast area, efficient young man serving at lunchtime.

Nowhere to sit whilst checking in and going through safety protocol in case of fire despite explaining how tired, kitchen a little slow despite 6 kitchen staff. No modern area above carpark in back for pool.

We had a lovely stay. We were in room 9 and the only problem was the low beams. Which are fine if you remember to duck. OK if you are not too tall! Huge bathroom with a big bath and shower. Drinks in the bar a couple of nights. Staff very good in the bar and restaurant. We went to Farmoor reservoir which is down the road. Car needed to get there due to lack of pavements. Cumnor is a lovely village. You can get the bus into Oxford quite easily from the pub. Food was good but we found the menu a bit small on Saturday evening. Friday evening we had a lovely meal. Breakfast was really good. Lots of choice and good quality food.

The low beams as my partner kept hitting his head. Apart from that the stay was great.

Food is incredible (the restaurant is packed nightly so just be careful with parking if you drove.) Staff is SO nice and willing to do whatever they could to help. So picturesque for cocktails in the garden and very quaint small town fibes in England.

This is not the hotel's fault, but a major road into Oxford from Cumnor has been closed for a year plus, which made driving in around Oxford take longer than the map estimations that we looked at before we came. Windows in our room were relatively small which made cooling down the room more challenging than we expected.

Location was great for what we wanted, a short drive to lots villages. The pub and restaurant were great, we stayed for 2 nights and ended up eating dinner on both nights at their restaurant. The breakfasts were really good. The staff could not do enough for you, really helpful The room was a great size, comfortable bed and not stingy with the selection of teas coffees hot chocolate and biscuits

The bathroom was a little tired, the extractor fan did not work and the temperature control on the shower was temperamental. The parking was not great, we had to park on the entrance to the cricket club one night.

We loved our stay in Room 9. The room was a cosy room with a massive modern bathroom while still keeping its rustic charm. The atmosphere was lovely with lots of people there for just afternoon drinks to celebrating a baby shower. We had both dinner and breakfast and were happy with the quality of food provided. The location was just what we were after. Close to Oxford but not in Oxford. We had taken a walk after the rain and we found that there were lots of local residents doing the same and they were all very friendly - one even stopping to chat for 10 minutes. I highly recommend this accommodation.
