We stayed at this hotel as part of visiting the Tomorrowland festival. Upon check-in, the manager at the reception offered us an upgraded room category, which had recently become available. This really cheered us up at the start of our trip to Belgium. The room was very clean and spacious and had everything necessary for a comfortable stay, even bathrobes. Breakfast was delicious and varied. Plus the welcome wine, water, tea and sweets in the room lifted our spirits during our stay. The room is cleaned daily. When we checked out, we didn’t have breakfast, but decided to have coffee and the owner treated us to delicious apple pastries. Staying at this hotel gave me a very vivid impression of my trip to Belgium! Definitely my highest recommendation!!!

Really great characterful building right in the old town centre, but away from the noise and crowds. Room was exceptional, spacious, clean and had all the necessary facilities. Friendly and informative host who welcomed us on arrival with some good tips and knowledge about the city.

Not a downside as the building is not able to have one installed due to its age, but there is no elevator, just to inform other travellers to prepare.

The location is perfect. Just a few 100 meters from the Grote Markt, most of central Antwerp is a short walk from the hotel. The rooms are comfortable, spacious and modern. The bathroom a good size and nice shower. The owner is very very friendly and knowledgeable about the city.

The hotel doesn’t have any facilities such as a bar. So this really is a room only hotel (with a central area with free coffee), which was fine for us for a short stay.

Very helpful staff on reception. Great location. Lovely atmosphere downstairs as you enter with relaxing classical music playing quietly and a nice area to sit and have a free coffee if you wanted. We had a small room but it was perfectly adequate for 2 nights. Very quiet considering the old town location.

Wonderful hotel in the old city of Antwerp. Great location yet still in a quiet area. Close to the cathedral, local bars and restaurants and transport links.. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Great communication from all the staff. Would highly recommend Hotel Matelote and look forward to returning soon

Good communication beforehand, perfect location 50m from the main area. Lovely greeting by Erik, nothing was too much trouble. Coffee area that can be used 24/7. Beds were great and i had a wonderful.deep bath which was great after walking around in the rain. Breakfast was simple though plentiful. Without asking we could have a late check out as our rooms were not booked out. We used P&R merskem as parking is very expensive in the area. This was perfect and easy We had a great, relaxed weekend.

The breakfast was value for money and super generous. The staff were very lovely, super helpful and polite. The facilities were great and the room was spacious with all the amenities you could want. Clean and comfortable stay.

It’s an old building- stairs are inevitable. But that is the only thing I didn’t love- even then, we were put on the first floor (I was on crutches) which was very accommodating!

The hotel is located perfectly in the centre of the city, right in the middle of the pedestrian areas full of bars and restaurants. The hotel owner was extremely helpful and friendly, and the access system to the hotel made it feel exclusive whilst still being practical.

There's no parking and the taxi drivers didn't seem to know how to get to it so I had to walk a little way, and because it's so central and in a busy area it was noisy, as my room fronted onto the street

At check out, I was told my balance is 35 euro, which includes breakfast and city tax for 2 persons. I gave the owner 50 euro. He did not give me the change. Later I found out the city tax is 3 euro per guest. The right charge should be 30 euro. So I was overcharged by 20 euro.

Owner was very friendly and helpful, the beds were very comfortable and the rooms were brilliant

The stairs but it's a protected building and they are not allowed lifts, they were also very clear on the fact that there were no lifts before we booked!
