Great location right in town. Walking distance to most things (walking being around 1-1.5km for me). Staff were fine, no drama, no hassle. Room big enough and adequate for the region. Read a few reviews (complaints) about the stairs and no lift. Yes, the stairs are quite narrow and vertical (and I was on the top floor!), but that’s common around French Indochina. It’s all part of the charm.

The AC was pretty weak at first, but it works and cooled the room plenty (actually it felt cold after several hours). The only thing I didn’t like was the toilet seat is too small for the bowl and quite loose on its hinges. That was a slight adventure.

The staff was always helpful and attentive despite our language barrier. They helped me with my luggage when I checked in and when I was attempting to carry it down three floors when I checked out. My room was clean but was very small.

My room was on the third floor and the stairs were steep. No elevator. But the staff would carry my suitcase when they saw me struggling. One of my neighbors kept leaving their food delivery trash on the table of the sitting area outside my door. It stayed there for several days until I took it to the trash. Road noise was an issue.

I stayed here for 10 days. The location is great, as I was able to explore most of Phnom Penh from here. It was good value for money. There were a few negatives, but I found ways to work around them by the second day. There is no wardrobe in the room, only some hangers. There was also no table or desk, so I removed the safety box and refrigerator and used that space as my work desk. Chairs are placed outside the room, where you can sit, smoke, or just relax. If you complain about anything, the staff will either say yes or laugh. They have a limited grasp of English, so it’s best to speak slowly but assertively. For room cleaning, I tipped half a USD, and after that, the staff came to my door every day. Before tipping, it was difficult to get the room cleaned, even after repeatedly calling the reception. As for the issue with music mentioned in other reviews, I didn’t experience any disturbances during my 10-day stay.

On day 2, the Wi-Fi stopped working completely, and I couldn’t attend any business calls. When I reported the issue, the staff either laughed over the phone or simply said “yes.” The Wi-Fi on my floor didn’t work for the rest of my stay, but I was moved to a different floor the next day, and it worked fine after that. Also, they really need to change the toothpaste in their dental kit—it was below average.

Sun Chakra exceeded my expectations. I expected an average hotel in the heart of the tourist district, but it was much better than this. Although the accommodations were modest, there was also a frig and toiletries for the shower, a kettle for boiling water for tea and places to sit outside under a roof to get to know other travellers out of the rain. All of the young men on the front desk were helpful regardless of how well they spoke English and they acted as concierge for the locked front door after hours. The location is amazing, just a block away from the National Museum and Palace and so many restaurants and bars are close by. There is also a monastery across the street where monks live and pray. I would definitely stay here again! It is a long climb to the top floor, try to get a room on the lower floors unless you really like hauling luggage:)

I booked this hotel on a whim and I'm glad I booked here! This hotel is right in the middle of the backpacker area. It is surrounded by restaurants, bars, convenience stores and is walking distance to the Royal Palace, many temples and Riverside Quay. My room was decent-sized and very quiet. I was also very pleased that they do not have a door where just anyone can come in the hotel. It is locked for protection and they will only let in their customers and staff (5 stars for keeping guests safe!). Coffee is provided by the front desk in the lobby. Although some of the appliances need upgrading, the staff was exceptional in their customer service (they let me check in early), provide help with tours, etc. They did my laundry and everything was cleaned very well and folded in a package. I was very happy!

If you're booking here, be sure to ask if your room has a window. Mine did not, and I had to request one that did. Rooms with windows are on a higher floor and you need to use the stairs (there is no elevator). Keep this in mind if you're someone who needs assistance with walking. Also, the appliances (maybe it was just my room) need upgrading. My fridge wasn't super cold and my hair dryer was on the fritz. I also suggest they upgrade to key cards and not physical keys.

Management and staff were exceptional and friendly providing great service whenever I needed anything. They warned me about the l scams that were happening in the area. My phone wasn't working so the supervisor allowed me to use his phone to call home which I really appreciated! Very comfortable clean bed and room. Hotel provided free water top up in the foyer. They also provided free fresh fruit everyday for the guests! Excellent location within a short walking distance to the National Museum, Royal Palace and Central Market and Buddhist temples. Many great restaurants along the street as well as a great convenience store close by.

We stayed here for one week. Location is very nice, theres good places to eat on the same street and its short walking distance. Also you can walk or find tuk-tuk very easily to basicly everywhere you want to go in PP. When we first arrived we got got a room that did not match the pictures, but there might have been miscommunication on my side. Next morning staff let us change the room that was renovated and equipped similarly as in pictures, but still not the exactly same room. Also new room was way less noisy than the first. No extra costs here and even got a couple options shown to choose from, very nice customer service! It has pretty cool roof terrace where breakfast is served and you can sit and drink. Also some free coffee and juice wich is quite nice. Staff is very friendly and they do their best to make your stay worthwhile. Helped us print visas and stuff. Also possible to book buss tickets and other stuff from reception if you need it. Good AC in the room. Really good Wi-Fi! Might vary between room location.

It is in my opinion a budget travelers option, good for people like us who don’t want to stay in crowded youth hostels but still need something cheaper. It is in no means 5-star luxury hotel, things is quite old, rugged and flimsy. Also got some little ants and couple little centipedes (no mosquitos!) But this is nothing new if you are traveling South East Asia / Cambodia. Hotel has steep and narrow stairs, no elevator, no problem but if you have bad knees maybe this is not for you. If you get unrenovated room you might be dissapointed, very basic. Also the rooms near street are very noisy as its in busy intersection.

The man at reception (sadly didn’t catch his name) was one of the friendliest and most accommodating hosts I’ve met in Cambodia. He has a really great attitude and gave me extra water even though there was some in my room. Made me really feel welcome. Room was very clean and TV and Aircon worked great. Shower was very hot and had good flow. Bed was comfortable. It’s location is good in terms of access to bars and restaurants and near the riverfront.

It can be loud at night with because it is located in one of the bar/club areas. Also the stairs could be strenuous depending on how much luggage you have.

The location of the hotel was superb; the staff couldn't do enough to help us. Room big and comfortable. The balcony/walkway outside the rooms overlooked the monastery next door and the bustling streets so it was a very 'immersive' stay. Not far from the riverside and night market. The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda were also within walking distance. Sadly the roof terrace/bar was being refurbished.

The breakfast choice was pretty poor and could really do with addressing - basically just a choice of eggs with a piece of toast and some butter portions which were taken straight from the fridge and were therefore unspreadable so perhaps they could have been at (air-conditioned) room temperature. Bear in mind that there is NO lift, and while the staff will help to get your luggage up and down the stairs, the stairs are steep, which is not fun if you're on the top floor!! Wasn't too impressed by the electric switch/socket being so close to the shower.

I was in Phnon Penh and had an excellent driver in a tuk tuk. The hotel was on a busy street with plenty of restaurants and bars. Close to the river but not close enough to walk. Right across from a Buddist Temple.

The bed did not have a mattress pad. The room configuration was odd and the TV was wall mounted at an angle in a corner. There was a gap under to door and noise came in and so did a gecko. The room had a strong oder of mildew and two different ac units emptied onto my bathroom floor. The area is extremely noisy. Breakfast was simple, toast, ice hard butter, runny eggs, oj from concentrate and coffee. No fruit or bacon or sausage. No laundry service, no whitener for coffee and nor many chouces for breakfast. There was also construction all day in the building. Not good value. 😐
