As long as they are maintained I love staying in old/older hotels. I love the feel the history and architecture.

A common issue I see in many places are the in room smoke detectors. As they age and get to the end of their life cycle (yes smoke detectors have an expiration date) the plastic they are made of is designed to “yellow.” Judging from the look of the smoke detector is our room, 326, it probably reached the end of it’s useable life span I’d estimate about the time the dinosaurs went extinct. NOT ACCEPTABLE! NOT SAFE!

I liked the location, being close to the Soo Locks, downtown Sault Ste Marie, and the wedding venue (Kewadin Casino). The hotel was clean and I was pleasantly greeted upon arrival by a friendly front desk agent. The General Manager was bartending on the night that I arrived and it wasn’t busy, so it was a nice arrival experience. Breakfast the next morning was okay; nothing spectacular, but it was complimentary and held me over til lunchtime. I liked that the hotel had historic charm, especially the bar/restaurant, lobby and exterior. The rooms could definitely benefit from an update and perhaps sound dampening insulation. That said, I was very comfortable during my stay and would stay here again.

The bar/restaurant closed at 10pm which seems a bit early to me, but understandable due to staffing shortages and such. The rooms were outdated, but comfortable and clean. I would suggest keeping the core of the hotel in its historic glory (exterior, lobby, restaurant), and updating the rooms. I could also hear people pretty clearly in the hallways and neighboring rooms, which was slightly inconvenient when trying to focus on work or wind down for the evening.

Could see the locks from our bedroom. Easy walk to lock viewing, tower and museums. Crepe place across the street was very good. Franks restaurant has WONDERFUL root beer floats.

The town literally rolls up its sidewalks at 6 and most places were closed for the holiday weekend. Minimal cold breakfast in the lobby- cereal/ coffee.

The first day there basically wasn't any breakfast, just some pastries and coffee. The next two days, the breakfast was better, as someone had stocked the yogurt and the breakfast biscuits, as well as offering juice and other pastries.

The facilities were still under construction in the public areas. I would think that would be the first area to fix up. The lobby was a nice place to sit, but it could have been soooo much better with a little remodeling. There was a layer of dust under the coffee table. And an uninstalled cabinet just sitting there.

entire facility was very clean.suite was hugh, 700 sq ft, hot tub, large walkin shower, 2 tvs, desk, couch, easy chair and tables. counter with sink, microwave, coffee maker, full size refrigerator, king bed.

breakfast was very skimpy, coffee, hot water for tea or chocolate, muffins, bagels,and yogurt. could have used at least some juice

The room was nice, a little bare but spacious. The bathroom was large.

They double charged my $300 incidental hold so I was out $600 while I was there so that really sucked. And it still has not released the next day after check out. No fans in the bathroom.

Location was excellent. Visited the Soo Locks multiple times. Traveled to other attractions within a two hour radius. Hotel was clean and comfortable.

Possibly a lounge chair or something to sit in casually in the room, besides the bed or office chair.

The property was beautiful! Right in the heart of the downtown area, everything was in walking distance. We could walk to the diner to eat, walk back to the hotel to nap, walk to the viewing platform to watch the ships… it was amazing!

The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired. It was set up in the lobby and had very few options. However! That meant we discovered Frank’s Place which was THE BEST food for a good price. So, it kind of worked out.

The room was clean and comfortable. The view and location were excellent. We were located right next to the Soo Locks viewing station. The staff was friendly and helpful.

There was a delay in the check in process. We had to wait an extra hour to get into our rooms. Parking was a bit crowded. Hard to find a spot.

We love it there! It is our favorite place to stay, their suites are unmatchable with other hotels in our area!!!

We just wish the pool was finished and ready to go, that’s the one thing we have been missing out on.
