This hotel is basic but has everything you need for a short stay at the beach. It hasn't been renovated for a while, but it has a charm about it, and my room was clean. The aircon is old, but it works fine. The location is perfect, right across the road from the main beach. I was surfing every day and enjoyed staying here. It's not fancy at all, but for me, it was good value for what I was looking for as a solo traveller.

A lamp by the bed would be a nice addition. I had one large suitcase open on the floor, which worked fine for me, but if I’d been travelling with someone else, we’d probably have needed to unpack a bit as there wouldn't be enough room to have two suitcases open.

This was our third stay at Hotel Marielos and all three were wonderful. While not beachfront, the beach is an easy 5 minute walk across the street. There are numerous restaurants, shops, tour operators, equipment rentals, a medical clinic, etc. within just a few blocks. The staff is small but all are friendly and helpful. The grounds and the common kitchen are clean and well cared for. This is not a five star hotel, but it is very definitely an excellent value.

Because we enjoy morning and evening walks on the beach but prefer to spend the day lounging away from the crowds and beach vendors, the only thing that would make Hotel Marielos perfect is the addition of a swimming pool.🤞

Great location. Across the road from the main public beach, nice breeze almost always. Next door to a small supermarket. Easy walk 2 blocks to heart of town restaurants, shops, businesses. Traditional family run hotel - lots of character. Very safe. Guests are courteous with each other. Staff is super helpful. Shared kitchen is clean and tidy. Bright, open airy spaces - each unit has a small porch with hammock or table + chairs. Monkeys and exotic birds live in the big trees next door and a couple of chickens parade through the grounds from time to time. Charming, delightful.

Just across the road from the beach, I could leave my valuables in my room and just take my sandals and a towel to the beach. I really enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and practising my Spanish with them. Local people are very friendly especially when you don’t come with a big foreign attitude and don’t always try to squeeze English out of them. WE are the guests in their country!

Some basic things could be added. Some examples: a chair in the room, a can opener and a bottle opener in the kitchen.

The location is great, just across the beach and surfing area. Restaurants are just a few steps away. We recommend Diria restaurant for dine in.It is a fancy hotel and restaurant but the food price is almost the same price are other restaurants, probably a dollar or two..

The bed clanks, just to turn on your side. There is no isolation so you can hear the other room's noise especially at night. The shower is full of calcaire so water doesn't flow much. No hot water rather just warm almost cold.

Excellent location, right in front of the beach, next to a supermarket, next to Iguana surf shop, next to a Laundromat, Subway! Owner: Highly educated, sweet lady! Staff: Excellent, polite, professional! Gardner: A very nice gentleman starts work early in the morning! Garden with a cute circular bench. Kitchen: Loaded with tools! Gas stove, refrigerator, coffee filter Costa Rica style. Secure, safe, Costa Rica designs! Room: Good size. Bed Comfortable! Two pillows. Bathroom Clean, toilet Works, hot shower. Sink. Any requests Jose 🙏 took care of it right away. Outside swing, table, chairs. A well maintained hotel. I loved it! AC and TV in bedroom.

Marielos and all staff were very kind and helpful. The place is very close to Ocean and shopping, dining, grocery, and tons of surf shops/rentals. Met many friendly travelers from States, Switzerland, Canada and CR staying at Hotel. If staying primarily in Tamarindo save money by using shuttle service, renting car more expensive.. Listen to Howler Monkeys in early morning and Giant Iguana roam property occasionally. Chickens present and add to the excitement. I would highly recommend this hotel for Authentic Costa Rican experience, I enjoyed my visit tremendously and would return as soon as possible. The pictures were taken on the way out after checking out, place was continuously being taken care of during our stay.

I would have liked hammock, did not have at room#9. Did not have pool, would be super nice, but you are very close to amazing Pacific Ocean. Expensive to dine out, but can be very cost effective to purchase grocery from close by store and prepare meals in community kitchen on property, Grocery store has access to very good Papaya, Coconut, and Cassava priced very inexpensively. Sunblock on the other hand $32 US if you are a "PW" do to unforgiving mid day tropical sun very expensive. Also, if you like surfing, meet José and Mario. They'll give you $5 for an hour of surfing on phenomenal waves. Make sure to give the Ticos and Ticas a smile and always greet and say bye by saying Pura Vida. Bring good vibes and a positive attitude and you'll have the time of your life.

The staff were exceptional Location is excellent Air conditioning was excellent Kitchen is very handy Grounds are beautiful Security is excellent…felt safe there for sure Parking on site was also handy…just in case you even want to rent a car, motorbikes, or even a golf cart Wildlife was really cool 😎 Roosters,iguanas and I even got woken one morning at 5am by the Howler monkeys…. The monkeys were back in the afternoon and I got to watch them play for half an hour…..FROM my porch!! I found my stay very reasonable and clean….without costing a lot which left me money to explore the local cuisine All in all the Hotel Marielo totally enhanced my Tamarindo experience 🇨🇷

Didn’t have any connection that my charger would plug in my room….. But the shared kitchen was right there and they had the right outlets…minor inconvenience

Hotel Marielos was in a great location near the center of everything but nicely removed from the noise of the town. The rooms were a good size with a fridge and strong A/C that would cool the room quickly. I enjoyed the hammock, table and chairs outside my room (all of them have them). Everyone was super friendly.

I wish the shower had more water pressure and I was also provided a wash cloth. There are chickens on the property so it took me some time to get use to the nightly singing of the rooster from 2am until 6am every day.

Its simple extremely clean great position. I loved it.its one of the original and iconic early Tamarindo hotels.everything is quite basic but also everything you need. It's not luxury but perfect in every way for a beach holiday right next to the oldest surf school Iguana surf and is well priced too.🩷🩷
