Staff friendliness, games room, proximity to wookey hole attraction and Wells. Food was cooked extremely well and very tasty.

Would recommend only staying as a family, if you're after a quiet hotel or quiet meals then this wouldn't happen. Food choice is small but perfectly acceptable and cooked lovely.

After reading the mixed reviews, I was skeptical. Though thankfully, our stay was mostly postive. Located right on location of Wookey Hole Caves, the hotel provides a basic but comfortable stay at very good value for money. Inside, rooms are equipped with bed linen, towels, bath mats (on request), a tv, kettle, tea/coffee supplements and mugs, comfy beds, shower/bath with hair/body wash. The restuarant/breakfast area is of adequate size, and the food is excellent. For those with children, there is a small games room located on the ground floor, with board games available from reception.

An issue highlighted by most, and the one which made me skeptical, did prove to be an issue for us. With July being a hot month this year, the lack of air conditioning meant that our room was very warm and stuffy throughout our stay. With the windows only opening so far, the air wasn't able to circulate properly. Installing an A/C unit into each of the rooms would prove far more benefical than just offering a limited number of fans, which by the way, only circulates the humidity [already] in the room.

The room was exceptionally clean and the beds were very comfy

Could have done with a mini fridge to keep your drinks chilled. Breakfast was appalling, after waiting for approx 10 min for sausages was then told there wasn't any and to have extra bacon, not exactly the response I would expect, the breakfast set up is dysfunctional for the amount of guests using the facility. As we had not booked in for an evening meal I asked if it would be possible to order a Pizza for my grandson and was told they could not do it as I had not booked in and was advised to go to the local pub or order on Just Eats/Uber

Convenient location for Wookey Hole caves (a one minute walk if you go slowly!). Big free car park. Big rooms and comfortable beds. Decent sized bathroom. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean. The games room was a nice addition and we enjoyed playing air hockey. Breakfast was OK, good for meat eaters but very poor provision for vegetarians - but you could have as much as you wanted, all self-service, and there was toast and jam etc.

The room was quite hot and there was no aircon. We had to have the window open at night and unfortunately we were right next to a boiler or extractor which was noisy through the night. Soundproofing between corridor and rooms virtually non-existent. Although it was a fairly comfortable stay, it was not a restful one. The restaurant is alright but it's very over-priced for basic foods. My pizza was supposedly speciality mozzarella and oregano and it was actually cheddar. Local ham I think was from the local SPAR. But it was ok and it was convenient. The second night we ate at The Wookey Hole Inn over the road and that was vastly superior food. The coffee at breakfast was AWFUL. Even the sachets of nescafe in the room were better.

The room was excellent, plenty of hot water, a very comfortable bed. Tea and Coffee provided with a kettle with milk and sugar. The room was serviced every day including clean towels. The food was good and reasonably priced, we don't drink that much alcohol but again the prices were good. Right next door are the Wookey Hole caves, well worth the guided tour.

The only aspect that fell short was the gluten free/dairy free options were just the standard meal but with items removed, ie: no sausage for my wife at breakfast, even though you can buy meat sausages with no wheat, No cheese on the Hunters Chicken even though again there are alternatives, no pitta bread for the Curry we had on the final night, again alternative's are available. Gluten free bread was available for toast though, along with dairy free spread. We spoke to the Manager as we left just to point these things out and he welcomed our views and told us they were changing the menus and that would be something they want to cater for. (Sorry, I have the memory of a goldfish and can't remember his name). Hopefully they can offer real alternatives rather than just remove items.

We stayed here during the week, outside the school holidays in a quiet time. Our room was clean, bright with 2 sets of windows that opened, so plenty of fresh air. The bed was very comfortable. The grounds are very peaceful. Wookey Hole is a very small village, with a pub and a club (tourists welcome). We visit the area yearly and used to stay in Wells, but we found this much more peaceful and will make this our base for our future visits to Somerset. There is a nice nature walk (the west mendip way) to Wells, which takes about 40 minutes.

Unfortunately all the rooms have a bath, so if you prefer a shower, you will have to stand in the bath. No glass partition, but a shower curtain which tends to stick to you ! There is no convenience shop nearby. But Wells is only a short drive away. As mentioned, we were here in a quiet time. It may not be so peaceful in the weekend or school holidays. But if you come here for the caves, I'm sure thats not a problem.

The staff were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. They couldn’t do enough for us. The hotel was brilliantly clean and the games room was a fab addition. Breakfast was very tasty, and the staff were constantly filling everything up. It was very hot the time of year we visited, but there was a fan in the room which was great. There were chargers by the bed too. Excellent value for money

One of the games in the games room wasn’t working, and neither was the claw machine, but this didn’t detract from our stay. I would have preferred tomatoes at breakfast and one or two more “healthy options”, but for the price, it was excellent

Room: Comfortable, well - lit, nice, big, clean towel. Excellent tea/coffee supplied. good TV. Good view out of the window. Dinner; we both had steak. We were served by a charming member of staff..... indeed, we thought all the members of staff who looked after us were pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast; simple, and quickly served. Just right.

Room: I was in Room 12. V.nice and comfortable but I had to spend some time swatting house flies ! Perhaps having `swatters` in the rooms during summer would be helpful ! Dinner: we much enjoyed our steak but it did take over half an hour between ordering and arrival - we weren`t in a hurry, so it didn`t upset us. The food was excellent.

Free and easy parking is outside the hotel, unfortunately I stayed over a bank holiday when the bus service into town centre didn't run. Parking in Wells city centre can be expensive and not well signposted imo. The hotel is a good base for activities in local are. Beds really, really comfortable. .....filling in the booking.com review form is a pain on the app as you don't seem to be able to edit stuff and summit easily

I had an accessible room (not sure why ?) ie wheel chair wide space and low sink on ground floor and no round sink storage so facilities not that OK for me as I'm tall lol and only bath not shower but I must have missed something when I did the booking months ago

We arrived early and our room was still being cleaned but there were tables outside where we could sit and wait. The weather was lovely and there was a whole field of rabbits behind us. We were upgraded to the Witches Hat Suite which was a lovely surprise. The staff were so friendly, the suite was clean & comfortable and it was well placed for the different areas that we wanted to visit. The Witches Hat is a perfect suite for a couple, it's small but so well laid our and the shaping of the inside is so well thought out. Expected canteen food in such a touristy hotel but was pleasantly surprised by well thought out and well cooked meals.

There wasn't anything that we didn't like.
