When I booked this stay, I wasn’t sure how satisfied I would be, given that the photos made the hotel look quite old. However, after staying for two nights, I have to admit my concerns were unfounded. The staff were friendly, and although the rooms were a bit dated, they were very spacious and comfortable (we even had a fireplace with a complimentary log for each night). The pool and hot tub were clean and well-maintained. It’s also located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We had a pleasant and restful stay!

Preferred to have more breakfast options - both mornings the buffet was the same.

We did a road trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles via Highway 1 and we stayed overnight in Monarch Resort. The room is very comfortable, the room large - 2 queen beds, breakfast is continental. Coffee and tea are available inside the room. There is the television for my husband who cannot sleep without watching something. There is a vending machine should you need snacks. There is a receptionist in the lobby, even when we arrived very late - I think the receiving area is manned 24/7.

The restaurants are a short drive away, nothing within walking distance. At least when we arrived which was late already. The open shops and restaurants are at least 2 miles away.

The resort was obviously "The Place to Stay in Pacific Grove" at one time. And, although it is somewhat dated, it is very well maintained and clean. The breakfast was simple but did have what you'd expect from a continental breakfast. The service was excellent. The pool and jacuzzi were very nice. We didn't try the sauna, but we know others did so it's a welcome amenity. The resort is within walking distance of a restaurant, golf course, the butterfly sanctuary and the beach. It's a close drive to everything in Monterey and Carmel. The weather was perfect, but if you've ever been to Monterey, you know that's not guaranteed. Overall, we had a very positive stay.

Obviously an older hotel but well maintained. The outdoor/ indoor planters were a great retro touch. It was very clean and the room was quite spacious. The fireplace and complimentary logs were a great touch. The continental breakfast was good with a decent variety. I appreciated the real coffee mugs in the room. The staff were extremely friendly.

The only thing that I would call a minor inconvenience was no daily housekeeping, but that seems to be an industry standard these days. It is definitely not something that would deter me from staying again in the future. Also, a plain oatmeal choice would be nice option for the breakfast.

We love the location, it’s so close to the Main Street in Pacific Grove and the beach and the hotel’s amenities like the pool, hot tub, sauna and continental breakfast, fireplaces in some rooms, balconies and free parking. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It feels safe, clean and well maintained. They’re always accommodating to our accessibility needs.

The pillows and bedding could use some updating so if you’re driving and able to bring your own pillows, I recommend it.

Everything was clean and sanitary. Our room was spacious and was supplied with lots of extra blankets and pillows. The kitchen in our room was sanitary and was full stocked with kitchen essentials. The breakfast supplied was delicious and had enough choices it was good for everyone. Staff was helpful and quick to get us anything we needed such as fresh towels. The sauna restrooms, sauna and the pool/ jacuzzi were clean and kept in good condition.

Hotel staff were very accommodating. Samantha at front desk helped us out when we couldn’t get our fire log to ignite and then double checked to make sure we were happy. she went over and beyond and we appreciate it. continental breakfast is a nice spread with hard boiled eggs, instant oatmeal, muffins, bagels, cream cheese, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea and hot water. Love that there are trays to carry your breakfast to your room. And my favorite: the bathroom layout is perfect for two people to get ready at the same time! Two outlets - one inside the bathroom and one outside with the sink =genius!

Would love granola /cereal at breakfast. Need bigger matches for fire log.

Fireplace in the room with the wood provided and ready to use. The wintergardens in the hall. The sauna! Good abundent breakfst! The hotel is old but everything worked. Quite and relaxing atmosphere. The room was very spacious and cozy.

The showerhead in the bathrom doesn't fit the bathroom and is fixed in place leaving you unable to adjust the water without being actually underwater. If it's hot you have to jump out of the bathroom to adjust the temperature. The hotel is old and therefore a little shabby but nothing serious.

The continental breakfast had a great variety of items to choose from. The room had plenty of space to enjoy breakfast. Offering breakfast was one of the reasons I selected the Monarch resort for our stay. Many hotels in our price range have discontinued this perk. It made traveling with my elderly mom more convenient and a great start to our day.

The staff member wasn’t friendly or welcoming upon check in. Although she answered my questions she wasn’t warm and engaging. This wasn’t the customer service experience I expected.

As an older motel it is kept up quite nicely. The spacious room had all the amenities including a large refrigerator and a microwave which was something rarely seen these days throughout our travels.

The one major drawback was the continuous slamming of doors as people just aren't that courteous anymore. I wanted to tell the desk clerk that they should tighten up their door closers but I doubt that would have happened. I'm sorry to say but it is just for that reason that we will not stay there again even though it was an excellent all-around property that exceeded our needs.
