I traveled to Detroit for a conference. There weren’t many hotels available, so I decided to book the Viking Motel based on availability and its rating on Booking.com. After booking, I checked the motel on Google and was alarmed by the ratings I saw on other websites. For example, there were reviews on TripAdvisor dating back to 2008 mentioning things like towels stained with blood. It seems the motel's reputation has been affected by outdated reviews. I was expecting something terrible, but I actually found it to be quite decent. I might be an outlier, but in my experience, the place was great, and I think most people could stay there without concern.

It’s within walking distance to little Cesar’s arena and several other venues and resteraunts. You get what you pay for. It’s a cheap motel. Beds were comfortable and ac was nice and cold. The room was clean. The outside is rough around the edges but the staff is super duper friendly and the rooms are nice. There was also a very sweet parking lot kitty.

The only issue I really had was there’s no coffee/coffee maker in the rooms (But there was a mini fridge and microwave). There’s a gas station right across the street so really it’s a personal issue and me not being a morning person.

The Motel is very close to Down town Detroit, walking just less than 10 minutes, and 20 minutes walk to the river side ,I don't have a car so I did walk during my stay ,also is not far from the bus stop 261 to the airport witch coast 2 dollars:) I like the bed and the shower the TV didn't work, the WiFi is super fast !!!😀 For what you pay this Motel is really nice 👌 well is not a 5 star but you can really enjoy your stay there the reception staff were very helpful thanks!!

Both staff members were friendly and helpful. We showed up earlier than the standard check in time and the staff allowed us to check in early. We also requested a main floor room which they were more than happy to do for us. The Motel is within walking distance of many attractions. The price was about 1/2 of other surrounding hotels. Definitely, worth the price.

Good location, bus stop in front of the building, 10 minutes walk to time square, room fridge and microwave in the room, roeteres, and towel were provided.

Limited supply for shower, the staff was very rude when asking for it and daid do not have any supplies and would npt cjeck in your room daily for the supplies and cleaning. The place is bit expensive based on the quality of the service.

Room was fine and clean. Everything worked ok. It was nice of them to allow me to leave my car in the parking lot after I checked out so I could attend an afternoon ballgame and depart for home afterward.

Outdoor light near my room at night was pretty bright but I guess that is for safety.

Location can't be beat for the price. Walking distance from the Masonic Temple, casino, TV Lounge, etc. Staff very friendly and helpful, and there's even a very friendly cat wandering around.

The room is nothing to write home about and the whole facility has kind of a seedy look to it.

Stayed here for a concert at the temple, the location was perfect, the walk was safe, no issues parking. Large fridge in room, friendly staff, cool pet cat named midnight. Free parking. Would stay again for a show at the temple.

Little amenities, but a third of the price of most hotels in the area.

I like that it was close to Little Caesars arena we came to see a Pistons game so the location was great. The front desk lady was very friendly. The rooms were clean.

It's not that I didn't like...the building is old so don't expect the Ritz...I would stay again for the price and location.

the room was clean...hardwood floors which was so much better than carpet! refrigerator worked and kept our drinks cold and beds were comfortable and clean.

we had Room 29, which was in the upper left corner of the motel. there was a business next door to motel outside of our room who kept their outside security lights on all night. our room was never totally dark, but at least we could find bathroom easily at night :) if you prefer a dark room, I would ask for one on the inside and definitely not 29.
