Welcoming and Dog friendly, though the area for meals with dogs in attendance a little impractical, as the area is just 3 tables very close together in reception. The outside seating/bar area is excellent.

Having to pay extra PER DOG. It doesn't cost more to clean whether you have one or two dogs. Mine are never loose in the room, but Crated. It adds quite a lot of extra cost for no actual facilities, though there were some dog biscuits provided this time. There is no designated dog relief area. As there is a per dog charge, a designated toiletting area would be good. At present the only option was to use a nearby street/verge some way away.

Staff was so helpful and friendly, and the room was very clean, so spacious and nice it was a superior family room. our dog was well prepared and catered for. Our autistic, nonverbal child treated kindly and indulged. My food intollrences catered for (so far as the dinner menu allowed), but especially by the very knowledgeable breakfast staff. Especially one lovely lady who herself suffers from intollerences and was sharing and kind. Having a young child, we didn't experiment with the bar experience. We would not hesitate to stop off here again.

There are no sockets near the bed, and i have a cpap machine to keep me breathing in the night and couldn't plug it in, so I went without it. Leaving me restless and lacking meaningful sleep, even though the bed was comfy. This, in turn, meant I couldn't do my share of driving the next day. It was hard to find the back entrance where the car park is and the 3 large laps we had to do to find it, did seem a long drag in the dark and in the fog and lacking local knowledge so the swan sign needs to be bigger or illuminated please and that's literally the worst I can come up with :)

We have stayed at the Swan several times and it is always good. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The location is excellent, being right in the middle of Stafford High Street. You can always park if you have a car, it is a very short walk from Stafford train station if you travel by train. The food is always good and the bars are well stocked.

The only thing I always find at the Swan is that the staff are often very slow to serve you, whether that's on reception, in the bars or in the restaurant. They can also be less than friendly. It's a shame because everything else is great.

I had a mix up in my booking which would have meant I would have paid double and the staff went out of their way to assist and they sorted it out. it was a real "can do" attitude which I did not experience at booking.com! I had to work whilst and my room was really well laid out for this and there were areas around the hotel to work which were comfortable and peaceful when I got cabin fever. I will definitely stay here next time I'm in Stafford and will look at other hotels in the group in future.

The hotel was a little difficult to find, I phoned and a member of staff directed me to the car park. The hotel was very clean and the room was large and comfortable. My room overlooked the high street and there was a lot of noise until the early hours from passing by after a few drinks but the hotel can't be responsible for this, it was just a little unfortunate. The price for the double room was more than some other hotels but it was worth it as the room was very comfortable, would have been nice if the very tasty breakfast was included but it was worth paying for so can't complain. If I was staying in Stafford again I'd definitely go back to the Swan :-)

A little pricey and breakfast took a while to arrive, there was a little noise from the street

I stayed in a single room. The room was cosy and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the room was cleaned every day. I personally loved the radio in the room and biscuits every morning with a welcoming note on the table. I thought it was a lovely welcoming touch on my arrival each day. We had dinner each day and the food was lovely. Couldn't fault anything. I would happily come back again.

I didn't like that the hot breakfast was served from 8 a.m., even though the breakfast time was from 7 am. For people who stay for business purposes, it's a bit late waiting until 8 am to be served cooked breakfast.

There were people talking loudly below our room late night and at 6 am .. looks like it is above staff area so needs more sound proofing to be perfect.. Although the menu offered df and gf options and had foods without g listed on the codes very few of them turned out to be actually gf or they didn’t have availability. The serving staff were lovely and what we had was delicious but some improvement in what is available for people with allergies is necessary.

My room (single) was not very comfortable: the radiator was on all night - fine, except it was near the head of the bed so I was very hot. Ended up sleeping with feet at the head end. Mattress also pretty uncomfortable. More seriously (and this is common to many hotels) the shower was over the bath, so you had to climb in. But there were no wall rails - I felt very nervous climbing in and out. Finally, at 72 I had real difficulty lugging my suitcase up the flight of stairs outside my room - the lift didn’t travel to the upper part of the 2nd floor. Another guest helped me.

It’s an historic building with all the charm and sense of history that comes with that.

It’s tired. I appreciate that it must be difficult to make ends meet, but there was a sense of cost cutting - gadgets and furniture needing updating, small portions in the restaurant (half a slice of black pudding, and they ran out of beans for the breakfast serving). The location is as good as it gets in Stafford, but in modern Stafford the Swan is no longer in the beating heart of a thriving market town - not the hotel’s fault, but it changes the ambiance for the worse.

The deco was very well done, with lots of different seating areas & little nooks. Staff were very polite & welcoming. Whilst we waited for checking, we enjoyed some croissants that are served with jam & proper butter. We also had a pot of tea that came with a small pot of chocolates for us both. Room smelt so lovely & was clean & comfortable. A good selection of teas, coffee & hot chocolate are available as well.

There was no plug on 1 side of the bed, but that's totally understandable as it's an old building & and there are plenty of other sockets available. This is the only bad point I can think of & it's not even a real problem.
