The accommodation was authentic. Despite being an original gaol cell from the 1800's and only having a stainless basin, one tiny barred window and a large super thick solid metal door, bunk beds and separate shared toilet, shower and common room kitchen with lounge, my stay and room was more than satisfactory. In fact, the peace and noise-free zone noticed within the cell and while sleeping was exceptional, second to none. Sharing with many types of people, backpackers, tourists, spirit hunters and cave divers was also an excellent and unexpected outcome.

From the get go the communication with the owners was easy, super friendly and everything is as explained, easy text to get codes and entry was simple, cell easy to find, heater was on and there room was really comfy, showers where clean, wandering around to find where everything was is easy and the chapel and kitchen easy access from our room, kitchen is well equipt and fridge is there for all to use....we loved our stay and I would recommend staying to anyone and also will stay again myself

What a unique experience! Yes, you stay in a real jail cell, bu the bed is comfortable and the room is warm. And going for a wander around the grounds to view the history of the place is fabulous! As a bonus, it is SO peaceful...you might not expect that, but it is actually very relaxing to stay there!

I say this only with great reluctance: the toilet and shower facilities are separate from your cell/room. Like you wouldn't have expected this I suppose? It's a jail after all! But you must be aware that the toilet and shower facilities are shared, and this might not be acceptable for some people.

Loved spending the night in a place with history. Lots of information about the goal located around the site. The room as expected was small- it was a goal cell after all. The bed was comfortable- a double so giants beware. Any larger would not fit the room :) The heater warmed the room nicely. The kitchen area was clean and had what we needed. Lots of styles of cells to choose from. Having courtyards the goal would suit a group of friends or family get together. I understand you can hire the full complex. Good walking distance to the city pubs. Parking out the front. Some rooms have shared facilities. Remember, you are booking an experience. I\f your after luxury then this is not the place for you.

Nothing to mention. Get into the spirit of things and imagine how things were for the inmates.

This is an experience well worth a go for a night and would be a fun thing to do for backpackers and travellers who are looking for something different to the norm. The facilities were as advertised so pretty basic on the usual accommodation, we booked the family rooms as they had their own bathroom, loo and kitchen facilities which gave more in the way of comfort. Lots of information around that tells the history of the gaol. All round, an authentic experience if you're up for the adventure 🤩

We liked seeing the history of the gaol and walking around the grounds. The room was basic and comfortable - beds were great. We had a good night's sleep on our road trip to Geelong from Adelaide. There was no aircon but not needed with the walls - the room temp was great despite it being hot outside.

Not any fault of the owners / gaol but there were guests that came in late and proceeded to cook in the kitchen at 10pm - the smell came through our room which was not ideal, but can happen with communal facilities.

Very different to any property I have stayed in before. James the owner was extremely helpful. The history of the building is interesting. Very basic but that adds to the experience. There is a chapel which has a living room with a fully functioning kitchen, which has all you need to cook a delicious meal or to sit and relax with cup of tea. An amazing place to stay if you would like to stay somewhere different from the ordinary.

The gaol cell experience was fun. The kitchen was well equipped. The reading material in the lounge was good. The historic information and the fact that we were living in such a well known building was very good.

Even though it was a cold night I would have liked some fresh air in the cell. I accepted that I was experiencing it as inmates would, in a way. My husband said, as we left, that there might have been a possibility of opening a louvre window above the door. There was a dim light in the room all night.

It was a very novel experience to spend date night in gaol. I also liked the information that was available throughout the venue giving the history of the building and insights into what it was like for the original occupants.

Unfortunately, access to the bathroom and toilets isn't under cover so I couldn't use the facilities when it was bucketing with rain. This was only a minor inconvenience though.

I knew staying at an old converted gaol was going to be an experience, but it really was better than I expected it to be. Around the time of our stay, Mt Gambier was experiencing a crazy thunderstorm and gale. Despite that, we were pretty warm. James has done a fantastic job making the rooms liveable without taking away from the Gaol experience. The common washroom was right next door, and it had really hot water, too.
