The history and beautiful exterior/interior of this hotel is a treat. So much character! There are several restaurants/stores in walking distance. We also enjoyed the common gathering spaces and the exercise room. It was nice to have a fridge in the room. So glad this property was saved and renovated – it is a gem.

We were placed in an interior room facing all the hotel heating/cooling machines. The view was ugly and there was a constant hum, which was a bit annoying. In addition, I booked two of the same priced rooms and one had a soaking tub and one did not. It would be nice if both of these things were more clear when choosing a room. I would have definitely preferred a room facing outwards. For the price, it would also be nice if breakfast was included.

The location was great. We parked in the garage (free on weekends) that connects to the hotel via a 2nd floor walkway usable once you've checked in and have a key. And we walked to a wonderful restaurant for dinner, Mangiare (highly recommend, though it is expensive, but food and service are wonderful!). The following day, we walked to breakfast at The Creamery (which didn't have pancakes--my heart, and stomach, were set on pancakes!) but was such a pretty spot to sit and eat looking out on the snow-banked Fox River. We headed back to the hotel and requested a later checkout time (happily granted), prepared for my book event at Lion's Head Bookstore, checked out and headed over to my event. In addition to being in a great location, the hotel has a comfortable upholstered bench and armchair, and a nice table and desk chair at which to do some work.

The bed could have been softer. I had just been at a different hotel in Minneapolis at which the bed was like sleeping on stone and all of my bones broke there. The bed at The Northland was an improvement, but not by a whole lot.

The Hotel was of the highest quality with lovely rooms attentive staff and absolute cleanliness. The breakfast menu gave us a great range of choice with full service.

The bed was really nice and so was the bathroom.

Check in. Booked two rooms. Only one at check in. The clerk went to check a computer and could see we booked a second room, and was able to reserve a room- not so close to the first one. Took over an hour to finally get the room. One of my friends was having a panic attack over not having the room. Why didn’t you just give us the room and then do your computer stuff behind the scenes instead of making us wait for the computer and human error to be fixed before we got the room. We got punished for something that was not our fault.

Everything was exceptional! Clean, beautiful- period decor from the roaring 20’s complete with soft jazz playing in the background. Behind the front counter is a display of old skeleton room keys- very cool! The bed was like sinking into a cloud- I have never slept in a hotel bed as comfortable as this one. The room was spacious and the bathroom looked like a spa. It was extraordinary, the standard by which we’ll measure all other hotels we stay at against.

Nothing. If I had to pick on anything it would be that the bar and restaurant closed earlier than we had expected so we had to Door Dash food. Minor inconvenience and not the hotel’s fault though.

Love the "vibe" of this hotel. Updated - historic. Preservation of old hotel cubbies behind check in desk -fabulous touch.

Couldn't get even an "hour late" checkout.

Loved the bathtub. The bed was very comfortable the room/rooms were very spacious. parking was very easy to navigate. pricing overall was very reasonable. Service even after hours was easy and very very fast. Wasn't my first stay, certainly won't be the last!
