We had a great experience with the Garden Hostel in Budapest. The owner was not only friendly and helpful but also provided us with valuable tips for exploring the area and shared fascinating historical facts. The location, slightly on the outskirts, is ideal for travelers with cars as free parking is available right in front of the building. Moreover, the proximity of the Bus/Train Station and Metro Station, within a 10-minute walk, made it convenient to reach the city center within 30 minutes. The facilities were satisfactory, and the well-equipped kitchen met all our needs. The reliable internet connection was a plus, and the spacious garden offered a great opportunity for enjoyable barbecues. Considering the reasonable price and the overall positive experience, we highly recommend the Garden Hostel in Budapest

We liked the peace and quiet of the location, the garden access and the green views from the window. We liked its proximity to Budapest Kelenföld Station from where there are direct trains to Vienna, as well as access to the city tram and underground network. We were glad to have use of the kitchen:to boil a kettle, cook food and have fridge access. We sat, ate and chatted around the large kitchen table. We enjoyed getting to know the friendly volunteer staff and meeting the other guests. We liked the artwork, the murals, the colourful curtains and the high ceilings, spacious bathroom. We appreciated being able to park our bicycles within the fenced and locked garden. We thought it was very good value for money.

My stay reminded me more of a stay with a large group of friends than of a stay in a hostel. The house and garden themselves have a very warm atmosphere to them. Immediately after I had arrived, I was shown around invited to come and spend the evening with the staff and some other guests, the next day the owner took the time to have nice chat with me. I felt very welcomed and homey while at the same time having interesting conversations. Leaving my luggage at the hostel after check-out was no problem at all. I regret so many reviews criticizing the cleanliness and the overall state of the house. The bedding was laundered, there was no smell whatsoever and bathroom and kitchen were neat. The house just tells a story about many people sharing one space.
At some point I would have been really glad about a kettle :D

The Staff Were Then Fantastic & So Very Welcoming. I Then Became Part Of The New Friends Gang. Making New Friends Almost Instantly From All Over The Globe. We All Then Have So Much In Common. Having Wonderful Night Time Chats Around The Table Outside In The Warm Outside. Drinking & Eating & Exchanging Stories & Having A Good Laugh & A Joke. Keeping In Contact Thereafter My Own Holiday. Generally Having An Fantastic Good Time. I Then Highly Recommend This Hostel. 10 Stars.

If you like to meet beautiful little people and get to know their stories, this place is for You! Being able to sit in the garden is something extravagantly cool, especially in hot summer days you can find the much wanted peace and quiet in this hidden oasis. And i bet that the crème de la crème of your stay will be some evening conversations with the owner, who'll be listening to your stories with curiosity and won't be afraid to share his stories along the way :)

Balázs, The host, was exceptionally friendly and helpful in giving great spots to go to and activities to try out. Was very friendly and was more like another guest than the "big scary" owner of the place. Was a great value for money and I look forward to staying again
Perhaps some more detailed cleaning like the dust on shelves would have made it the perfect place

Very good location close to the highway, great staff, nice garden (however i couldn't use it due to the rain)
The curtains in the bunk beds would do great job as the terrace's window is just next to the bed

The surrounding of the house is a garden which I liked.
There were people who stayed there luckily one night, who do not fit in this place. The people smoked different places. Maybe it good for groups to stay, but the house and the stuff overused, the bathroom dirty and overused, for solo people, stay here in case of emergency only.

Nice hostel with a very nice garden and amazing nice staff. Very cozy and home feeling. Not crowded and enough space. The garden has camping facilities, there is a huge kitchen, enough space to relax and even to wash and dry your clothes or just chill out. Really nice other travellers. Staff seem to be multilingual and good English is spoken anyway! Beds are okay, enough space also for luggage. Hostel is in a quiet area in Budapest, still by public transport you reach the center quick. Trainstation and metro station Budapest Kelenfold is in walking distance, or busstop Neszmelyi Utca (bus 153 or 154 from Kelenfold) is even closer. Shops and cafe is in walking distance. You can prepare your own food and coffee in the kitchen.
Maybe one more toiletfacility or showerfacility would be nice, so you do not have to wait in the morning.

It is my 3rd summer to come back to Budapest Garden Hostel. I came in 2019, then 2022 and now also in 2023. It is interesting for me to see people writing negative reviews, as I deeply disagree with them. I have met in the 3 years about 20 staff members (Balazs the owner, his girlfriend Layina, then Sophie, who is working for the House, I remember Laszlo from the past was working there too, and plenty of volunteers, usually always 2-4 at a time). I'm pretty sure I missed some of the people as I was not here every year. All of the people working were amazing. Helpful, caring and gave me the right informations anything I needed... No matter it was directions, restaurant recommendations or tips how to approach some tourist sights or next destinations. Staff also made sure, I have my best possible experience. More or less every time I found the same atmosphere, a group of people gathering in the evenings and having long long discussions, sometimes (depending on the group) - a little bit more party style, but mostly it was amazing, deep conversations, which I love. History, politics, life, traveling and questions like that discussed by many people's from many countries. Super cool. I would also say : Family style. Budapest is amazing, but many knows that already, if not, sorry for spoilering :-) It's really easy to get around, the Hostel is in a calm green area, few minutes walk to the newest Metro line, so about 5-10 minutes you have the possibility to reach anywhere. I will keep coming back.
