The hotel was one of the cleanest hotels I've stayed in. There was not a crumb of anything anywhere in the room or hallways. I'd stay there again just based on that. The staff was polite and accommodating. Gave excellent recommendations on dining and activities .

I have never before been personally victimized by a shower head. I can say with the utmost certainty that that thing is a menace to society and must be stopped. Having to shower with my eyes closed because of a constant fire hose force of water from every direction was not a new skill I had planned on mastering at 46, but here we are. That being said, this is an easy fix and would not stop me from staying there again.

The front desk gals were friendly and helpful. Our room had a nice spacious feel and a balcony. When I stepped out onto it, I could see a portion of the Bay beyond the rooftops and trees that were my immediate neighbors. Those trees and Spanish Moss that grows on some of them are part of the charm of Pacific Grove and I felt welcomed by my surroundings. We had a little trouble with our fireplace, but the front desk gal came up right away and took care of the issue. One log was provided each night of our stay and it was a lovely touch.

I can honestly say that I was pleased with our stay. The price was more reasonable than other places I’d researched or stayed in. Though I did not use the pool, a number of the visitors did and the pool looked clean and well tended.

The room was larger than expected. It was comfortable and we had the nice ambiance of a real fireplace/fire. It was fairly quiet... the restaurant across the street had live music for a while which wasn't our taste, but it ended after 7. We did have a great 'dog' at that restaurant... their menu of hot dogs is unbelievable. Also great ice cream. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special. No meat. Just convenience items.

Bed wasn't the most comfortable but not awful either. Sliding door did not lock going to the balcony. Breakfast was less than expected with no meat/no waffle maker (we've gotten spoiled with having them everywhere nowadays.)

Friendly staff and clean facilities. Weather was too cold to even try the heated pool, but the hot tub spa was very nice. Conveniently located, you can walk down to the beach easily.

Room cleaning was set for every third day instead of daily and we were confused on which day counted as the third day. After the third day from arrival (arrival +3 days) we had to request room cleaning after being out all morning. Fresh towels were available at the desk as often as you wished but still something nice about returning to a freshly cleaned room daily.

When I booked this stay, I wasn’t sure how satisfied I would be, given that the photos made the hotel look quite old. However, after staying for two nights, I have to admit my concerns were unfounded. The staff were friendly, and although the rooms were a bit dated, they were very spacious and comfortable (we even had a fireplace with a complimentary log for each night). The pool and hot tub were clean and well-maintained. It’s also located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We had a pleasant and restful stay!

Preferred to have more breakfast options - both mornings the buffet was the same.

We booked Monarch Resort for a family event in early June, 2025. Its a pleasant motel property in Pacific Grove. The room was clean and sufficient. I liked the fireplace with a free zippy log in the room. The property is a little older/dated but well maintained. The continental breakfast was nice and plentiful. The motel is in a neighborhood with some other inns/motels nearby. There is a bar across the street but it closes early (locked up and quiet by 10pm.) Staff was nice and inconspicuous. Kids were enjoying the pool.

We did a road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles via Highway 1 and we stayed overnight in Monarch Resort. The room is very comfortable, the room large - 2 queen beds, breakfast is continental. Coffee and tea are available inside the room. There is the television for my husband who cannot sleep without watching something. There is a vending machine should you need snacks. There is a receptionist in the lobby, even when we arrived very late - I think the receiving area is manned 24/7.

The restaurants are a short drive away, nothing within walking distance. At least when we arrived which was late already. The open shops and restaurants are at least 2 miles away.

Our third stay on a staycation. Unique layout with gardens in the hallways. We had a room with balcony and working fireplace with burn log provided. This actually was the lowest priced room. Short walk to beach, and close to all Monterey tourist spots. Nice pool and jacuzzi. Bed very comfortable, microwave and fridge. Excellent continental breakfast with croissants, boiled eggs, yogurt and more. We definitely recommend staying here.

The resort was obviously "The Place to Stay in Pacific Grove" at one time. And, although it is somewhat dated, it is very well maintained and clean. The breakfast was simple but did have what you'd expect from a continental breakfast. The service was excellent. The pool and jacuzzi were very nice. We didn't try the sauna, but we know others did so it's a welcome amenity. The resort is within walking distance of a restaurant, golf course, the butterfly sanctuary and the beach. It's a close drive to everything in Monterey and Carmel. The weather was perfect, but if you've ever been to Monterey, you know that's not guaranteed. Overall, we had a very positive stay.

We love the location, it’s so close to the Main Street in Pacific Grove and the beach and the hotel’s amenities like the pool, hot tub, sauna and continental breakfast, fireplaces in some rooms, balconies and free parking. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It feels safe, clean and well maintained. They’re always accommodating to our accessibility needs.

The pillows and bedding could use some updating so if you’re driving and able to bring your own pillows, I recommend it.
