Location

Rooms, pillows and linens definitely had seen better days. Bathroom needed better cleaning, found few hairs in the sink and bathtub upon check in, parking should be included in the price.

The woman at the front desk upon arrival was Super Friendly and got us into a better room on the 2nd floor so that we would have a better view of Marina. We loved the location, and the free breakfast and coffee was definitely a PLUS!!! Loved the view of marina from our room. Will be back!

I moved from that area 4 years ago and I have the best memories of the Marina life, restaurants, etc ..I was super sad to see all the construction and not much left. The weather was rainy and dreary, but that's not anyone's fault there. Still a great stay. Hallway noise is really loud even if people were quiet. Can definitely hear anyone just walking down hallways. I did notice the room needed to be cleaned a lil bit better...all the edges around the carpet were filthy dusty. It was obvious the rooms were cleaned, just no attention to detail of baseboards, behind furniture etc. Maybe housekeeping needs better vacuums, I dont know. It wasn't a deal breaker for me to return, just something that really stood out.

This is a great location with good walks around quayside and up hill into the shopping/gallery Del Prado Avenue area. A small beach is nearby, and whale watching trips leave from near the hotel. Restaurants nearby are to suit all pockets, but a couple are very expensive. Good value for money, but parking is $15/day for the week I stayed. Helpful, very friendly staff.

Weather too cold for pool, better luck next visit. I've stayed several times before, the breakfast has gone downhill, now with no eggs, bacon, etc. only cereals and the waffle-machine's Teflon surface did not release the waffle. Many guests had dogs - I didn't like the thought of them having been on the carpet-flooring (next time I'll ask for a non-dog room, if they exist).

The staff, location and property are wonderful. Very comforting.

We have been coming there a few times every year. We have money to stay in higher end hotels but we always choose this place. The area is beautiful, the patrons are so friendly, the shop owners in the harbor are amazing. What I don’t like is they are going to blow this whole place up and commercialize it, obstruct views and completely ruin the charm of the harbor. There aren’t many places like this left in California and now they are going to ruin that as well. Go to Newport if you want that atmosphere.

The breakfast was good, lots of options comparable to other hotel free breakfasts I've had. The location of the hotel is it's biggest asset, being on the harbor where the Catalina Express is located is the biggest draw for me along with all the restaurants within walking distance. Very convenient

The hotel rooms could use an update. it's beginning to show the age of the hotel, just general wear and tear. The curtain rod in our room no longer had the wand attached, and the light filtering curtain was no longer there, so the room darkening curtain had to always be closed for privacy.

Staff is fabulous. The location is perfect.

It is dated.. Which very OK with us the newer properties are very expensive and not affordable to us. Dana Point is going through a renovation. We really liked the old town that it was. We are aware that the prices will be going up and we may not be able to afford to come here in the future. As long as this, Hotel is still standing it is in our budget and we will continue to come.

i called the hotel the nite before arrival and i spoke to Shannon.she took care and interest in our personal needs.when we arrived Shannon greeted me at the front desk and she remembered me from the call the nite before.she was concered that the other person with me would be in a room near the elevator since he had issues with walking a long distance...Shannon made our stay much better..i wish more front desk personnel were like her! i will stay here again because of her.the location was ideal.we were going to catalina the next day so it was conveniently located near the dana point harbor.

there was nothing go dislike

You cannot beat this location if you're in Dana Point for the excursions. There are so many restaurants, shopping, and activities all within walking distance. You don't even need a car if you don't mind the exercise. The view is great and the atmosphere is very relaxing.

We didn't realize the breakfast has changed. Last Fall we were pleasantly surprised with the hot breakfast of all the basics plus eggs, meats, tortillas, etc. It was perfect and such a great value to save money on a full breakfast. This time we showed ready for the same - but there wasn't any eggs or meats, just all the breads, waffles and fruit. It is all nicely laid out if you like that sort of thing, I just want the eggs and meats. My husband grabbed a coffee and we went to a nearby restaurant. ($$$)

Such an amazing location, right in front of the harbor. Walking distance to restaurants and even Baby Beach is just a half a mile walk away. There's a heated pool and jacuzzi and breakfast as well. Staff is friendly too. Our room was so spacious, felt like a one bedroom apartment, since it had a small kitchen, dinette table, living room and separate bedroom. This is our 2nd time here and we'll definitely be back.

Better breakfast maybe

The location is incredible, right next to the Marina. There is a delightful little area with a bakery, cafe, lunch spot, and little touristy stores across the street.

The room was huge (by NYC standards at least), but very sparsely furnished, just a bed, couch, tv stand and desk. The bathroom could benefit from some shelves or surfaces to put toiletries on.
