The bistro and bar attached, is fantastic, good food, good prices. Great to be able to go back to the motel after a busy day, have a meal and a drink and relax back at the room. Good location. I would stay here again.

No room in fridge to put our own drinks due to mini bar taking most of the space. Breakfast buffet was quite expensive, so didn't utilize this. Would prefer to be able to make a personalized order, shouldn't need to spend $31 each for breakfast each morning. Bed a little hard for my liking. Need to carry bags up steps to enter the motel.

Interesting rambling historic hotel, a bit different to the usual high rise boxes. Internal courtyard with a fountain and shade trees has a great feel on a hot day. Location good for driving in the wider Canberra area, with an adequate outdoor but secure fenced carpark. Close enough to the CBD to walk if you're spritely and inclined, and don't want to be fleeced by Canberra parking charges; or you want to have a couple of drinks in town. Buffet breakfast was standard fare but plentiful and good. Good restaurant and bar. Reception staff were friendly and efficient.

Looks like a couple of things keeled over during Covid and weren't reinstated.

The room and character of the place was fantastic. The staff were very nice and helpful.

The breakfast was a big disappointment. You are better off going into town and getting breakfast. They had a conference on at the time and the coffee machine was taken from the dining area into the conference room1 hour before breakfast finished. So don't be late or no caffeine for you :-) It was great to have a pancake machine. If it worked. Compare this Mecure Breakfast to other Mecure breakfast in other capital cities, the value for breakfast was very poor.

The Hotel is a short drive to the centre of Canberra - shopping centre, War Memorial, Parliament House, museums and art gallery are all easily accessible by car. We didn't use public transport. Plenty of secure parking at the back of the Hotel and hotel room easily accessible. Staff at reception and dining room were all genuinely friendly and helpful in assisting us with our requests. We enjoyed the varied buffet selection of food for breakfast, all prepared and presented to a high standard - staff did very well catering for the large number of guests on Anzac Day and prepared a take away breakfast for our early departure. Our room was spacious, clean and quiet and we appreciated having a mid sized fridge, microwave and some kitchen utensils for preparing a few meals ourselves. Heating is comfortable in the room on a cold evening. The Hotel garden is well looked after and we appreciated the beautiful view from our room. Built in 1927 we enjoyed how the Hotel is full of history and well maintained with interesting photos and books - I loved the creaky old timber floors and architecture.

We had to be careful climbing the steep, winding steps to our bedroom upstairs as the carpet can be slippery. However there are ground level rooms available.

We loved being in a quiet room at the back, looking into a garden area so it felt like home. We had a large room with ample space for our suitcases which can often be a problem.

The tea cups were much too small - Mugs would be better. There was only 1 saucer for 2 cups which was awkward. Water from the shower recess came out across the floor so we had to put towels down to avoid a flood. The storage cupboard for the kettle and cups etc is very dark inside. I would suggest it be painted inside or lined with contact paper. Even with the lights on it was difficult to see what was available.

The lady at reception rang me about check in time as it was after 6pm. When I arrived I wanted ground floor room and she changed room without any hesitation. Great secure parking at back of hotel. Breakfast delivered at 10am to room. I got to sleep in. Bed soo comfy and room huge with balcony. I've stayed there many times and great value for money.

I got to room and balcony door wide open. It was a bit scary 😨. Rang reception and she changed room straight away and logged maintenance request for faulty door.

The staff are the Mercure's best asset. Friendly, professional and always ready to help. Bill from the breakfast area, and the young lady with the wrist support and frizzy hair from reception deserve a special mention. Attentive, nothing was too much trouble, professional and always friendly and polite.

The limited selection of hot breakfast items. I understand the need for it. But this is my 2nd stay. The 1st for 4 nights and this return stay for 2 nights. It just felt like repetitive and boring.

I spent two nights at this comfortable, well-located hotel. It is obviously an older hotel and the furnishings reflected this, but it had a lovely atmosphere. My room was spacious with a very comfy bed. Everything was clean and tidy. There was a little courtyard outside my room and while it was a little untidy (leaves and twigs dropped from the tree and some large spiderwebs) I enjoyed sitting out after a little clean-up . All of the staff, from the young ladies at the front desk to the cleaner and room service staff, were welcoming and friendly. The buffet breakfast was delicious.

The layout of the hotel was a little confusing to start with, and I needed some direction from the staff. I also welcomed the map that was shared with me.

Location

The food you didn’t get what you ordered there was always something missing and the bar person (male) charged different prices and gave wrong change each time (nothing to do with happy hour) refused some guest access to the bottle shop but allowed other (he was not the trainee felt more like the manager on duty) no smile Chef used his hands (without gloves) to put cooked pasta on plates to put into the microwave….. no gloves worn

An old hotel but has character and appears well maintained with sympathetic modernisation. Room was lovely. Receptionist was very welcoming and helpful. Good breakfast with both hot and cold buffets. Plenty of parking space. Location is ok being a 10-15 minute walk into town in one direction , and the war museum/Anzac Avenue in the other direction.

The bedroom doors are very noisy if left to close on their own - they bang shut. Unfortunately on my first night I seemed to have a lot of inconsiderate people around me doing this. Perhaps the hotel could attach some sort of tensioner to the doors so they shut slowly. The fire alarm also went off (twice!) in the early hours of the morning the same night, but I'm sure that's not a frequent occurrence. I guess I was just unlucky all round that particular night!
