Room was massive, hotel was a really nice old building. Receptionist was lovely. Hotel was miles better than I was expecting from some of the other reviews and really good value for money.

Some of the corridors could have done with a bit of a spruce up, but the room and the main areas of the hotel were nice and the stairway/reception area was very characterful so not even that negative tbh.

On arrival and at breakfast, the staff were friendly, courteous but also professional. Our room had a wonderful sea view and was clean and comfortable. There was a hospitality tray including tea, coffee, mineral water and biscuits.

Our room was on the second floor, which was difficult for both of us as we have mobility problems and had to use the stairs. The lift was being worked on which we feel should have been pointed out when booking. The hotel was obviously also undergoing major renovation works as there was scaffolding erected, which again should have been mentioned at the booking stage. However, there was no disruptive noise that affected us at all.

The location was fanastic the room we eventually got after the first two nights was located on the front with a wonderful view of the sea, coastline and Abbey.. Initially the room allocated was not what we had booked and paid Booking .com for. I requested a change of room after the weekend and thankfully we were moved to the front into a twin next to our female companion, The meals at the restaurant never failed to delight as each evening a new main course was tried and the quality was excellent. The staff on reception were very effecient, friendly and helful, the bar and restaraunt staff also gave a first class service. The hotel is currently going through a tranformation and modernisation programme when completed, with the service and quality it should recive a 4 star rating at least. The is a small beer garden at the back facing the car park. Very nice area and a sun trap when it is out.

We were informed on arrival that there was no lift. The old one kept breaking down and management took the decision to have it replaced. Installation hopefully will be completed by the end of September. Reception however were very helful and all our bags were taken to our rooms. Car parking outside the front can be hit and miss regarding space during the summer. A car park is available at the back with an overspill. The charge currently is £6.00 per night. For Whitby however that is very reasonable.

The reception staff were very helpful, in what can only be described as a very challenging period. The facilities at the hotel were somewhat restricted as it is undergoing a major refurbishment and in addition the lift is currently out of action. This means that if you have a room on the 3rd floor, you need to ascend and decent 74 steps in each direction. We were warned about this situation in numerous emails and phone calls. Being reasonably fit it was not too much of an issue for us, however not every guest was as fortunate as us. Some don’t seem to of received the same messages as us, which to be honest, I don’t understand, maybe they just wanted a discount.

The location meant that if you wished to visit the town / quay, a good number of steps needed to be traversed, could be an issue for some.

Liked the location, a good pick up point for the Whitby Tour bus. Evening meal in the restaurant , The Fat Badger ,was lovely. Most staff very happy and smiley and pleasant. Bed very comfortable

The lift is out of action (which we were advised about prior to travel) however , being on the top floor ( third floor) was sometimes quite a challenge . A dirty towel was found behind the bed on the first evening. The room only half serviced on one of the days. The room looked very tired and dated, however, the rooms are apparently, gradually being updated Bedside lamps on both sides of the bed ,but only one could work ,the other the cable and plug could not reach the plug socket

The staff where all friendly and helpful.. the location was great... I've stayed a number if times in whitby...this was by far the best hotel...and will be returning...The food in the restaurant was second to non..with excellent service.

The car parking situation...I had requested...however you need to book or reserve car parking prior...which is not advertised on booking.com... however there is parking at a nearby leisure centre..To be fair to the hotel the regatta weekend is a very busy few days.. the hotel was at capacity...with the staff going the extra mile.. With a future booking I'd take this into consideration...I would also go again for longer after refurbishments have been done... as scaffolding blocked sea view...and the lifts where out of use with refurbishment.. with a small dog and cases this could have been very problematic... if it wasn't for staff again...our case was brought to the room ...when they don't have concierge..and they located us on the first floor.

We have been to Whitby before and had a meal prior to all the refurbishment. It looks lovely and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. We love the location on West cliff. Obviously under a lot of improvements at the moment .

We were aware of their being no lift because we had been emailed .And we didn’t have any mobility issues as such.3 Floors later and after all the steps getting back to hotel( I wonder about other residents). We also had plumbing issues which I had to report to reception. We were out most of the day so only needed to use this a couple of times a day but it was embarrassing to tell the Reception.

It's a very big hotel and has several bars, a big restaurant. The restaurant had a reasonable menu with daily specials. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. It has a car park to the back with reasonable charges. We went with a motorbike and were given several choices to designated spaces for motorbikes

The room we had was very small with a double bed. You literally touched the TV to pass to get to the toilet, and also, I kept hitting my toes to the bed as the space between the door and the bed was very narrow. The toilet door is almost touching the bed unless you pay for a superior room, you won't get a spacious room

We stayed in a brand new room so was absolutely thrilled. Lovely modern 4 poster bed and decor beautifully done. Huge bed and really comfortable. There is some renovation work going on but this did not interfere with the stay - a lift I believe. So if you don’t mind the stairs it’s fine as we were on top floor it didn’t bother us and our views were stunning! Breakfast was fine - my only critique having to give a time to go to breakfast however I know this is done to ensure no one is waiting to be seated. Staff very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommend

The room was nice and big and the bathroom was lovely and warm, The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of places to sit with our friends in the evening, we didn't have to sit in a busy, noisy bar. The breakfast on the first day was excellent as we could order what we wanted because the hotel was quiet. It was a buffet on the second day but that was pretty good too. The view from our room on the top floor was excellent and it only took 5 minutes to walk down from the hotel into the town. The private car park is great tooo.

I specifically asked for a room with a bath when I phoned a few days before we arrived but it was a room with a shower cubicle. By the time we'd carried our cases a long way almost to the end of the hotel, I didn't feel like carrying them back down to reception to ask to change rooms and as the room was very nice apart from that, we stayed put.
