The hotel is in a prime location ,buses within a minute's walk but quiet with a garden just in front of the hotel. Hotel San Marco is spotlessly clean throughout due to very diligent, friendly staff. All the staff, from reception to breakfast room to housekeeping are efficient and willing to help. A special thank you to Huilan who went out of her way to help us in the breakfast room and the Roof Garden Restaurant. Reception staff were all friendly, answering our queries with a smile. The room was exceptional, big and airy, huge bathroom and a cute terrace where we could have a cup of tea in the mornings

That we had to leave after 7 nights and could not stay more.

Location is super. Citta Alta reacheable even on foot, but cable car is very close to the hotel. Room very clean, comfortable with automatic control features. Staff was so helpful and kind. We arrived early and wanted to leave only our bags in their storage but they politely checked us in earlier without even having to ask them. Breakfast was veryy good, delicious and lots of options. However small tip: Rooms advertised in booking could be the old ones. I stayed in the upgraded part of the hotel ( or it looked so by the different interior design in the halls and of course in the room)

Room was a bit small however not a big deal. It was very comfortable Temp could be controlled only centraly, it was a bit hot for us but maybe you can ask reception. We just opened the window ( a bit noisy but still)

Extremely clean and comfortable. Decor was fabulous in Reception. Restaurant beautifuly decorated with good service and superb roof top views, such a pity it is not being utilised to it's full potential for hotel guests. Hotel is in Great location. Staff very helpful. And beds just divine..room was spacious and secure. Staff engagement with me on messages before our trip was excellent and they were professional and courteous throughout our stay.

No bar service at the beautiful roof top. Restaurant only is just ridiculous for a 4 star hotel. Guests should have use of the rooftop area...even for relaxing during the day with a coffee or a cocktail in the evening without being forced to eat a 2 course meal. No outdoor space available for guests to sit out and relax anywhere at the hotel..very disappointed as advertised as having rooftop garden/ bar. That is the whole reason that we chose this hotel!!!Area assigned on ground floor is not suitable. Uninviting and has no atmosphere . Had room with balcony but it had no furniture so had to lug chairs from the room out whenever we wanted to use it.

Our room was big, with a comfortable bed and nice bedding. We had a little balcony and windows on two sides, so it was bright and cheerful, with quite classic furnishings rather than standard modern hotel room. The bathroom was big, with good toiletries provided. Staff on the whole were friendly and helpful. The hotel wasn't far from the station and near to the funicular to the old town, so it was ideal for sightseeing. The Rooftop Garden restaurant was excellent and the staff there could not have been nicer, clearly keen for us to have an excellent experience.

On arrival the receptionist spoke no English and had little patience for my attempts at Italian, so our initial impression was that it was just an unfriendly business hotel. Later interactions with other staff gave us a much better experience. The bathroom, whilst big, had a tiny shower and could probably have benefited from a little updating. Nothing to do with the hotel, but if you are walking from the train station with suitcases, it is slightly uphill and very cobbly!

I stayed there on two different occations in october. Both times the room was ready before official check-in time. Always a bonus! Good location in the centre, 10 minutes walk (uphill) to the old town. I liked the breakfast selection, with different kinds of bread. In Italy there is not always brown bread, and the quality is not always great, but this one was fresh and tasty. My room was facing the back, with a view to the old town, and reasonably quiet. Some low street noise, but not more than you can expect in a city centre.

Small thing: I am not a big fan of the long and a hard pillows. Maybe offer some alternatives, a bit softer with different shapes?

The room was clean, well sized and had coffee making facilities, TV and private bathroom. There was a safe and mini fridge provided with water. The hotel was really well located, close to the Citta Bassa highlights and near to the funicular station for the Citta Alta. We loved that there was a bus stop just across from the hotel, which provided cheap, wheelchair accessible transport to the very top of the Citta Alta. Buses run every 20 mins and the hotel is perfectly placed for this.

Nothing really to criticise. I would've liked to have stopped outside the hotel to drop my spouse and our bags off before returning hire car, but I wasn't sure if I could do this. I could've checked with hotel, which I didn't, but it might've been helpful to include that information with check in details.

We spent three nights here in the middle of a 2 week trip around Europe. We came to this hotel because we saw it on a previous trip and liked the location, which is very good as it is very handy for the funicular up to the old town. The hotel is well established and this does show. Our rooms were a "Superior double" and a "deluxe double" but in fairness I don't think they were either of these things. That is not to say that they weren't comfortable or clean, as they were. They were great value for money, considering the location, but to say they are a little dated is a bit of an understatement. I would go again but would go for a better room. There was quite a lot of road noise at night, but it is in the city centre so you have to expect this. The bed was very comfy and the the bedding was good, the bathroom was spacious and clean, but again a bit dated. It all worked though. The highlight is the rooftop restaurant, which has a truly stunning view of the old city, together with superb food and wine. We would surely go again.

The rooms we had were dated but still good value and very comfortable. Nothing to dislike. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. We liked it!

4 night stay to visit Bergamo and Milan day trip. The hotel is outstanding. Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, a very wide range of foods, all to the highest standard and constantly replenished, and tables cleared. The breakfast room on the first floor is a large and pleasant space with nice views. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was spacious with a fridge. The window could be opened. Our room on the side of the 4th floor had a view of the Citta Alta, which was incredible. We eat twice in the Roof Garden Restaurant which offered great food, service and views. Although reasonably expensive, the quality and experience justified it. The location of the hotel is perfect, 5 minutes from the funicular and 5 minutes from the centre of the Citta Bassa. The bus from the airport stops very close to the hotel 3.70 euros for the 3-zone ticket that is required.

Location excellent- 10/15 min walk down to the train station and also 10 min walk to the railway to the Alta / higher level. Lots of bars and restaurants near by. Breakfast was excellent- busy from 9am onwards but breakfast staff very pleasant and helpful. Reception staff very helpful - check in smooth. My single room clean with a larger than single bed. Quiet. This hotel rooms are old style Italian interior.

Bar is souless and expensive - white plastic chairs - needs updating along with reception area. Carpets stained both in rooms and reception area. Would take very little to update and make more welcoming. Outside the same.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, always ready to help with a smile. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, with everything I needed for a relaxing visit. The location was perfect – close to local attractions, yet peaceful and quiet at night. I especially enjoyed the delicious breakfast and the overall warm atmosphere of the place. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for comfort, great service, and an unforgettable experience!
