The hotel is located in the old town, right next door to the oldest church in the city, founded in the late 17th century, and only a few minutes walk from Santa Lucia station. I was delighted with the location, because so much of where I wanted to go, like the museum of pre-Colombian art and other museums, were in easy walking distance (less than 20 mins), as was Barrio Lastarria, a precinct with many restaurants and cafes. I also found the staff very friendly and courteous, keen to ensure that, as a solo traveller of mature years, I was secure and well looked after.

The hotel is not a modern property. For me that was part of its charm. While it is showing its age in places, its location and the friendliness of the staff more than compensated. Other reviewers have commented unfavourably on the wifi in the hotel, but I found it more than adequate, although I was not downloading movies or trying to play video games. The breakfast is limited but I found plenty of options. My main disappointment was the lack of an electric kettle in the rooms. I wanted to make tea but there was only a Nespresso style coffee maker. I didn’t bother to ask for a kettle so don’t know what the reaction would have been if I had done so.

We stayed at the Hotel Plaza San Francisco at the end of our 1-month trip through Patagonia. We were very well received and everything was quick and simple during the check-in process. The room, although old-fashioned, was clean, spacious, the bed was huge and the sheets were impeccably clean. The view from our window was the imposing San Francisco Church. We even slept with the curtains open so we could admire the view when we woke up! The hotel may be a little old-fashioned, but it has its charm. Due to a delay in our flight, the hotel allowed us to stay in the room after check-out time for free, a gesture that we greatly appreciated. We ate several times at the hotel's "Bristol" restaurant and simply loved everything, from the service, to the food, and again the service. Everyone was very friendly, cordial and attentive. All dishes are served with a very careful and appealing presentation, the flavors all go together very well, and there is almost no waiting time, everything arrives at the table on time. We loved all the dishes we tried, but the lentil burger with exotic rice was phenomenal and won our hearts! The desserts were delicious, we loved the citrus profiterole and the raspberry yogurt tart!

The only complaint would be the restaurant's lunch time: 1 pm. Our flight had been postponed until 6 pm, there was a protest taking place on the avenue and we called a taxi for 2 pm. We wanted to enjoy our last lunch at "Bristol" but we arrived at 12:30 pm and it was closed. Everything was too tight for us and we almost had to "rush" the waiters so we could get to dessert. Luckily everyone was super understanding and brought us all the dishes on time and we managed to catch our taxi on time. We thought that opening a restaurant at 1pm is too late...

Perfectly located for exploring the central area of Santiago. The rooms are very good quality, with a historic feel to them and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are very good. We stayed here twice, bookending our holiday in Santiago, and the rooms we stayed in were identical to each other. The reception staff and door staff are incredibly polite and helpful, and the transfer service to the airport was good value and relaxing. Breakfast was good. We felt totally relaxed here and looked forward to staying here at the end of our stay before flying home.

If you're looking for somewhere to eat, walk 15 minutes east down the main road to find many very good bars and restaurants. The main square area, which is closest to the hotel, doesn't have many options. The restaurant in the hotel is fine but we found the vibe to be slightly off - it would be improved by lower lighting, music, and fewer wait staff.

Our room was large, clean and comfortable, with a shower, bath and jacuzzi. The hotel is located in the centre of Santiago and we were able to walk around and see the sights. All of the food was good, but we particularly enjoyed the sandwiches in the Bristol bar. The staff were all so welcoming and helpful that we felt at home - many of them speak good English which was nice for us because our Spanish is inexcusably poor.

Breakfast was great. Staff very obliging and could accommodated our gluten free needs. We were given a complimentary upgrade so the room was spacious and they obliged with an electric kettle for the room which was appreciated. My daughter's family room - 2 double beds - was fantastic as it faced the mountains, was extremely light, quiet and spacious.

Our room was at the front of the Hotel, facing an 8 lane main road so even with windows closed there was a constant hum of traffic. Also the heating was set to heat and the room was far too hot no matter how we tried to adjust it or turn it off.

Inclusive breakfast had a good choice from pastries to cold meats to hot choices. Omelette chef to cook to order. The restaurant was superb. I’ve had the pleasure of staying in great hotels all over the world and the food was equal to them. Shame it’s not busier. Location is great near the historic area. Our room was spacious and comfortable, well decorated. The reception staff were magnificent helping us with phone calls and translation when Kate was the victim of pickpockets on the metro losing her passport.

The single niggle, common throughout Argentina too, is the provision of small plates in the breakfast area scarcely big enough for two toast side by side

The location and staff can't be beat. If you want to go experience the culture and history of Santiago, Plaza Hotel San Francisco is the place to do it from. The people who work here are top notch; outstanding service and attention to detail in every way.

As others have noted, the facilities are a bit dated and tired, though it is clear the staff keeps the infrastructure working well. I would not consider this a 5 star property, though that is not surprising given the price. Charging for coffee pods beyond the first one is not great customer service in my estimation. Amenities in the room are relatively limited. All this said, the price to value proposition for this hotel makes it worthwhile. I recommend it when visiting Santiago!

We got an up grade to a suite which was great. The staff were very friendly. The location was close to the plaza de armes which was good for first time visitors.

Our room faced onto the main road and was noisy whereas our family's double room was at the back of the property with fabulous views to the snow clad mountains and far from the main road. Their room was also very light and open. Also our room was super hot and could not be changed as it was pre set to this temperature and we could not have the window open due to the road noise!

Hotel is in a great location for exploring on foot. Many interesting things to see within walking distance. The check-in staff was amazing -- very efficient and did an excellent job organizing rooms for our group of twelve people. The hotel's decor is very traditional, but has a lot of charm. Overall, all staff very helpful and friendly. Great breakfast with lots of choices. Many different baked pastries and breads on offer! Very tasty mini chorizos, as well as ham and cheeses and eggs.

The area surrounding the hotel is a bit rundown. We were warned about walking around in the neighborhood after 10 p.m. due to crime/thefts. We appreciated being advised on safety, but overall this gave a slight feeling of insecurity to our stay. That being said, we had no issues and saw no incidents or concerning situations. We used Uber for transportation after sundown.
