The location was wonderful, the staff were very friendly and professional, the room was excellent - very comfortable, clean and a great size. The food (dinner and breakfast), beer and wine were all top notch, in fact it's hard to mark it down on any aspect.

There was naturally some noise from the bar, which was directly under our room, but it wasn't too loud and stopped around 22:30.

room was located on first floor which was ideal for me as i have walking difficulties.breakfast had lots of selections so no problem there. location was excellent as on the main street and right next to cathedral.Loved the market on wednesday and hotel kindly kept something i bought in their fridge till i went home.Staff were really lovely.

car parking is a real problem as there are only 7 spaces and if you do not get one parking is not on the main strip and would have been difficult for me as i am disabled and it would have been a long walk.luckily we somehow managed to get a spot each day we were there so everything turned out fine

Even before coming to stay at the Crown staff were able to assist by measuring the size of the bathroom to ensure it would fit our dog crate. On arrival we were warmly greeted by Miranda who showed us a map of the local area to assist with getting our bearings. The room itself was so snug and comfy and a great size too. The room was stocked with hot drink making facilities, a hairdryer and had little bathroom toiletries too. We booked for the evening meal which was delicious, made the mistake of going elsewhere the second night, so the final night we booked again so we knew we were going to have a lovely meal. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and staff were eager to help – Sasha was sad our babies didn’t attend the breakfast as they would have been provided a meaty treat! From our base at the Crown we were able to drive to some great places for days out which included Glastonbury and Cheddar. We had planned to stay our final day in Well itself and had the bonus of the Saturday market. The Crown is well positioned in town to ensure the dogs got a lovely walk past the castle each morning and evening. The only downside is the lack of parking – which is NOT a fault of the Crown itself and they are only too eager to support you to find other places to park which are easy to get to. We loved having a drink in the bar which was used for Hot Fuzz and it was great to see that it was full of both locals and those on vacation. All the staff were very friendly and helpful but Miranda and Sasha need a shout out for their conversation and banter! We will certainly be coming back to the Crown in the future and would highly recommend this to others.

Just be mindful of parking but this is NO reflection on the Crown.

The Crown’s location is perfect for a trip to Wells: right by the market and a stone’s throw from the cathedral. All members of staff that I encountered were friendly, welcoming and helpful. As a solo traveller I felt very much at ease. My room (15) was on the second floor. It was spacious with a brand new en-suite shower room. The bed was extremely comfortable and storage for clothes was basic but adequate. Breakfast was good with a self-service continental breakfast and/or a freshly prepared cooked breakfast that was very tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would return.

There is very little parking and access to the car park is difficult. Having driven in and found that there was no space and with no room to turn round, it was tricky to reverse back out. In the end I had to park 10 minutes away in the long-stay car park.

Hotel is smack in the middle of town, so perfectly located for the main attractions (cathedral, Bishops' Palace etc). Parking easy. Staff are great, so cheerful and kind. Apart from this, the local authority should be ashamed at the way it seems to neglect Wells which is shabby (the famed Vicar's Close needs rescuing). Wells could be a jewel in the south-western crown; it has so much going for it, especially its people. Eating out? Has to be 'Roots', just a few minutes away - largely vegetarian but fabulous.

Hotel was fine - needs serious remedial work in places but reminds one of an old coaching inn: very busy, people coming and going, a cheerful bustling presence in the heart of Wells.

Wonderful, truly historical hotel - Built in the Year1450 no less - filled with genuine features by the bucketful... If you love oak beams, leaded windows and "real Old English " vibes ? Look no further. Warm, welcoming staff, great quality local produce for breakfast and good selection of ales in the bar. Wells is obviously a tourist destination, and that was reflected in the variety of nationalities in the hotel. For the film buffs amongst you, it features heavily in the classic Brit comedy, "Hot Fuzz " where "The Crown at Wells" becomes... "The Crown at Standford " ! Staff in the real location know quotable lines from the film.. marvelous !!

on site Parking at the hotel is a little limited - which, to be fair, the hotel pointed out to me when I booked. There is, However a Council run car park at the bus station, about 8 minutes stroll away ( that the hotel staff directed me to, complete with a very good printed map) which is free from 18.00 until 09.00 the next day - Tip : if you pay for 2 or three hours at the end of the day, the ticket machine takes the free night time period into account, and rolls your payment over... I paid £1.80 late in the afternoon I arrived and was good in the carpark until 10.58 the next day, so nice late breakfast and couple of hours extra Zzzzzz.

The food was excellent and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Also, the location couldn't be better - the hotel is right in the heart of this beautiful old town, only one minute's walk from the magnificent 12th century Cathedral and Bishops Palace.

My room, (No 15) on the top floor, was quite dark and would benefit from having another table lamp. The car park at the rear of the property is limited to seven modern day cars. Whilst this is understandable given that the building dates back to medieval times, the instructions of how to find, operate and walk back from the nearest municipal car park need to be much clearer especially as it still requires one to have a mountain of pound coins and has a strict limit of three hours from 0900hrs.

Full of character. Great central location BUT beware Wednesday which is market day and makes access to the Crown very difficult on a first visit. Remarkably quiet and well soundproofed for an ancient building. Excellent top notch breakfast. Cooked to order. Large pot of lovely HOT tea.

The bed in my room (see photo on website) was metal framed and made the most dreadful squeaking and jangling with every move! I hope they don’t give this room to young energetic couples!! On-site parking is small and awkward but there are cheap car parks a couple of minutes away. South Street is best.

The hotel is right in the centre of town and conveniently located near Wells Cathedral and the shops of the city. The staff are genuinely concerned about your comfort and are very helpful and friendly. We had a dinner in The Crown pub which was outstanding and well priced for the filling meal received. We also had the hotel breakfast booked with our room which was both delicious and filling, again with plenty on the plate and great portion sizes. Our room was cosy, warm and quiet, very well designed and with all the amenities you would expect.

I'm really nit picking here but the only thing that got to me was the wonky toilet seat in our en-suite shower room.

The location couldn't be better - right in the centre of the city and, as I arrived by bus, very easy to find. The room was larger than I expected for a single, but was quiet, cosy only some of the decor needs a bit of attention. The bed was very comfy and warm, but a shorter person or someone with mobility challenges, would have found the height a bit tricky. A small step/box would help, I was fine. At breakfast, I was satisfied, only I wasn't offered tea nor was it freely available. The selection should have been wider for a 4* hotel.

Nothing really, just a few changes (see above). I had a lovely time.
