This is a shining example of all that is good about German hospitality and family-style comfort. Generous rooms, wonderful breakfast, family-owned and operated. Full disclosure: I am Austrian so I am naturally at home with this type of small-scale hotel. Everything there feels "genuine", nothing like out the typical catalogue for hotel equipment like so many anonymous much bigger places, even if they sport more stars in their official categorization. But if you want to experience how it is to travel and "be" in Germany, than this is a place to go. Think of visiting a Ryokan in Japan.

I like small hotels, and Hotel (Restaurant) Krokodile is not an exception. In walking distance to the interesting parts of town, with a good supermarket about 80 meters away, and a restaurant below, you can't go wrong with this great-value hotel. But what you also get in small hotels, is personal attention, and the friendliness of the entire staff at the Krokodil made my stay a pleasure. The room, while spartan, was great. Quiet, good mattress, plenty of hot shower water. I would recommend this place any day over the more fancy chain-hotels.

Breakfast was ok (what's wrong with rolls, cheese and ham, cornflakes, good coffee?) but nothing out of the ordinary - and exactly the same in all three days I stayed there. Like many other budget hotels in Germany, I regret the lack of coffee-making equipment in the room. Parking is a major PITA - ask the reception for a street-parking ticket, and pray for an empty spot, or splurge on a nearby garage. Oh: no elevator, so be ready to carry your stuff up a few floors. Good for your health.

This was our second stay im Krokodil. It is a nice, quiet place in the lovely Weststadt and the people working in the hotel are exceptionally nice. The breakfasts are marvelous. The location which is outside the Altstadt/Bergheim area but a short walk to the center is great. We also walked to and from the train station from the hotel since we each had small roller carry-ons. It is less than ten minutes. The restaurant is also quite nice, and there are a couple other good places in the Weststadt (try Schwarzer Peter!). The Heidelberger Altstadt is going sadly downhill, but the Krokodil and the other Stadtteile remain nice.

We don't spend time in hotel rooms, but if you do, you might like a larger TV.

I had a 2 night stay in Heidelberg and looked for something that was easy to reach from the Heidelberg Main Station, which is really just a few minutes walk away. So, the hotel has a really convenient location with plenty of cafes and restaurants around. The neighborhood HD-Weststadt is pretty quiet, so I didn't feel bothered by any noise from the street. My room was in the 4th floor (3.OG) so yes, it was warm in there but it didn't feel to unpleasant. The Staff was super helpful and I would definitively recommend this place!

Unfortunately, didn't make it to see the crocodile in the restaurant. :)

A wonderful small family-run hotel between the train station and the old town of Heidelberg. Everything can be reached on foot. The room was very comfy, the breakfast very yummy, and the staff super friendly. There is also a restaurant downstairs, with excellent food.

The staff was very friendly & the location was excellent. It was a 15 min walk to drop our rental car off at enterprise, and a 15 min walk the other direction to the old town (where the Christmas market was held). There were several grocery stores, book stores, bakeries and coffee shops nearby. The s-bahn and bus stops were a short 3-4 min walk away, which was very convenient. The room we stayed in was large and had plenty of room for the baby’s pack-n-play that they lent us free of charge. We had a great view of the church out our window. The room was several floors high without an elevator, but that didn’t bother us as it’s pretty common in Europe. We were encouraged to leave our stroller on the bottom floor and felt safe doing so. It was fine and no one messed with it during the 3 days/2 nights we were there. We opted out of breakfast so we can’t speak to that.

The old decor gave the feeling that the hotel wasn’t clean (although it was). It would go a long way if they would remove the red carpet in the rooms. The bathroom had a weird smell.

Lovely spacious room with high ceilings and windows that opened but excellent sound proofing when closed. Well maintained family-run establishment. Comfortable wooden bed and proper cotton duvet. Big bathroom. Breakfast room had nice view; help yourself buffet breakfast. Good location between station and Altstadt. Lots of cafes nearby and a supermarket. Krokodil restaurant on ground floor worth visiting.

Breakfast might not be best value for everyone.

Nice small scale hotel in a great quiet neighborhood with good vibes (many good bars and restaurants for brunch etc). Easy walking distance to Altstadt and buses/tram. People are extremely friendly. The restaurant in the same building has good vegetarian food.

Nothing- if you accept that you have to pay for parking in a close-by (non-public) garage (13€50 per day). Small proposal: a tea kettle in the room would be nice.

I had an amazing time in the hotel, despite staying there just for work. Everyone was so nice and helpful, it truly brightened my days. The building is old but nevertheless, the hotel is clean and neat. Also, the location is great: 15 minutes on foot or by public transport to Hbf and less than 30 minutes from the old town. I will definitely stay there again next time I am visiting Heidelberg.

The WiFi connection was sometimes interrupted in my room, however I have noticed that only during video calls, so it was not very severe.

Big and clean room, with space to work. Large windows for plenty of light, but also thick curtains to block it. Practical location. Kind staff.

Breakfast a bit expensive for the choice that you get. Sound insulation of the rooms not great.
