Room was massive, hotel was a really nice old building. Receptionist was lovely. Hotel was miles better than I was expecting from some of the other reviews and really good value for money.

Some of the corridors could have done with a bit of a spruce up, but the room and the main areas of the hotel were nice and the stairway/reception area was very characterful so not even that negative tbh.

The room was nice and big and the bathroom was lovely and warm, The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of places to sit with our friends in the evening, we didn't have to sit in a busy, noisy bar. The breakfast on the first day was excellent as we could order what we wanted because the hotel was quiet. It was a buffet on the second day but that was pretty good too. The view from our room on the top floor was excellent and it only took 5 minutes to walk down from the hotel into the town. The private car park is great tooo.

I specifically asked for a room with a bath when I phoned a few days before we arrived but it was a room with a shower cubicle. By the time we'd carried our cases a long way almost to the end of the hotel, I didn't feel like carrying them back down to reception to ask to change rooms and as the room was very nice apart from that, we stayed put.

Room upgraded to nice sea view,large and comfortable if a little sparsely furnished,very warm throughout stay during very cold weather,bathroom with large shower was fine if a little cool as no radiator other than heated towel rail.Breakfast choice was fine,staff throughout hotel friendly and helpful

Hotel does seem to be still refurbishing some areas but did not affect our part of the hotel or dining/bar areas.You have to be careful with on street parking near the hotel as some areas are free 31st October to 1st March but others still require disc to be purchased,however the signs are good on each street and road

Hotel situated in an excellent location, with stunning views. The staff were brilliant. We were upgraded to a spacious room with a sea view, free of charge. The hotel had secure parking at reasonable rates. This was booked prior to our stay. The breakfast was fine with a good selection of cerials and fruit etc, plus the full English option.

We were on the 2nd floor and had a lot of steps to deal with to get to our room. This was due to the lift being out of action during the ongoing renovations to the hotel. Not a problem for us but could pose a problem to those with mobility issues. The hotel is currently being renovated and work is taking place throughout the day. However it didn't affect our stay too much as we were aware of this prior to our booking.

I was a bit apprehensive about staying at the Royal but I needn't have worried. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean with lovely comfy beds. OK, it needs refurbishing but I wouldn't say that spoilt our stay at all. We were informed rooms are gradually been refurbished so that's good. The location was brilliant, just minutes away from the Whitby pavilion where we attended an event. If you booked a sea view room the views would be absolutely outstanding given it's elevated position. The reception staff were lovely, friendly, professional and welcoming. We didn't eat in the hotel so I can't comment on that.

It wasnt a problem for us but it is a steep walk up from the harbour which might be a problem for those with walking difficulties. It's only a ten minute walk though.

Lovely hotel. Good location - right next to the whale bones, so had a lovely view of the sea and the Abbey. It was nice to sit in the bar area with these views. Bonus for the veranda that included blankets for the chilly nights. This is an older hotel with features that match this but this just adds to the charm. Room was clean and a good size. Bathroom was spacious and clean. During our stay there were works on the lift. I was made aware ahead of my visit with an offer to support with any mobility needs whilst the lift was out of commission. The works were well managed and didn't disrupt my stay. Staff were all friendly, approachable and genuinely helpful.

Minor - The bed could be more comfortable, but it wouldn't put me off recommending it or staying here again. Had to think hard for something I didn't like!

Excellent location...lovely view.... I have a lactose intolerance so emailed the hotel a few days before to ask if lactose free milk was available..( can't take, oat,soya,rice etc..) or could I bring my own.. was assured it would be in my room for me but no..so had to ring down,...however, staff were very nice each time...also, room was cold so staff brought me a radiator... Really enjoyed visit,

I was in room 234....next door(233) there was a very loud vibrating hum going on all night..kept me awake...mentioned to staff next morning & hum was much quieter after that..never found out what it was tho 🤣

Staff were really nice, helpful and friendly. Food was delicious. We stayed for 2 very cold days in February and our room was so warm after bracing cold sea air. The hotel is being updated but we never heard any work noises. Floors are really creaky but it's an old building and again we never heard anyone else, in fact felt like we had the whole floor to ourselves it was so quiet inside, more than I can say for the seagull outside the window one morning, ha ha. but that's not the hotels fault. Would recommend and would stay again. Hope they keep a lot of the old style features of the hotel.

It's on top of the cliffs, so not good if your unfit like me and have to walk up from the rail station, but I managed, and I would go back again. The creaky floorboards walking along the corridoirs to our room, felt like we were making loads of noise. Other than that nothing really bad to say. We enjoyed our 2 night visit. Oh and the one old lift that only 2 people can use, but I'm sure they'll update that?

The hotel was very nice. Everything was easy to find: restaurant,toilets,reception. The staff on reception were helpful when we needed things sorting. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We asked for a sea view but were pleasantly surprised when that view also included whitby abbey, harbour and whalebone arch. Everything we went for was visible from our window. The breakfast was very nice and the dining room was a pleasant place to sit and eat.

We booked a double room but upon arrival we found the beds were still set out as twin beds, this was quickly sorted,,once we contacted reception and they sent 2 members of staff to make it right. We ordered an evening meal and waited over 40 mins, when we questioned it we were told the order had been lost and had to order again. The staff were pleasant and extremely helpful to remedy any issue we had.
