Everyone was amazing room was comfortable

I have been coming to drake and the Coq d'Or since I was 5 that I can remember usually around Christmas because of my birthday. It was always special, elegant,.I does not feel special or elegant any more. The drake it self use to smell elegance. It doesn't anymore. Just Very nice hotel. Not even Histoiric! Also disappointed in the bathroom so small could put make up and other things on sink at same time so small.

The service received the entire time we were there was exceptional. The food in the hotel as well as room service was amazing! My only regret is that I wasn’t aware of the High Tea and they were completely booked so I didn’t get to experience that but everything else great!! The Bell man, Floyd, went above and beyond, especially running to get my bags in the Lyft before they left. The view was amazing, bed was comfy, hotel was clean!! We will be back!

The last day we had no hot water as the boiler was down so we couldn’t shower before we left. Not a huge deal but a slight inconvenience.

For only $20 extra per night, we were able to upgrade to a larger room with a bathroom on either side. I wouldn't call it a suite, exactly -- the only chairs were the one at the desk and a small one wedged into an alcove near the closet -- but it had two bathrooms, which was hugely convenient. Also a plus: friendly staff, from the doormen and valets to the bellmen to the front desk. The Drake is a classic, and you don't have to explain where you're headed when you catch a cab.

As sometimes happens with older hotels, the plumbing was quirky -- and loud. The water temperature in one shower fluctuated during use for no apparent reason. In the other bathroom -- and again, hooray for having two -- the toilet at one point spit upward like a geyser. There were random audible gurgles from each, apparently in response to water usage in other rooms. For presumably the same reason, the geyser unit occasionally decided on its own to drain. There was almost an entertainment value to it all. Be forewarned that the Drake uses a peculiar numbering system for its rooms. Ours, 378, was the highest on the floor -- but it wasn't at the end of the hall. The numbers wrap around, so we were partway down the hallway back in the direction of the elevator bank.

I have always wanted to stay at the Drake, due to its reputation, older, iconic, etcetera. No disappointments. The room selected for us was beyond expectations. Beautiful, 6 huge windows. The bed was super comfortable, great linens. Our only disappointment-room service. We wanted a lovely breakfast. Breakfast was delivered in all paper, disposable service. Unhappy with that. We wanted real Serviceware .

Above, re: breakfast.. We love a proper Tea. We attended. The service and the atmosphere were fabulous. The servers were impeccable. The food was only mediocre at best

The room was wonderful and unusually large. Everything having to do with the room expectations was spot on. T.V. lost single, we reported the problem, and someone was at our door within five minutes. He tried his bag of tricks. No luck. He said there was one more thing he could try before writing up a job order for the next day's crew. It was to go up on the room and clean the ice and snow off the dish. It was cold and snowy. Within ten minutes the single was back and all was well. I found this to be typical of all staff we encountered. Once again, congratulations to the building management.

We were contacted by our online vendor and offered an upgrade for an extra $25 dollars a day. We accepted it and paid the additional $125 dollars. However, when we arrived at the hotel they had not been advised of the upgrade. We realize this is not in the control of the Hotel, and did/are not faulting them. We feel that the hotel should be aware of this issue by Booking.com lest they care to take action according to their policy. Every other area was exceptional, despite the hotel being sold out. Though the main lobby was crowded with adults and children, plus the restaurant, the staff were cordial and professional. My hat is off to the manager of this hotel. His masterful leadership is evident.

The location is excellent. On the northern most part of the Mag Mile. Bordering Lake Shore Drive, North Avenue Beach and steps from Oak Street boutiques. The neighborhood is safe and offers so much within a few minutes walk. Major CTA bus stops 1 block away and the subway is a 10 minute walk. There are loads of dining options within a 5-10 walk. There’s a Lavazza coffee shop in the arcade on the ground floor. The Drake is a venerable hotel. Our room was clean, quiet and spacious.

My only regret is that they only use the Palm Court for high tea. We used to have cocktails in the Palm Court for decades and now the entire room is closed unless they are serving high tea. I would love to see them open the space up for a champagne bar or cocktail bar, some way to experience the space without having the whole high tea thing. It’s a one time experience for me, the cost is exorbitant and the offerings tasted like boring hotel catering. The Coq d’Or, the only bar in the hotel, is tiny. It’s always crowded and super dark.

Cafe on Oak needs a little help w staffing , service . ..on December 27 th was incredibly slow, I waited over 20 min to get any service while I sat at the table before even ordering coffee & food . But on a 28 th morning there was excellent service , it was well staffed , with friendly waiters.

We book-ended our trip, returning again to the Drake for the final night of our holiday. The Christmas tree and decor were still as impressive as when we first arrived on day one. We also enjoyed dining in the bar Coq d'Or again, it has the perfect classic decor and lighting (1920s/30s) of which I'm very fond of! Tasty food, attentive service and a good buzzy atmosphere, people dropping in for Christmas drinks etc.

Overall our return stay was still lovely but in a different room/floor than first night and wasn't as nice. It was a little drab, smaller and faded, but same price as first night's stay so that was a little dissappointing. Also, the lady in the souvenir shop on right hand side on ground floor was quite hostile and unfriendly, she glared at us and barely spoke, I found her manner quite baffling considering we were buying a gift there! Just to clarify we also popped into another shop which had flowers, and that was lovely.

The location is right in the heart of the Gold Coast. Steps from Oak Street boutiques and 900 Michigan shops. Many restaurants and cultural offerings within an easy walk or short bus ride. The hotel is beautifully preserved and offers a luxury vibe at a reasonable price. Many families were there celebrating the holiday season at high tea in the gorgeous Palm Court. The staff is helpful and very accommodating.

It can be very bustling in the entry and lobby with limited seating. The rooms are comfortable but are older. The Palm Court has such limited hours there was no place to have a cocktail except the basement bar that was always jammed and so noisy we had to go elsewhere.

Love The Drake. It is always at the top of my list. The breakfast restaurant at the hotel is lovely, and they have amazing Christmas decorations. I did not have time to do tea, but I did get to enjoy the harpist from the lobby area.

The in-room coffee and room service could be improved, especially for a hotel of this caliber. Also, the tablet in my room did not work.
