The Hotel Montaigne was a popular hotel and very well run. The staff were excellent in giving us directions. Had a great breakfast with lots of choice. The parking was just down the street in your own private garage. In the centre with the pedestrian street and restaurants close by. Easy to get to the Caves and surrounding towns.

Very good breakfast with variety of breads, cereal, fruit, yoghourt etc on offer. Also variety of drinks. Our room on the ground floor was surprisingly big and quiet. Effective air conditioning and lovely bathroom. The staff at Reception were really welcoming and helpful and spoke very good English. The position of the hotel is excellent and we will try to stay there again if we return to Sarlat. We were attending a wedding at the cathedral and stayed three nights.

It is a pity you cannot park free near the hotel, but this is clear from the pre-booking information. The free car park is a walk away but you can unload your luggage at the hotel first - the walk is not recommended for anyone elderly or with mobility problems on a hot day. Apart from this small inconvenience, we liked everything!

Excellent location next to the historical downtown. We've chosen the One-Bedroom Apartment that was large enough and in perfect shape - recently renovated. A/C worked fine and quietly in very hot weather. Wifi Internet fast and stable. We very much liked the breakfast - reasonable choice and great value for €11,50. We also opted for the optional parking (€7 per night) in hotel private garage park about 250m away. The hotel receptionists were very friendly and helpful.

The only nuisance was that we had to walk to/from the car parking those about 250m for every day trip but that was balanced by the low garage parking charge.

They are located just outside the medieval part of the city, so an easy walk in 5 minutes or less to many excellent restaurants. The room was great and it was a lovely place to stay; very reasonably priced, nice typical French continental breakfast selection (and they had gluten-free bread and cereal available if we wanted it). As a bonus, the window actually opens so you can let in fresh air if it's nice.

Our only (minor) complaint was that it was unseasonably hot when we visited in early April and the window of our room faced west. We would leave the curtain closed when we left in the morning to try to keep the room cooler, but the chambermaid would always open the curtain when the room was cleaned, so when we returned it was in full sun and warm, so we'd need to close the curtain and turn on the AC to get the temperature cool enough to sleep.

The location of the hotel was perfect for driving around the Dordogne region. The building was old medieval style but attractive and well-kept. The room was adequate - not huge but had a nice bathroom with a good shower. We thought the breakfast was great with a nice variety of food in a pleasant setting and reasonably priced. The staff at the desk were very helpful and friendly and patient. One of them went out of her way to help us with the parking machine in the hotel parking lot. We were very happy with our stay at this hotel.

We really had no major complaints.

The staff were friendly, helpful, and fluent in English. The location was perfect for walking through the town and for traveling to the villages and incredible sights nearby. And a large locked garage was available nearby. The breakfast was excellent – a wide range of breakfast items in a large, comfortable room.

Not the hotel's fault, but getting to the parking garage in the car was complicated. The hotel provided a good map to get to the parking garage, and as far as the drive seemed, the walk back to the hotel was short and simple – it was closed roads and one-way systems that caused the complication.

No parking, garage wasn’t big enough for our pickup truck we came in , 1st member of staff who we were greeted by wasn’t very friendly, rest of staff were very nice , we paid extra to have what we thought would be a terrace with a view , but no view , you were facing a brick wall of next door , and only 2 coffee pods were supplied for staying 5 nights , you had to pay €1 per pod! which I thought was a bit much

The hotel is in a great location just a block from the historic center city. There was paid parking in the front of the hotel or the staff can reserve a garage for you for a reasonable fee. There is also free parking close by if you can find a space. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room was a nice size for France with a firm but comfortable bed. The bathroom was a good size with a great shower. There was lots of shelf’s in the room to put your things. We asked for a quiet room which the staff reserved for us. So we had no street noise.

Everything was great.

A wonderful hotel in close proximity to the old town. Clean and cozy rooms, quiet and comfortable. Right under the windows there is a large public parking - paid, but after 19:00 and until 9 am and on Sundays it is free. The hotel also has places in a locked garage 200 m from the hotel on the same street which cost 7 euros per day. This is our third time staying at this hotel, everything is always good.
