July 2025
I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm. The room as well as the shared bathroom w/ showers were always clean. I stayed four nights (Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu) in July and the dorm was never fully booked / the last night I had even been alone in the dorm. At no time at had the impression the place was overcrowded. There was space in the fridge as well as on the shelf to store my food and I could prepare and eat my meals with no hassle. There were three ovens (although one broke down while I stayed there) and two microwaves. Hot water for coffee/tea was available at all times. The location is naturally quiet and for hikers a wonderful area to just head out walking in any direction. It's safest though to stay on marked paths or even better on the well maintained Wicklow Way.
The acoustics in the dorm was extremely bad - especially when someone sitting/lying on the upper bunkbed was talking, it was extremely loud and it echoed... And the door to the room would fall shut with a loud bang which each new roommates would have to learn first to avoid it - although some didn't seem to care and so there was a lot of banging... Also the walls were rather thin and so you could hear the male guests partying in their dorm next-door. Plus the window looked out to the parking lot where people were having conversations (and were smoking?) until late. Mind to go grocery shopping before heading to the hostel which is quite remote!

I loved the location (be warned; the closest shop is 3 miles away. Be warned. There are vending machines but if u want food, it’s about 3 miles away.) The windows surrounding the property were beautiful, the scenery was gorgeous, and the vitality and attention to cleanliness of the staff were beyond reproach.
The only things: there were only 2 outlets in my 6 bunk dorm, and they were in a wall away from every bed. Not a huge deal for me, but if the room was full, it would be a bit rough. Also, was very hot at night with no way to remedy. Didn’t ask about it though, so maybe they could turn down the radiator by request.

Wonderful hostel for doing the Wicklow way hike. It has beautiful scenery around it and located right next to the WW path. The staff was very welcoming. There is a large kitchen available to prepare your own food, so make sure to bring the ingredients. There are also some vending machines for snacks and drinks.
Doesn't provide towels. During the stay there was a teenagers camp, which made the place very noisy after quiet hours but that wasn't really the hostel's fault.

Knockree Hostel is an amazing and friendly place!! The facilities were very clean, the room was warm, and the shared spaces very comfortable and welcoming!! The staff were very helpful and friendly too. It’s a very nice place to stay at, in the middle of the countryside, with a wonderful view on the sunrise above the mountains in the morning! The location is also perfect to join the Wicklow Way, only a 10 min walk. Thank you Knockree Hostel!!

Fantastic hostel nestled in the Wicklow mountains. I ended extending my stay twice and stay 10 nights! Everyone is extremely nice and friendly, the workaway people do a great job at looking after the place and the whole vibe is really chilled and friendly. Really one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at
Could do with individual lighting/sockets for each bed

As I was the only person staying here for three nights, as well as my sister for one night, we were both upgraded to en suite dormitories respectively. The hostel is clean and warm and the staff/volunteers were friendly and accommodating. Although slightly out of the way without your own transport, this hostel with fabulous views is a great base for anyone hiking in or exploring North Wicklow. Thanks again.

Very clean, beautiful location. The beds were very comfortable, and the staff excellent.
There are no lockers available, and the parking spaces are not marked so struggled a bit with the parking as a lot of people took up two spaces (we managed to park but takes a lot of maneuvering). It would be nice if the rooms had a mirror or more power outlets

Great location for Wicklow Way. Friendly staff. Lots of space. Comfortable beds. Fabulous views. Friendly fun cat and her kittens roaming for entertainment.
Only downside was limited food options for purchase. Came prepared with lightweight backpacking food but would have purchased chocolate biscuits and more if for sale! Vending machine available but I craved chocolate digestives and bars of Cadburys!!

Lovely, clean hostel in a beautiful location on the Wicklow Way. The breakfast was fine, the staff were friendly. It was great there was a drying room
My only complaint is that the room was sooo hot I couldn't sleep. No need for central heating when outdoor temps are 14 degrees at night.and 22 during the day

The location was calm and verdant and perfect as an introduction to the Irish ways. There were 2 pillows!, The duvet was wonderfully snuggly and I could open the window beaide me. Parking off the road was available and the staff were wonderfully helpful throughouty stay.
I kept hitting my head on the bottom of the top bunk, ouch!
