This is a classic pub on the outskirts of a town which possibly not a lot of people visit. However, despite this, and the quietness of the area as far as visitations are concerned, you cannot imagine a more relaxed stay. Sadly, no food for the evening but breakfast was quite good.

My room faced the busy road between Grove and Oxford, a 50-mph road, which can be noisy when in the rooms facing in that direction. This could be compensated for by closing the window which dulled the sound. In my case I sleep deeply so the noise was not a big issue for me, but I could see it being an issue for others.

The room was clean and well furnished, staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. If we are down that way again we would consider staying there again. Nice vibe in the pub, looks like a good selection of drinks. We didn't eat or drink there though. The staff were very kind to let us check in so early.

Only problems we had were that they seemed to have an issue with Booking.com as they didn't respond to any of our messages and couldn't see if we'd paid or not. So we rang them which was fine. And we had proof of payment on Booking.com. Their website says they serve breakfast on a Monday and that their kitchen is closed on a Monday so it would be good if they removed the bit about breakfast being served on Mondays. Two pretty minor things to be honest. Apart from that it was great.

Nice warm room, comfortable bed and the shower (whilst small) was warm and powerful. We will book again when visiting family.

TV aerial connection was loose, meaning many channels were not able to be viewed. Draw below unit below tv was broken, but we didn't need it. Possibly leave more tea and coffee in the rooms, particularly a decaffeinated option.

The Volunteer is in an excellent position both for drivers and for those travelling by public transport. It’s just outside Grove on the main road from Wantage to Abingdon and Oxford and very close to the route to Didcot. The staff were superb, particularly a young woman called Vicky (I hope I have the correct name!) who welcomed me and was there one other evening. All other staff were just as friendly, accommodating but still professional, an excellent mix. I also had a superb quality shower and a generous sized en suite bathroom which was a pleasant surprise.

I would have liked to be asked if I’d like breakfast in the morning. I wasn’t even made aware of the serving times and so unfortunately missed what looked like a very tasty full English Breakfast.

Good size room with nice decor, great shower, fabulous breakfast. The staff were all friendly and provided helpful local info re taxi companies to use. A minor glitch with a non-working tv remote was quickly sorted out.

The main radiator in the room (room 5) didn't come on for some reason. So used the portable heater but it was chilly weather and this wasn't quite enough to warm the room through.

We chose The Volunteer purely for the location being opposite the venue for our meeting the next day. Staff were super friendly, parking easy and the rooms perfectly adequate for our stay. We didn't spend much time in the pub, so not tried the food and had to leave early before breakfast.

Nothing to dislike.

Breaskfast was great. better than expected after reading reviews on other sites. a great choice for a breakfast menu. compliments to the Chef.

Although the bed was clean and comfortable. the overall cleanliness of the room could of been better. All the staff where very helpful and accommodating.

All in all our stay was fine. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Décor in room very tasteful and cleanliness faultless. Breakfast was one of the best we have had anywhere. Location for our venue could not have been better. Would recommend and definitely stay again. Well done.

Surprised by no mattress cover on bed. Would have liked shower gel and shampoo to be provided. TV in bar did not work.

Lovely welcome by staff. Accomodation very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was beautiful. Freshly cooked to order.lots of choice.

No food served after 3pm. As I was working I didn't check in until 5pm. Then had to drive out to find somewhere to eat. I was told I could order a delivery but that's not what I wanted.

Loved the owners! I felt like I met some new friends. I was made to feel so welcome and we had some great conversations. This was my favorite of the other two places in which I had stayed. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! I felt sad when I left because you were so wonderful to me!
