The dinner was wonderful. Some of the staff were really switched on, others were not.

No hooks for outer wear by the door so they had to be thrown over the chairs. That made the room look untidy. Also instructions re the airconditioning and the tv would have been useful. It turned out that the aircon didnt work and so we had to rely on the central heating. I didn't like our room not being tidied every day. The bed was not turned in properly, and the cleaner left her duster behind, so untidy on their part. I didn't like that we had a downstairs room overlooking the bins area and carpark but the room was gorgeous. I was expecting something overlooking the cathedral.

Fabulous location for visit to Cathedral & Bishop's Palace. A lovely old hotel with good modern facilities. The heating was superb keeping the bedroom very cosy. The room was a good size as was the bathroom although the latter had a few issues. More than adequate storage in the bedroom and bathroom. The staff were wonderfully cheerful and helpful. The room had lots of extras from usb sockets to an ironing board. The car park was both excellent and a challenge. It was possible to park there on each night - but it was at capacity, The food was outstandingly good and very well presented though a little too salty for our tastes.

The menu remained the same for all three nights - although it was very good. There was no phone in the room (useful in an emergency) . The shower had no hooks and no shelf so even the shampoo had to sit on the floor. Could be easily fixed.

Location, close to everything. We did feel however, that breakfast was rather overpriced. Continental choice was very poor, compared to what we have experienced in other hotels. Good selection for English breakfast, so we ate that. All staff were lovely and friendly.

Cannot complain about the car park, as it is a very old coaching inn. We did however have to cut our days a bit short, in order to make sure we could get parked on our return. At check in time, 3pm, it was usually pretty full. If one just wanted to look around the city and the cathedral leaving the car all day in the parking area, it is an excellent choice, due to everything being within a couple of minutes walk. A lovely quiet town in the evening too, early April, maybe its busier in Summer.

The noise from the high street from deliveries both early morning and late night, also from the bars emptying at night as we were place in rooms that were the old ‘Star Hotel’ which we didn’t realise they now own too. Lights didn’t work over bathroom mirror so difficult for my partner to shave or for me to put makeup on, reported it to reception but told they were aware and couldn’t fix them. No shelf in the shower so shower gels had to be kept on the floor. Door to room had large gaps at the bottom so allowed noise from hall to penetrate the room.

The character and location of the property are fantastic. The room was a good size and nice and clean and tidy.

Only a couple small points. I had tried to call ahead to ask about parking as I knew it was limited but couldn’t raise anyone on the phone on the few times I tried earlier in the day. In the end we just parked in the public car which is no big deal. We weren’t given much choice of time for breakfast the following morning because it was busy (also fine) but we ended up with a later time and most of the cooked breakfast had gone and when asked was told, what’s there is it. There were other choices but it just didn’t feel overly accommodating.

All staff were friendly and welcoming, check in was completed quickly. Our room (53) was of an excellent standard and spotlessly clean. The public rooms are bright, comfortable and decorated to a very high standard. The bar had an excellent range of wine, and a special mention for the barman, Kyle, who made amazing cocktails. The food and service at dinner was excellent; as was breakfast which consisted of a hot and cold buffet and also dishes cooked to order. The hotel has an excellent central location. Well worth a visit.

Just take care as you enter the car park, as this is an old inn the entrance is a little narrow!

The information the hotel sent before arrival was informative and useful particularly about parking. We had no problems parking and the access was better than expected. On arrival the receptionist was on the telephone and the young lady from the bar kindly offered us a drink while we waited which was a nice touch. Checkin was easy as I had completed the on line check in prior to arrival. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the room with a large sitting area with desk, easy chairs and TV. The bedroom area was equally a good size. The bathroom was large and well appointed. Everything worked as it should and the bed was big and comfortable. If I was really picky the room was initially on the cold side but it warmed up well with the heater that was already in the room. After settling in we went down for a cream tea but was informed that the chef had gone home but the same young lady persuaded one of the managers to make us a cream tea which was delicious. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the first evening and again found the staff welcoming and helpful. The food was very good and we enjoyed it and the wine. After a good night's sleep we partook of breakfast which was the expected buffet type breakfast which was a combination of continental and traditional English cooked breakfast and there were extra items available on request and other dietary requirements were catered for. After a morning walking around Wells in the cold we returned to the bar for a drink before going out to eat. We also ate out the second evening because the hotel restaurant was fully booked although the staff did try to switch things around to fit us in but couldn't at a time that suited us. The second breakfast was as good as the first and checking out was easy when we finally left. Overall a very enjoyable stay which was enhanced by the staff's cheerfulness and attention. They truly have the customer comes first attitude.

this is my 4th time of staying since November and as always the hotel rooms were lovely, bedrooms and beds so comfy and staff are always so friendly and helpful. will be back again soon and recommended to so many to go and stay there. also love how easy to park there and the great location for pottering around town and having a relaxing break is perfect. ive stayed in 3 different rooms now and every one has been so clean, comfortable and cozy. My favourite room is the cathedral suite which is just such a special place to relax and recoup in and the bedroom, lounge area and fabulous bathroom are all amazing!

All very good, however menu a little disappointing but very nice what was on there.

Reception staff, waiters all very polite, friendly and professional. However the two bar ladies on duty on Saturday 25th evening upset me. My sister went up to the bar to ask for advise re restaurant. She said hello to the two ladies working, they completely ignored her carrying on with their conversation. One walked away and the other one turned her back on my sister and finished drying a glass, placed it on the shelf and then turned around and said can i help you. My sister didnt say anything but i was watching from our table close to the bar and thought how very rude of them to ignore her and not even acknowledge her with ‘i’ll be with you in a moment’. I

Really good that breakfast was optional (although £15 quite expensive?) as we often like to try breakfast at local cafes. Excellent that there was an electric car charger - although only one. Bedroom was okay with a comfy bed, coffee machine, tv, iron and ironing board, bath with shower over. Good heating - which was needed in late November. Bar was comfortable with good service. Hotel location is excellent - right next to cathedral.

Some water damage on ceiling of bedroom. No acknowledgment when we left the hotel - no 'have you had a good stay?' 'safe journey' etc despite there being 3 staff present and no other customers. Car park seems quite small for the size of the hotel - although we had no problem getting a space midweek in November.
