Mama Africa is on the West side of the Nile, not far from the river-bank, so it was easy to find people to take us across to the East Bank and it was convenient for getting to attractions on the West Bank. Our host, Hamdy, was very attentive, and was able to help arrange some of our visit, and even arrange transport for us to get back from Aswan to Luxor. The apartment was large and spacious - we particularly enjoyed sitting out on the balcony in the cool of the morning and evening. A highlight was definitely sitting around the pool in the hot afternoons, and cooling off in the water. There were also some useful shops nearby, which sold most necessary items and food. We also enjoyed a meal in a restaurant just a few minutes walk from Mama Africa. Would definitely recommend Mama Africa to other travelers.

It is set back a bit from the river, so might be hard to find. But once you know where you are, and know your bearings, its not a problem. There were air conditioners in 2 bedrooms, but not in the main living areas - but there were fans which worked well.

I had a room on last floor so over all day it could be super hot on a room but there is a fan and AC on a room so that's a good thing. Big room with big bathroom and small kitchen.

Wifi is is only on swimming pool level so no wifi in a rooms so if you work remotely its a big problem. Dishes are dirty they look like somebody used them and didn't clean them because there is no dish soap, so make sure you clean them by yourself before use.

The location was great, at least for us. The apartment was big and comfortable, very good beds. We all slept great. It was also clean and tidy. The breakfast, although it's not included, is good. However we enjoyed more eating out. We were picked up from the bus station and were treated good, They took care of us every moment, the owner even got a cake with my friend's name on it for his birthday and we gave him a good surprise. We really enjoyed the place, we would come back.

We booked a higher floor apartment and we finally stayed on the ground floor apartment but no problem at all, it has probably been better for us.

We stayed at Mama Africa for three nights in Luxor. The room was in a quiet area, comfortable, and spacious. Breakfast was delicious, extremely filling, and offered at a very reasonable price. The owner organised our visit to Luxor by providing transport at a fair price, which helped us avoid being scammed. He also arranged our transportation from Luxor to Aswan, and then from Aswan to Abu Simbel. Our driver, Hassan, was incredibly kind and attentive. It was a real pleasure traveling with him! We had a wonderful stay in Luxor. If we return to the city, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!

A couple of minor things worth mentioning : the toilets were not working properly. When visiting during winter, the room gets quite cold at night, so it’s important to bring appropriate clothing. Mosquito repellent is extremely useful.

Excellent value for money. One huge room with ensuite bathroom which was ideal for the kids and another twin room. Good bathroom with a power shower. Nice pool to relax and take a dip. The owner Hamdy arranged a boat trip to banana island for well less than half the price from the tour operators (we were a family of 5 and operators charge per person rather than the boat). Hamdy also arranged for a great driver to get around called Mr. Kind who spoke excellent English. I should mention that I read some negative reviews on Google which to be honest I think we're from a competitor. I found Hamdy and his staff all to be friendly and honest.

The kitchen needs more utensils and some cups. Tv did not seem to work but didn't need it. There was no mention of the internet but it was not too much hassle for us as we had bought sim cards from Orange (I would recommend). The location is not great and a little hard to find so I suggest asking Hamdy to pick you up when you arrive in Luxor especially if arriving at the bus station which is hectic when arriving with kids. The place is ideal for people on a budget especially in groups or older families.

The breakfast was lovely, and the host was very good! We were 6 people and had more than enough space in our apartment. Hamdy was very helpful with suggestions for things to do in Luxor, and was flexible on timings for when we were leaving! The place is lovely, has a pool and the view from the balcony is very nice, and there is good aircon/fans in all the rooms although we didn't really need it in November. Would recommend to anyone staying in Luxor!

I think the property is great - it is just tucked a little bit further from the main road so can be a little hard to find, but otherwise very good.

Mama Africa provides a comfortable stay and has many positives, great swimming pool for the hot days, air conditioning, spacious rooms, washing facilities, amazing rooftop to sit and watch the sunset, offers tours to all of Luxor's afftractions and great meals and atmosphere at Mama Africa Camp. Moussa and Hamdy both provide excellent customer service, meeting and greeting on arrival and nothing is a problem. Recommend Mama Africa for your next stay in Luxor

No complaints about stay

We booked the apartment with two rooms, and it was very clean and spacious. The guesthouse is beautiful, and the pool is great. The staff was incredibly helpful, and Hamdy recommended several tours and even invited us to a local wedding. If you're planning a Nile boat trip or a visit to the Banana Island, be sure to ask for Mohamed to take you. For tours of the East or West Bank, Ahmed is the guide to go with—he’s the kindest, most helpful, and honest person you could meet. The wifi isn't the best, but other than that, we really enjoyed our stay!

Hamdy came directly to pick us up from GoBus station and brought us to Mama Africa, where we spent 4 nights (initially it was 1) in a very quiet area. He and his family hosted us wonderfully, providing a big room on the 2nd floor with comfy double beds, a beautiful view of the Nile river and huge, tasty breakfasts. Beans, omelette, soup, cow cheese, fruit, pita bread, every day something was slightly different but very delicious and fulfilling (I normally eat a lot, but with their breakfast I was ok until dinner). Moreover, Hamdi helped us with our trip, organising transports and the best places to visit, even a plan from Luxor to Aswan and the transport Aswan - Abu Simbel, all at a fair price. He cares a lot for his guests thus he does his best to satisfy them, depending on their needs and priorities. Therefore, our stay in Mama Africa surrounded by Hamdi and his family makes our visit to Luxor amazing!!! If I come back in Luxor, for sure this place will be my choice! There were some minor issues, but generally for us everything wasn't a big problem: - WiFi wasn't strong and it worked intermittently; - towels had some stains; - there was one blanket less.

We stayed at Mama Africa Luxor for 4 nights and everything was great. Hamdy and his family took care of us in every way possible, starting from the pick up from the bus station. Hamdy personally came and welcomed us with a few beers. Then, they gave us a very big room at the 3rd floor with a nice view on the Nile. We had 2 big comfortable double beds and the apartment was fairly clean. Breakfast was all the time really tasty, fresh and huge. Every morning they cooked slightly different dishes. They also organise all our tours in luxor (east and west banks, dandara) and also our transfer in Aswuan and Abu simbel at a very good price. They really know how to take care of travellers that want to enjoy the beauty of Egypt with no stress. Most importantly, they always greet you with a big smile :) Thanks for everything and hopefully we see each other again soon!

Wifi didn't work in the apartment most of the time. A lot of smoke from neighbour fields entered one of the room but it wasn't their fault.
